I had a discussion with a friend earlier about how he sees in his church alot of people leaving to join other faiths and he asked me if that in judaism alot of people leave to go join something else. Ive never seen many people (maybe 1 at the most) leave, but he is just a teenager and probably going through that "religion is bad" phase. So basically Im wondering if anyone has noticed people leaving the jewish faith, if more people leave other faiths then judaism, and if more people join judaism then people from judaism join other religions.

"religion is bad" phase.

describe this said phase, because that's what everyone thinks i'm going through, but i'm not. i mean if people knew everythign has been going on in my head for the past eight years they wouldn't be shocked at all that i'm just now saying what i've been thinking since i was fiveish, sooo yea.

i just wanna know when these people are going to finally stop treating me like a child.

Well I just noticed that around 14 to in some cases their 20's that alot of people who once believed their religion suddenly find religion bad (you can see tons of proof in the GD and ED forums) but then later on come back to it.

hmmm....Well, I also know somebody going through the "religion is stupid" phase where he hates everything to do with religon.

In general, though, I don't see a lot of people leaving the Jewish faith, and I don't see a lot of people converting to Judaism, either.

However, these are all generalizations, so they might not all be true 3nodding

well, it may not be alot. But something Im wondering is who gets more and who loses more through conversions? In my temple we get several conversions every year but my friend says he doesnt see many coming to his church for conversions.

I really wish someone would do a study xp

Oh I heard about those people.
They thought they where old islamic peoples at first since they didnt circumcise at birth but like more at the time muslims do, but then they tested their DNA and they had like the same as some people from Israel or something.
DNA confuses me, but it proved they came from a jewish background xd

The funniest thing...

I know these two Jewish sisters. They were brought up in a non-religious home. Both went to a yeshiva.

One sister completely when religious, and she's VERY serious about it.

The other sister completely lost faith and her belief in God.

Life is funny.

It is scary, because it shows how people can go off in two completely different directions.

You know something also ironic? They're my half-sisters, and we're all very close. I go to the same yeshiva that they go/went to, and I was also not brought up in a religious way. But I'm the one who's right in the middle, the one who's not religious and acts like an average goy on the street, but is secretly trying to improve as much as possible.

Someone should write a book about us. Honestly!

This is not my "Reform is bad" rant.

Okay so it's part of it.

I've just noticed a far larger number of Reform Jews that lose the faith. I can't prove it with numbers or anything, but, while Orthodox kids do have that 'religion is bad' episode, the family and community structure I'm always seeing in Orthodoxy has a way of addressing the child's concerns and helping them through faith crises.

As I see it in action, Reformism does not. Sure, it's there if you ask for it, but I just don't see anything Proactive in the Reform movement in regards to the community.

Ironically, as someone mentioned, I've seen a lot of gentile converts in the recent few years.
