Read that this morning, had something to do with the dual shock controller but it didn't go into much detail. Pretty funny, though. And here I thought that the only corporation anyone sued anymore was McDonalds.

tisk tisk tisk... First they lose money because the PSP is crap and the gamers know it, now they get sued because of the dual shock controllers. The only thing I don't like about this is that I like the PS2 because that's where Square Enix does most of its work, but I HATE X-box. Especially since I can name all of their good games: Halo and Halo 2. Any other game that's worth much on the X-box was released on at least one other system as well (Sonic Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, etc.). Too bad Microsoft couldn't suffer like this. I hate both Microsoft and Sony as far as games go because they just don't care. They're in it for the money, and Sony is now learning that if you enter a business without the intention of doing your job, then you won't earn the money that you want (like Nintendo is with those DS sales).

Well, the thing is, the only software that has been blocked is that of which requires dual-shock controllers. Now, if you already own a PS2, you have no worries about Final Fantasy coming to an end, or any good series made by Square. Unless it needs dual-shock, it probably won't get stopped, and I doubt Final Fantasy needs D-S. Does it? I dunno. sweatdrop Oh, and also, if Sony's financial deficit really widens, then they may sell the Final Fantasy franchise back to nintendo. Who knows? It's possible.

Eh, sorry, but hte PSP is good and Sony isn't reallyt losing money on it. Sorry to burst your bubble. But seriously here, Sony is going to slowly fall because of this. They are pretty much being forced to sotp selling PS1's and PS2's alltogether. But what took Immersion Corp so long? The Dual Shock controllers have been out for so long.

OK, first, I know PSP has done very well in some places. Of course, here in the US, it's done terrible. The only places that sold out were the places that took preorders. Anywhere else, hell here in St. Louis, Missouri, I believe the dude in the article (seen on the PSP thread)that they were easier to find than Gamecubes! (not that we hate gamecube or anything, we just know they're easy to find) If you went to a store like Gamespot, maybe they were out. But, if you went to somewhere like Best Buy, Walmart, or Circuit City, they had stacks of them. And this is coming from a person who lives in a Sony-fanboy filled country. Second, Immersion may have filed a lawsuit against Sony now instead of back then because they may have wanted to make Sony get a lot of money off of the controllers, so they would reap a good amount of that money. If they had simply filed against Sony a long time ago, when they came out, they would have got a fraction of what they are getting now ($90.6 Million), because Sony hadn't made any money off of them. They realise that the PS3 is coming out very soon, along with the next-gen consoles, and that now is the perfect time to get their rewards after Sony infringed the patent.

I heard on the radio yesterday as well that X-box was sued for the same thing by Immersion, but they were only charged about $26 million instead. One thing I heard that Sony may do is decide to work with Immersion so that they can get their money back and still be able to use Dual Shock, but if this becomes the case then Microsoft will also be a part of the deal, and they'll get over half of their money back. In the meantime, Nintendo is having nothing to do with all these American companies filing lawsuits against each other and making agreements for money.

Also, if you think the PSP is doing well, you haven't seen our PSP thread, since it says that the PSP sales were doing horribly and the PSP itself isn't as good as what they promised. Here are a couple of polls that were answered by gamers: Do you own a DS or PSP? and Are PSPs sold out where you live?. These show that the DS is a lot more popular than the DS, and the PSP were hardly sold out anywhere compared to where they weren't sold out.

Not exactly. It was Sony who had been trying to extend the time so they might get charged less money. Microsoft gave them the money in the beginning, but then they bought a lot of Immersion stocks so it only cost $26 million for them and they got about half of it back (I think...)

As much as it serves them right in so many ways, I don't like this.
I do pride myself in being a Nintendo fan, but I like my PS2. Okay, I don't like the PS2, I like the games for it. If Sony gets the boot, we lose the games. I don't know about everybody, but I'd rather not lose things like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Devil May cry, Mega Man, and many more. It's possible they would make them for other systems, but still, they may not. And face it, if it happens to the U.S., it happens to Canada, so forget any solice in that idea.

Oh, and one other thing. Why are they suing over the Dualshock? If it was stated, I missed it.

stythe Oh, and one other thing. Why are they suing over the Dualshock? If it was stated, I missed it. The rumble technology of the Dualshock 2 is the same that Immersion Corp. patented. Immersion sued Microsoft for using the technology as well, but they dealt with the lawsuit earlier. As far as I'm concerned, Sony created its own monster by ignoring the lawsuit and letting it build up to this magnitude.

Now I understand why they are sueing over the controller.
EDIT: I mean I do understand it, but it just didn't make sense on why they were sueing Sony Playstation....

Its guaranteed that they would starrt making those games for the GCN instead though. Square was originally with Nintendo, so if Sony dies then Square would come back. Since Capcom actually works partially on GCN and partially on PS2, then they would just go over to GCN for the entire time if Sony dies. However, they would stay away from X-box because X-box is more like a stereo/DVD player that can play Halo 2 then an actual Video game console.
