Washington's state coin will be released in the year 2007. (The year me and my friends graduate, woot) And I was wondering what you guys thought might appear on our quarter of stateliness.
I pray to god it won't be an apple. I know we're semi-famous for our apples, but I'd just rather not see that on our coin. I think it might be something along the lines of Mt. Rainier and the Space Needle. 3nodding

NogginDew For once I'd like to see soemthing Spokane related whenever Washington is brought up. sweatdrop The thing is, what does Spokane have of GREAT significance related to Washington? When a lot of people think of WA they think of apples, wheat, mountains, Seattle, Space Needle...that's what we're known for. Those kind of things...OMG! What if they put mold on the coin! I don't know how you would do that though... ninja They might have rhododendrons...maybe...

Regardless, I put my $10 that we get the space needle on our coin... that or an Orca whale.

I saw a thing where there were entries drawn to be put on the coin, mostly the space needle and mount ranier. I saw a couple with whales too, I think.

I think we're most likely going to get a whale, Mt. Rainer, and probably the Space Needle. Or what about the Columbia River? Just a thought . . .

I really wish I could find a pic of some of the fake state coins they made on Late Night. I don't remember what they did for any of the Washington ones they made, but I'm sure they were at least giggle worthy.

If you think about it, each coin is related to the state's history. In order to determine the image on the final release, all you have to do is consider what made history here in WA. Maybe they'll emboss Mt. St. Helens? It certainly affected the country. Perhaps it will be the ports of the Puget Sound, which is a major importation factor on the west coast. Maybe it will be the Grand Coulee Dam, which completely altered the landscape of the state. I don't think this is something to fight about because there is more to WA than Spokane and Seattle...

Hello?! We were talking about whales and mountains too...and not all the quarters are related to a state's history...I think it's Conneticut (s/p?) that has a tree on it...I guess a tree could be historic but it's there state tree, that's all...correct my memory if I'm wrong... We'll also probably have our state motto on it too, "Alki-Bye and Bye" Or the nickname...I just found something interesting on the internet: The Quarters Program guidelines state that, just as on other coins, no head and shoulders portraits or busts of persons living or dead can appear in the design. State flora and fauna are in, but state flags and seals are out. No "controversial subjects or symbols that are likely to offend," either. The Mint suggests landmarks, state icons, or outlines of the state as a few ideas.
