This was my ICS thing, I changed it when I found this out...

(I get all rumors checked out by Jayski.com before I post them)

NASCAR will be meeting with the owner and CEO of Mosport International Raceway to discuss the track and it's possible future. This rumor was confirmed on March 24th, 2005 and slipped through the cracks on TSN.ca. Mosport's road circuit is a 12 turn, 2.5 mile track (can you say a 250 mile race? 100 laps sounds about right...) that features both fast and slow corners, several tight apexes, smooth, slightly hilly racing and a straightaway longer than the start and finish straight. NASCAR deemed it the more logical choice of a circuit over both Montreal's Circuit du Gilles Villeneuve and Toronto's Molson Indy street courses.

Toronto's course = hardly any passing, more wrecks than passes. Drivers have died at Indy Toronto because of bad passing.

Montreal's course = hard on engine packages, see F1 for more details.

Mosport's course = fun for the whole family, which is what NASCAR is all about!

More news about this will be entered as soon as I hear about it. RaceLine Radio has already done an expose about the rumor of NASCAR in Canada with a 30 minute interview with Kevin Harvick and Ron Fellows. Let's just say Mosport is very happy to say it's a Corvette loving track, and Ron Fellows is exceptionally talented there. Turns 1 and 10 will remind you all of being similar to Watkin's Glen, I assure you they will not if you see NASCAR there. The hills on Watkin's Glen make turn 1 an issue, turn 2 at Mosport is NOT as issue turn. Turns 5a, 5b, and 5c are the issue turns.

More NASCAR rumors? How about this slick one.

TODAY as I post this, Paul Tracy has announced the possibility that when his contract with Forsythe Racing runs out at the end of the year, he will consider a full-time move to NASCAR. The catalyst of this is if Canada gets a track next year. Here is TSN.ca's take on an tiny article in the Toronto Sun.

TSN Article
According to a report in the Toronto Sun, this year's edition of the Toronto Molson Indy could very well be Paul Tracy's swan song in the Champ Car World Series.

The 36 year-old veteran driver, whose contract with Forsythe Racing is expiring at the end of the 2005 season, is apparently interested in joining NASCAR if it comes to Canada in 2006.

"My eyes are wide open to the possibilities," Tracy said in Toronto Wednesday. "I'm looking at all the options and seeing what develops.

"There are a lot of things happening in Canada right now with NASCAR."

When Paul Tracy is "open" to possibilities, he means it! He never lies to Toronto. It's true.

I sent an email asking Mosport how things were going, and if talks were going for the half-mile as well (my curiosity).

The response was cookie-cutter PR, thanking me for my support and it will indeed be the road course that they will be discussing. However, they are long from any agreement. We'll hear about this again in the coming months maybe.
