Chuakari lay curled up beneath a tree near the water source of the area, sleeping peacefully as the sun starts to rise on the other side of the tree. After learning to count well and playing games with Uri, the small pink cheetah had become fond the the land- and still has hopes of meeting some of the other cheetahs that Uri mentioned to her.

Wriggling around in her sleep, Kari murmurs into her paws.

"Seven, nine, ten.." she mumbles through a paw, skipping over the number eight and wrinkling her nose. Even in her sleep she seems to know that she's messed up. She lifts a paw over her nose, making incomprehsible sounds...

"Eight," she breathes finally, opening her violet eyes a crack. She lifts up her head to see if anyone happens to be around, yawning loudly after failing her attempts at holding it in.

User ImagePadding through the Duma'bara territory, a small lioness had begun to grow somewhat tired. It was true that she had successfully hunted with the aid of another recently and her stomach was more filled than usual, but she was still young and would tire easily. Releasing a short yawn, she slowed her speed and began to search for a place to relax. As she paused, she noticed something oddly colored nearby. Coming to a complete hault and remaining perfectly still, she looked the creature over. Shiri had heard of cheetahs before, but she was not positive what lay before her was one! Where were her spots?

Luckily for the small lioness, the cheetah, or whatever the creature may have been, was asleep. Moving her paws slowly, Shiri hoped she could walk by without harming her. In the past, this method had never truly worked, but it was always worth a shot. As she neared the cheetah, she could hear it mumbling something and her heart began to race. Was this creature awake? She thought quietly to herself. Pausing again, she waited until she was certain. Her golden colored fur blended her slightly with the grass below them.

The small pink cheetah falls silent when she could almost be certain she can see a patch of grass with bright green eyes in the middle of it. Two things cross her mind immediately- how do you make friends with grass that has eyes, and people would find it funny if she said she'd seen such grass. Chuakari likes friends, and people like to laugh- so either way it could be a good thing.

Slowly, she gets to her feet and stretches. Why not go investigate?

"Hellooo?" she coos, stepping towards to the lioness curiously. Once she takes a couple steps, she realizes that she's not looking at grass but some creature that's kind of shaped like that blue and white girl she'd met before.

So it's not grass with eyes.

User ImageWhen Shiri noticed the strange pink feline approaching her, she quickly lowered her ears with frustration. It was just her luck to bump into someone else so soon. The past few days of her meandering had led her to quite a few strangers. New companions many would have been pleased with, but Shiri understood it as more she would need to worry and dwell upon. Without friends, one would not worry about the friends they had.

When the cheetah came near, Shiri lifted her form and offered a half hearted smile. This animal, whether or not it was truly a cheetah, was young and so Shiri was not so intimidated by her size. Looking her over, Shiri silently decides the strange, pink-colored animal truly was a cheetah. Dispite it's strange colors, it had the same build and personality of many cheetahs she had seen before. With only a slight curiosity, she responded quietly, "Hello.."

Chuakari manages to spot the frustrated look on the little lioness's face, and stops moving towards her, lowering her own ears and cowering back a bit. The not-grass-with-eyes doesn't look happy, and this cheetah would not want to make her less happy if that's what happens when you try to talk to it.

Fortunately, not-grass-with-eyes smiles, however hearted, and greets her in return. This cheers up Chuakari considerably, and she resumes a more happy expression. But just to be safe, she doesn't get any closer to the lioness.

"Who're you?" she asks, tilting her head. Then, trying to make her more comfortable and make her questioning more personal, "You're really pretty, like grass!"

Hey, compliments had worked before, and she doesn't think grass is a bad thing to be compared to. Though it wouldn't work for her own fur, she knows.

User ImageWhen Chuakari paused in the grass and only stared, Shiri could not help but release a short sigh. It was nice to see that the pink colored feline was not going to advance any farther, but a strange expression showed that she was either worried or bothered by the look Shiri had been giving her. With flattened ears, Shiri rolled her eyes and looked about them for an excuse to up and leave. Chuakari was not bothersome in the least, but Shiri was not one for company, let alone the company of someone so curious.

Shiri had been glancing off in the distance when she suddenly heard the question. "Me?" She asked somewhat absentmindedly, though the question was not one to be seriously answered. With a faint laugh, she responded, cheeks a pale pink at the compliment, "My name is Shiri.. I appreciate your comment..." Without a name to conclude her sentence, she felt it might be right to ask for the others name, "And what may I call you?"

Chuakari was discouraged when she saw the lioness looking off in the distance, it wasn't hard to tell that she was eager to be off instead of talking to her. She watched Shiri anxiously, hoping that she would give an answer.

"Shiri's a pretty name," she commented with a small smile, "I'm Chuakari, but if you want you can call me Kari. It's easier to say." She paused, and frowned, "Not that I think you'd have trouble saying it! I just mean it's... easier."

User Image Shiri felt a strange mixture of both guilt for upsetting the cheetah, as well as frustration with her own guilt. Though she knew how she acted was not as polite as she should, she still did not feel it was up to her to treat this stranger like good company. Shiri did not request her presense.

