Hello all,
Just wondering what people think of vampires, and what they know of them. Do you think they exist? They don't exist? They merely exist to drink blood? They have cool hooky powers?
Put up any opinions or knowledge on the topic of vampires.

I don't think they exist in the modern days (99% sure), but I could be wrong.

I would presume that if they didn infact exist in previous times, then perhaps they would still live one in current times, I have to say though, that I dont believe they exist, as in the Bram Strocker kind anyway.

I hate them personally. Most that I've met are girls and wear barily anything at all and they drink as much blood as they can. One time I came across one and she wanted to suck my blood and do some other stuff with me and I said no way. But that's not the reason I hate them. The reason I hate them is because the guys vampires are snooty and obnoxious. They think they are the top race and everyone else is below them.

There are two very interesting types, however. Psychic vamps, or people who steal energy or get a high from certain emotions, can be delt with pretty easily by shielding. If you are one of these or happen to be a friend of one, there are ways you can raise energy (safely) during a ritual without cutting yourself, towards the benefit of you or your friend. Sharing blood is also a transfer of more personal energy. It goes through every single part of your body, come on! Whenever your emotions change, yawn, cough, stand up, etc, your blood is influenced by it... Everything you eat, right down to your vitamins, is all in your blood. It circulates through all of the energy centers of your body and always goes right back to the middle of your torso. Other than that, sharing blood with someone is somewhat binding. You feel closer to that person. And you don't even have to risk cutting yourself or scarring. How? Just bite your lip. It does make for a sexy kiss, and the "mark" lasts about as long as a hickey, only it's less obvious as far as how you got it. Using blood in ritual is a very simple, easy way to make a fast and binding connection or a worthy, but not too harsh of a personal sacrifice. Blood is a better energy conduit than water. But people, don't start bathing in it. They didn't look too kindly on the Bathorys in their time.

i think vampires are real but not how they are depicted in movies. I've read about how it's a virus. You've heard about when a mother wanted to save her baby so much that she could lift a car. I think a vampire is caused by that chemical that is activates superstrength and so on . The only thing different about a vampire to a human is that this thing is on all the time. IT's basically all to do with parasites. The book that i originally got this from a book called peeps by scott westerfeld.

In my opinion, I think vampires are real. I sort of live with one. sweatdrop Well I believe that there are two types. The type that don't feed off your blood for energy, but off your mind, your thoughts, and those are the ones that usually scare me. I also think there are those who get the sudden craving for blood. You may feel free to correct me and if you find that you must please do so. What I don't believe in are the vampires we all want to be real. The ones with superstrength, the ones that can fly, the ones that can read your every thought. I think vampire are just normal humans only that they sometimes find themselves with a sudden craving for something out of the ordinary.

Satur11022 Shanna66 i think they still exist. why wouldnt they? i think they exist in an Anne Rice kind of way. not saying that just cause im a fan of hers, but ive always believed they still exist. same for me i have always beleived them to live in the manner they do in anne rice books but overall i have always beleived they exist Anne Rice vampires are as far from vampire lore as it gets. Historical vampires are plump and ruddy, seldom venturing far from their grave site. They lack signifigant intelligence and only prey on the weak and ill. While they possess basic locomotive capabilities and some speach, they lack the cognitive capacity to make any but the simplest of gestures, and operating anything more complex than a hammer or a doornob would be a task. Their regular need to feed, coupled with an unwillingness to stray far from a grave site would create a clear pattern of victims, and forensic evidence would have exposed them long ago. Vampires are woefully innefective hunters, and can only last any period of time in desolate, hard to reach areas. If you want to talk lifestylers, sure, people who act like vampires exist. Hell, some even drink blood and wear sunglasses at night. Of course, this doesn't make them vampires; it makes them actors. As for 'psy vamps,' well, let me say that the idea of a psychic vampire is about as big a load of bull as you're liable to run across. A psychic vampire is little more than a sod with a shitty personality who drains the life from people around them. It's not mystical; it's just someone being annoying, or boring enough to drain the fun from a room. Back in the day we called them 'losers.' At the very best, a psychic vampire may be an empath...at best.

I hear that guy has a corner on the market, when it comes to dealing with socialite vamps. lol

I can't say whether vampires exist or not, but I do have an interest in vampire lore and fiction. I collect books of both kinds, though my collection is extremely small at the moment.
There are plenty of theories about vampires. There are the animalistic kind that Eric Wolfborn mentioned, which are what appear in most classic lore and legends... and then there are your "Anne Rice" vampires, which are popular in modern fiction and movies, but a far cry from the legends they were born from. Then you have humans who thirst for blood (which doesn't mean that the person is crazy; there is a medical condition that explains this), humans who believe blood has special properties and choose to drink it; and then you have what are called psychic vampires that feed off of the energies of others. Even psychic vampires can be broken up into the groups of those from modern stories and those from legend, who were often nothing more than whisps of smoke who would settle on the chest of a victim as they slept and drain their energy (much like a succubus/incubus).
LilaMalvae brought up a lot of good points about blood. Many beliefs about the mystical properties of blood are what prompt ordinary humans to drink it. For some people, sharing blood is seen as a the closest bond you can share with a person. Dating back centuries, blood has been associated with life and energy. And why wouldn't it be? You lose your blood, you lose your life. Since it's such a vital part of us pysically, it makes sense that there are so many beliefs about its spiritual power. What you believe about it personally is all up to you.
So. While I don't know if vampires do, or ever did exist, I have to say that nothing will ever make me give up my modern vampire stories xd . Inaccurate according to legend? Yes. Do I love them anyway? Yes, yes I do.
What I find to be one of the most interesting points in the favor of the existance of vampires is that legends about them were scattered far and wide, all over the world, hundreds of years ago. From places such as islands in the Atlantic to China, there are scattered stories about beings that rise from the dead and drink the blood/life force of the living.
