Background: Was born and raised in Stockholm in a middleclass family. His mother Lisa Björnsson work as a nurse and his father Karl Björnsson work as a car salesman. He has three siblings, one older sister Ylva, and two younger brothers Robert and Marcus. He had a happy and ordinary upbringing. He often went out camping out in the forests north and south of Stockholm with his friends during the weekends. He studied social science in High school but he was never really interested in it. For a time he felt a bit lost about what he wanted to do with his life. When he was 19 he got drafted into the army just like most young Swedish males. He served his term of service on a military base north of Stockholm; he served in a mechanized company. He quickly developed a taste for military life and was able to apply for a place in the Swedish UN expeditionary force in Liberia. He served for 8 months in 2004; just like last time the regiment he served in was a mechanized one. There had been two civil wars in Liberia and the last one had only ended a year ago. Together with an Irish regiment their mission was to restore order and to disarm former soldiers/rebels their weapons. What happened there is something Ulf does not like to talk about. The horrible sights that met him in Liberia cause him to almost lose faith in humanity. He started to have horrible nightmares.
After his service he got sent home and tried to build up his life again. He got himself a girlfriend, Sofie Lindgren and got himself a job as a Security guard. He would have joined the police force, but they wanted someone that was older. He was told to wait maybe 2 years before applying again. But his civilian life felt dull and pointless, he missed the order and the purpose that the military gave him. He only got to patrol a dullsville of a suburb during his nightshift at work and the only thing his girlfriend didn't seem very supportive of his military career dreams. After 4 months he applied to the Swedish Officer Academy in hope that he will one day become an officer. He got rejected because of the mental trauma his past experiences had caused him. Now he either have to find another way of making a career that will satisfy him or get better so he can become an officer.
Personality: Ulf is a fairly quiet type, usually he tries to think everything through before he says anything and overall he?s more of a listener then a talker. He dislikes loud people and those who take conversation room from others; he wants everyone to have their say. He also dislikes people that have a very avid body language; it feels alien to him and scares him a little. He is used to people that has a very calm body language that?s common in his homeland and is not sure how to react to the body language of more lively cultures.
Compromises are preferred in conflicts if he can find that it?s possible, since that gives satisfaction to the largest amount of people and it also minimizes the chances of a prolonged conflict. Another reason he doesn't mind having a strong leader over him and respects authority as long as he can see that the leader knows what he or she is doing. For Ulf the world is a sea of confusing and destructive chaos with only a few islands of order; you either have to get on an already existing island or create one of your own. The army became his island. He often has terrible dreams about what happened in Liberia which constantly reminds him how horrible the chaos can be.
He's a team player but he doesn't actually NEED the company, he just likes it. The leader role is usually avoided by Ulf if it's possible, but he will take the lead if no one else will since a group without a leader is like a body without a head.
He always stands up for those he perceives as weak and underdog. He has a hard time saying no to cute things like small children or animals since he feels that its his duty to protect them from the dangers of the world. On the inside he's actually pretty soft, or at least towards small, cute and cuddly things.
Body language: Pretty stiff and military like. He don't move around his arms allot and he has a very calm, but authoritative body language. Those people that know what to look for can easily see him that he has been in the military, while others might interpret his body language as him being dull and boring.
Skills: Speaks English pretty much fluently with a hint of Swedish accent, has very limited understanding of German and Spanish, knows how to handle most of the standard firearms in the Swedish army, has basic mechanical knowledge about cars and the Strf 9040 IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle)

Possible reasons for Ulf being on the island* He got hired as a securityguard by Dr. Moreau. Moreau wanted to test if he could produce a loyal but more effective guard with the animal serum. Not knowing what will happen to him, Ulf accepts; thinking that he might be able to forget what happened in Liberia. This new job might be more interesting then his current job plus its well paid. They both knew they wouldn't hear from each other for a while since apparently the island had very limited ways of communicating with the outside world because of its remote location. Despite the girlfriend's pleads Ulf decided to go.
* Ulf needs to face his demons from Liberia if he will ever have a chance to become an officer. Luckily he managed to find an ad about a special island that specialises in treatment of mental trauma. Unfortunely his girlfriend didn't like this at all and broke up with him just before he went to the island.
* Ulf felt desperate to help humanity after he came home, so desperate that he was prepared to sacrifice everything for the greater good of mankind. When he couldn't become a officer or a police officer he got desperate and decided to answer an add in the newspaper. They said he would work there for a very long time, but he desperetly wanted something important to live for. They told him they were searching for cures for different diseases that at the moment are uncureable. At first it felt good, he was part of something important. But as soon as the home sickness started and he realized what really happened on the island; the testsubjects and the scientists' dictatorship with unlimited power he felt that he needed to do something. He decided to simply stop working. It didn't take long before he got "reassigned" to the other side of the fence.
