The Ca'xetian Empire (Ca'xeti)

Dacian and Ahneta originate in this land

The Ca'xetian empire is a land with somewhat strict roles. You are defined by your class - if born a peasant, unless you show magical talent, you will remain a peasant, for example. Changes are allowed within the same, class, however...a woodworker could become a blacksmith, and so forth.

The form of government is monarchy, through the eldest child; the royal line is carried with the female, although a male is allowed to rule should there be no women.

The reason for this is simple: they can always be certain that the royal line is being continued. With the male to carry the line, there is the possibility that the wife will carry anothers child...but if the woman is the one to carry the line, then no matter what, the line will always be continued.

Land

Ca'xetia is a hilly land that stretches to the southeast, although it has some territories that verge up towards the northern climes. Roughly a third of the land is merely desert - and half of that isn't even natural desert, but rather, a wasteland from the result of magical and technological warfare.

The rest of the empire alternates between praries, some wooded areas, and a several islands of differing climates. The further west one goes, the more desert you find, and the rockier it becomes.

The United Republic of Anahan

Hadrian originates in this land

In contrast to the Empire, Anahan has a much looser class structure. However, it is still not particularly fluid - one can't be born a peasant and expect to become a noble. However, if one demonstrates enough talent, skill or intelligence, then it is possible to raise in class.

The form of government is a council of nobles. Whenever a noble chooses to retire their position (or either dies or is removed by three quarters vote), an aspiring noble must have a sponsor on the council, and the sponsor will announce their intentions to the council - when it comes to a vote, the council will then decide who to bring in.

Theoretically, this should bring in new ideas and blood: however, in the recent years leading up to the world shift, it had been noted that most of the nobles replacing the elderly, were the children of those already on the council...

Land

Anahan is the republic that controls the northwestern territories. The territories further southeast tend to be warmer climes, but the further north you get, the colder. As with Ca'xetia, there is a long stretch of wasteland along the border.

The most striking difference in these territories from Ca'xetia, is that it's much flatter. Ca'xetia is a land of hills and mountains - here, the mountains are only found in the wasteland, and to the far north; some area's are a bit hillier then others, but for the most part, it is remarkably flat.

Other then that, there are both wooded areas and plains - although nothing quite like the Empires praries.

Religion

Both the Empire and the Republic of Anahan have official state religions. There are other religions that exist of course, but they tend to be tolerated more then accepted, by the governing bodies.

The Empire

They believe that originally, there was one being; this being split itself into thousands of pieces, and those pieces became everything that exists now; people, the world, the universe, spirits - everything.

Spirits are beings that exist in the twilight, the realm between life and death. Their job is to judge the humans that die, and decide upon their next life. This is actually the reason why the Empire follows such a strict caste - they believe that they have been put into their class by the Spirits, and as of such need to live out their lives in it.

The Republic

Unlike the empire, the republic believes that there are five Gods (two female, two male, and one that is neither - it simply Is), and numerous spirits that perform at their bidding. They believe that when you die, there are four possible results...

If you have pleased the Gods in life, then you will join them in the Glade, a place of pleasure and joy. If, on the otherhand, you have displeased them, you will enter the Abyss, a realm of suffering. If you fail to either please or anger then, you will either become a spirit to perform their bidding, or be cast into another life.

Culture

The Empire

The first thing someone is likely to note about the Ca'xetian empire, is the strange difference between their traditions and behavior. They are strict about the caste, their status in society - but ones own behavior, so long as you aren't acting badly in front of someone of a higher status, is unrestricted.

This has to led to some wild scandals among the nobles, as well them receiving a reputation for being 'loose'. Scandals themselves seem to matter little to the nobility - they're gossiped about for a little bit of time, but quickly fade as other, more current matters occur.

Though in truth, the reason for this lies in the same root as their traditions: religion. Their religion teaches them that they were placed in their rank specifically...and as of such, they feel they deserve to be allowed what they want to do, if they are of a higher caste.

The Republic of Anahan

Anahan is incredibly different from Ca'xeti; some historians even speculated that this is part of the reason why the two nations went to war, originally. The people of Anahan are less restricted in their roles and status - and one would assume from that, that they were more accepting in general.

But instead, it is an even harsher land towards anyone who steps out of the norm. While Ca'xetians could be titled as promiscusous, and friendly, most of the people of Anahan are stiff, coldly formal, and would never do anything outside the boundaries of propriety. And the reason for this is simple: do something scandalous, and you would essentially become a pariah.

The reason for this also lies rooted in religion...the people of Anahan are more concerned about pleasing the Gods then pleasing themselves, for the most part, and as of such they try to act in a 'polite' manner. And those that don't, well...they tend to keep it to themselves. All in all, it is a far more secretive society then that of Ca'xeti.
