*SPOILER*
I appologize if this topic has been posted before, but when I played the game I was always under the impression that the Sephiroth you fight during the course of the game was a sort of spiritual entity of Sephiroth, likely because he was just so powerful that he could still move around and kill people and stuff after he was dead. Since joining this guild, I have seen a lot of people who believe that the Sephiroth you see during the game is actually Jenova in Sephiroth form. Both arguments seem plausible, but is there any evidence to support one or the other? I tend to believe in the first idea that Sephiroth was actually just a spirit, but what do you think?

It was parts of Jenova. Jenova carries with it a shapeshifting capability so therefor it can change into anything it wants. Sephiroth, who is infused with Jenova and still has a control over it in death, uses his will to transform the Jenova pieces we see in the game into himself. Each time we face a Jenova in the game, its really just a piece of the Jenova posing as Sephiroth falling off to fight.

That seems to make sense, but several times, it appears more like Sephiroth throws the piece of Jenova at you, not turns back into a piece of Jenova.

In being just random pieces it can seperate itself from a main piece. The piece that looks like Sephiroth takes off a piece of itself and throws it at your party for a distraction so it can distance itself from you for the time being.

So its a plausible idea. I doubt we could really prove one or the other without actually asking the writers themselves. Is there any evidence outside the game to support one or the other?

Try reading the Jenova thread thats a sticky at the top of the page. Also try Wikipedia. Those are the most credible sources around. Ill try and find more stuff though if youd like.

If you are not stupid then you will believe that it is Jenova... It is obvious. Though Sephy might be a one winged angel and all.. He still goes away, and Jenova preety much takes him over and tried to make Cloud do all that stuffs.

One_Winged_Kadaj If you are not stupid then you will believe that it is Jenova Ouch jeez. This isn't the ED. We don't need to be rude here. soadshuyin Try reading the Jenova thread thats a sticky at the top of the page. Also try Wikipedia. Those are the most credible sources around. Ill try and find more stuff though if youd like. That'd be great. Yeah I really was against the idea that it was actually Jenova at first, but it makes a lot of sense. I suppose I'm warming up to the idea.

Ahhh... but remember the end. Sephiroth didn't really go away. His body was held in hibernation. Therefore, Jenova might be shapeshifting into Sephiroth forms during the course but ultimately Sephiroth is controling her. The final Sephiroth is himself.

Please dont bump. You get my hopes up for some intelligent speaking and maybe even some new argument, but then shatter it all by just being a bumping goldwhore. Bumping is what the chatterbox is for. Take it there.

Heres the deal...
1. Sephiroth-His physical body is in the Northern Crater the entire game. 2. Jenova-Is what you fight on the Ship, Forgotten Capital, and Northern Crater twice. 3. Any other instances where you see Sephiroth-The boat, Aeris's Death ,etc etc until you get to the end of the game is Jenova, but Sephiroth controls her and makes her take his form and do his killing. So in a sense Sephiroth is really there, he's controlling Jenova. You don't actually fight his physical body til the end of the game.

ALL WRONG Useless Bob Sephiroth was NOT killed by Cloud five years Before Game. He was thrown into the Mako in the reactor which led to the lifestream, which led to the place where the lifestream was going to: the crater. Sephiroth's plan was to injure the planet and absorb the lifestream that the planet sent to heal it. Safer Sephiroth (A mistranslation of Seraph Sephiroth) is what Sephiroth became after Hojo gave him a blast from Sister Ray. Hojo did a lot of research on mako and it's effects on humanoids, as shown in Cloud's flashback. As for the Bizarro -> Seraph, I do not know. My guess is that in his Bizarro form, Sephiroth was still an unstable organism, while Seraph Sephiroth was what he became when he finally stabilized. Useless Bob Sephiroth was sealed away, until JENOVA controlled Cloud to give Sephiroth the Black Materia. Sephiroth was in The Crater for ages with JENOVA's head, which regrew. JENOVA SYNTHESIS is JENOVA regrown. Furthermore, the "Sephiroths" that appear in the game are clones controlled by JENOVA by the presence of her cells in their bodies, as she controlls cloud and Sephiroth. Any questions?
