Well, I figured i'd keep true to my Iced Earth fandom by making an IE thread, considering that's why I was invited to this guild.
So, first off, who here had heard of this incredible Power/Thrash metal band that has been around for over 20 years? Second, who here actually likes them as much as I do? Third, if you do like them, what are your favorite albums and songs, and what is your favorite vocalist from the band? Is it Gene Adam from early IE (1988-1990), Jon Greely from Night of the Stormrider (1991), Matt Barlow (1994-2002), or the new vocalist, Tim "The Ripper" Owens, from The Glorious Burden? All three of them are awesome in my book, and I won't judge Owens because he was in Priest. Any other thoughts?

My favourite album is Something Wicked This Way Comes, though I prefer the Gettysburg trilogy, if you wanna coubt that. Favourite song: Stand Alone, or any Gettysburg song. Favourite vocalist, Matt Barlow, I guess, though I have no prejudice against Tim Owens. I'm no big fan of either of the first two vocalists.
I ought to get cracking with their discography again sometime soonish.

So, I assume that means you like Matt Barlow's versions of the songs that were originally featured on the first and second ones, right? I prefer to listen to Gene Adam's version of Life and Death and When the Night Falls (my favorite IE song of all time!), and Jon Greely's version of Angels' Holocaust and Travel in Stygian. The Barlow versions were good, but didn't hold a candle to the originals in my humble opinion.

I didn't know Matt has versions of the old songs. The only song I remember really loving off Enter The Realms and Iced Earth was Colours. Colours is great.

So you've never listened to Days of Purgatory then? That's a compilation of all of IE's old stuff that features the old songs redone, with Matt Barlow on vocals. Colours is included as well.

No, I haven't heard it. I may well just check out the version of Colours though.
So which release started you off? Mine was the Melancholy EP, which a friend made me listen to.

Mine was the Melancholy EP, which a friend made me listen to.Actually, my very first IE album was also THE very first IE album, their self-titled one sweatdrop I got it because I saw it used at my music store, and I thought, "this might just be rare," because it was the original cover art for the American release (you know, the angel with one wing falling, with an arctic background). At first i didn't like it because of the vocals on the song Iced Earth, but the riffs by Schaffer convinced me to keep listening, and I ended up liking it. Then i got Horror Show and Glorious Burden, so I was introduced to Barlow and Owens' vocals

I don't download my s**t, i buy it. I got the 2-Disc version with the extra song 'Waterloo' and the acoustic version of 'When the Eagle Cries,' so yeah. That's an incredible Epic (i guess you can call it an epic. An epic is a long poem that tells a story, so yeah.)
