What made you fall in love with this series? What kept/keeps you with this series?

For me, it was the large cast of characters that immediately drew me into this series. Afterward, it was the story that kept me with this series. I just liked how "real" the plot was. I enjoy fantasy as much as the next person, but sometimes you need a good story that has some realism to it.

Origanaly I truly have to say it was my mother that got me hooked, it was during winter and she didn't have much to do, but what kept me on was the large cast, the rune system, and the turn based battle system (a truely great dieing art)

I think what I really like abut Suikoden is that the story lines are believable. And maybe I just got so ******** sick of saving the goddamn world in every other RPG. Personally, I'd rather play as an emotionally and verbally constipated hero than some generic-a** wanker with a wedgie.

The history is what always keeps me with the series. Although there's a new plot every game, you can always count on a familiar face or a cameo from a previous game. And the history! It's like a freaking book! I love how just every game you get to know more about the world while you're in different countries; instead of regular RPG's where it's always a new world and all you learn are the female's cup sizes.

And of course, the characters. So sexy. Every last one of them.

Really, I could write a novel on why I love Suikoden.

Anyone to notice the balatant Final Fantasy bashing gets a gold star.

Just the fact that you get your own castle, army and it has alot of cool people in it.

And I agree, the story lines are very beleivable, it's all stuff that can really happen.

What got me hooked was really the 100+ characters that you can recruit and the realism of the story lines. I think it's totally awesome to get your own castle and have practically a whole team everything there is that you need...ie...doctors, tacticians, warriors, entertainers, mages, merchants the list just goes on and on! XD

Why is Pesmerga chasing Yuber? Does he owe him money or something?

Although most people deny it, it's obviously because Yuber kissed Pesmerga's ex-girlfriend and stole his Taco Bell discount card.

I would have to say the compromise of having 108 characters - at first. I was anticipating the release of FFVII at the time and when an old friend of mine mentioned this game to me, I decided to give it a shot (the 1st game) to get by. Well, I was impressed but not enough to get over the FF series, but when II came out I was really into the story and the characters. Then finally, III came out and the rest is history (but I never touched IV).

It was the extra effort you put into to get the characters, and it was also having your own headquaters which changes depending on who and how much characters you get.

I was first hooked to the storyline and the characters. The art didn't attract me that much in the first one, but I like it better once I took good looks at it.

Well, I'm gonna have to thank my friend for this one. He wouldn't shut up about how cool II was. Eventually I gave in and played......and became a bigger fan then he ever dreamed to be.

It was the storyline, I swear it. And the characters.......hell, I even like the art.

Unfortunately...I played IV. I almost dropped the series then and there.

Well I could say I ran across the series by chance. xp So I go into it after playing the first one and I'm stuck with it completely with the long cast of characters and the story line and all.

OMGWTFBBQ! What does everyone hate about IV!? Sure, it wasn't the brightest crayon in the box, or however the hell the saying goes, but it was NOT Superman 64! Hells, on GameSpot, IV had a higher score than I OR II did! I mean, it's not true or anything, but it was a SOLID GAME.

Sure, we all got sick and tired of a new battle over every friggin' wave. I missed the extra two people in my party. And the fanboys still had no Pessie or Yubbie. Cry cry cry. Wank wank wank. But you know, the graphics weren't half-bad (don't compare to FFX plzkthx). The voice acting was SUPERB (compared to other games). The new setting on the islands was fresh and new. Jeane was a playable character. TED WAS ALIVE. THE HERO TALKED (in Tactics). YOUR BASE MOVED (HOT DAMN).

I respect the fact that not everyone likes this installment of the Suikoden series. Many people who wank about it still have to tell me why. I understand that it was a huge step away from it's predecessors. But seriously, it was NOT the biggest and most terribly calamity to befall our beloved Suikoden.

If anything, the worst thing to happen to Suikoden was the absence of the cooking mini-game in III.

I love you. I truly do.

What I don't get is why would one disappointment (their words, not mine) cause you to drop the series altogether?

S4 wasn't THAT bad... it just didn't meet our expectations. Every series has its flaws after all. Perhaps we just expected too much out of it... after all, with such great predecessors, it'll have a hard time to top them.

But look at the bright side, at least Konami learned its lesson and finally realized what Suikoden should be and gave us S5.

Anyway, the reason I love this series is because of the story -- most RPGs are about saving the world while Suikoden deals with its politics, internal struggles and character issues that made us love all of these characters, no matter how obscure they seem to be. And, unlike other games with dozens of recruitable characters, all characters play a part of your army -- be it support, shops, strategy, etc. You don't recruit them, set them aside when you get stronger characters and forget they even existed. Plus the character interactions and relationships makes it feel that you really are part of their world -- that you really are their leader.