Crossing her paws before her, she became slightly more comfortable where she was. It did not seem as if the cheetah would stop talking despite her obvious discomfort. "Kari is easier to say..." Shiri's voice was quiet in her response. She was clearly thinking of other things as she spoke. "Don't worry about it." She said finally, eyes looking onto the young pink cheetah as she stuttered over an explanation. "I didn't think you meant any harm from it.." Waving her tail, the female offered a faint smile. What was it about Shiri that kept her wanting to be alone?

Chuakari watched the lioness intently, waiting for some reaction. She frowned when Shiri's expression didn't change much and then she spoke in a quite voice. Perhaps she was being too.. enthusiastic? The small cheetah inhaled deeply and tried to plan what she would say, and how to say it.

Must be quieter, calmer..

"You don't want to talk to me, do you?" she asked sadly, trying to keep a straight face. She did manage to keep her tone calm and her voice quiet, but hiding her expression failed.

User Image It was only when Chuakari questioned Shiri that a sudden sadness hit. How could the female, despite how antisocial she may have become over the years, answer that question without hurting the young femme before her? Sighing softly, Shiri got onto her feet and looked off towards the distance. "It's.. not you." She began quietly, though how convincing her words sounded was not quiet certain. In reality, her words were sincere. The only problem between the two of them was Shiri's consistant distance from those around her.

Looking back towards Chuakari, Shiri spoke again, her voice still soft. By now the lioness' eyes had become somewhat glazed with tears, though her pride would not let them fall. "..come on.. lets just go on a walk.." What could be achieved by this, Shiri could not know, but it was very possible that a lighter conversation might ease her awful mood. Chuakari was no friend of Shiri's, but she was also not an enemy to be treated so inhumanely.

It was not Chuakari that left Shiri alone as a cub. It was not Chuakari who left Shiri weak and defenseless on her own...

Though Kari did not know the reasons behind the lioness' emotional distance, she still took it somewhat personally. She'd always found people so friendly, she'd always succeeded at at least getting others to be more cheerful. She didn't have much of an understanding of how much of an effect certain events can have on lives, she'd not had much personal experience in it.

However, when Shiri invited her for a walk, her mood brightened a bit. She couldn't be doing so badly if Shiri wanted to go for a walk. Without hesitation, Kari nodded and bounded forward a bit.

"Ok," she murmured in a quiet but enthusiastic voice.

(( Sorry it's so awful, but I have to go and didn't want to leave it unreplied whee ))

User Image Shiri was glad to hear the young cheetah's voice lift its tone slightly. At least her suggestion had showed she was trying to be more social. Walking also gave the lioness a chance to think without having to watch the cheetah's expression become somewhat upset.

Smiling faintly, the lioness tried to hide her watery eyes. Though she looked in Chuakari's direction, she was almost certain her eyes had not watered so dramatically then. Still faking a smile, the lioness continued on.

As the two females walked alongside one another, with Shiri somewhat leading them, the lioness attempted conversation. "So...?" As Shiri spoke, she continued to look forward watching the surroundings. "..What kinds of things do you enjoy doing?"

Kari eagerly started to walk, anything was better than nothing. It was only when Shiri attempted to smile at her that she noticed her watery eyes, and it startled the young cheetah. She hestiated on commenting on it, leaving her mouth hanging open long enough for Shiri to instead question her.

"I- I like-" she hesitated, she didn't want to answer wrong, "What do you like? Are you ok?" Kari finally got out her question, looking back at Shiri's eyes curiously.

User Image Shiri had noticed the strange expression by the young cheetah and suddenly felt foolish for becoming watery eyed. How could she explain to such innocence that her life had become something she had become to dread? Looking forward to keep Chuakari from becoming more suspicious, the female tried to change the subject as quickly as possible. "I enjoy.." and though the lioness was attempting to make up something on the spot, the sudden expression of care from the other built a temporary trust between the two. "..I enjoy watching the pridelands.. I feel a great connection to the lions within... but it's hard to explain. I just feel at home when I watch them with one another.." Laughing lightly, the lioness' cheeks could not help but become a pale shade of pink. Never in her life had she admitted that to anyone, but now she was explaining it to a complete stranger.

Trying to put the spotlight of Chuakari to take a bit of pressure off of herself, the lioness directed the same question once again, "..but what do you enjoy doing?" Though her mood was lifting lightly, the lioness could not help a single tear from sliding down her cheek. Had she explained herself to answer Chuakari's question or to explain her fondness of the pridelands to herself..?

Based on Shiri's expression and words, Kari could guess that she was trying to avoid the subject. Though other young creatures might have pressed on, this cheetah was much more concerned with just keeping the other happy than fixing her own curiosity so she just let the subject change.

"We're near the Pridelands, right?" she asked curiously, willing to sound a bit ignorant if it would help Shiri find something to talk about. If she felt so connected to it, perhaps she wouldn't mind talking more about it. When she spotted the single tear, though, Kari doubted her logic and bit her lip.

Subject change again. Answer the question.

"I like to play games," she said quickly, even if Shiri didn't like games it was something else to talk about. The cheetah's gaze went downward almost immediately after she said it, she needed to calm down a little bit.
