Hello, I'm Mavu, your section leader in this topic. I'm a senior at Great Bridge High School, which has a marching band (which I'm in) that I could brag about forever. This thread is primarily for meeting and conversing with other clarineters about all things clarinet!^^
Have fun!

LOL EDIT: I'm no longer a senior in high school! I'm a freshman in college at Savannah College of Art and Design! ^.^ They have no marching band, unfortunately... v.v But that's only because they have no football field, hehe!

I'm also a clarinetist. I'm a junior in Kings Marching Band, and I've been playing for, I guess it's 5 years now. I think you two and me sum up the clarinets currently in the guild, other than perhaps some of the newer people who haven't posted much. Oh, there's also my friend Emiri Cheza, who I just invited.

I'm in Torrington High School marching band, and the THS concert band.. I've never marched before... except at band camp, where the "newbies" were .... "broken in", so to speak...... I've been playing for about 3 or 4 months now! sweatdrop

It's so much more fun to play than violin! (even though I love my violin deeply)

Hello~! XD I'm a freshman at Firestone High School[Akron,OH], and I play clarinet for marching! Yaaay.
Uh... I whack myself in the nose with my mouthpiece while doing horns up/down drills at Band Camp... o_o
OH! Story time~! Well, in 7th grade our band director told us to get new mouthpieces and ligatures, to help our sound... so, I did, and it worked, and I was happy especially cause my old one sucks.... but then one day, my clarinet was gone from the cabinet! O_O I looked all over, and found it in the trumpet section.. it was fine, except for the fact that they BROKE my new mouthpiece! crying It made me very sad. I'm still playing on my old one now, cause I can't get a student discount anymore.

Well, that was a fun story. Who here chews on new reeds?! *raises hand* biggrin I do,they taste kinda warm..like paper. I eat paper too, but not if it has ink on it.

Who here is going to the BOA thingy in Indianapolis? We're planned to go, but I really have no idea what's going on. sweatdrop

You're going to BOA Grand Nationals and you don't know what's going on? It can be overwhelming if you aren't prepared. I posted the link to the BOA website in the band websites thread; you should take a look.

And you are incredibly enthusiastic. You remind me of a girl in my section in my marching band.

*glomps the clarinetists, then glomps her wooden clarinet*

I'm probably eons older than all of you... I've been playing clarinet since 4th grade, which was in 1990... In high school I was in marching band all four years (co-section leader and assistant drum major my senior year), was moved up to the "advanced" band my sophomore year, and then in college I played for two and a half years in the college band, serving as secretary for two years and concert mistress for one.

Now I am graduated and bandless.... crying

Hey, it's my first year, I've never been to a competition out of state... [farthest would be Music in the Parks in middle school..[our choir pwned them, but our band sucked. X__X Damn judges.]]
I'll check out the website,thanks!

And my eyes are WIDE WITH PRIED!!!! eek Though spirits of course can be dampened when it feels like 100+ degrees outside in the sun. @__X

Hmm....I don't know what place we are...but we don't exactly go to competitions so I guess it's warranted...hehe....

Anyway, I marched clarinet for two years before switching to brass....that was two years ago but I still remember much of what it was like hehe.....I think the hardest thing I had during the first part of every band camp was keeping my mouthpiece from knocking against my teeth...hehe...the good ole days....There was one thing that always bugged me when I marched clarinet though...IT WASN'T LOUD ENOUGH! lol.....of course...wood clarinets are like that 3nodding

Wee! eek
I'm a freshman, and have been playing clarinet for a year and two months now, but I picked it up fast, and I'm one of the loudest players in my section, on occasion. xp

Heh, I'm just an idiot but I love my clarinet, so pardon my enthusiasm. 3nodding eek

Bleh, during practice in our closing theme there's a move I back into for 18 counts, and it's really, really weird. eek I ended up moving to the right too soon and crashing into someone, falling, and now my ankle is a little swollen. 'Tis band for ya, I guess. whee xp

I have two clarinets, my new wood one for concert band, and my old plastic one for marching. I'm certainly one of the loudest in my section, which is good, because I can usually be relied on to be in time . . . usually. The plastic probably has something to do with that; it's certainly louder and easier to play than the wood one, but of course, it doesn't sound as good.

Well, no worries, you and your band have plenty of time. Just keep to the schedule and know where you're going next, and you'll be fine. biggrin
