Paestri

Paestri was ecstatic to be allowed to go to the park by herself. Well, not really all by herself, her brother would be there along with her niece. In all honesty she was still being chaperoned, only this time around she was free to wander off.

Besides, Paestri was never really alone. Not when she had Malady with her. She flashed the Intangible an excited grin.

"Ready to go exploring with me?"

Malady made a motion that looked very similar to someone who shrugged in boredom.

Whatever you want. It sighed, draping itself on Paestri's shoulders.

Demare seemed to be in a bit of a trance as he read his book while walking, finding the house to be a little too noisy today. Chrys had been feeling down lately, and Clare thought being outside might do it some good. It felt happier, that was for sure, curiosity washing over the halfling's body. The angel, however, was not being very helpful as his attention was more on the book than what the little Fiend was inquiring about.

The book he held was thick, large, and appeared to be very old. The pages were worn and antique, looking as if they would crumble and turn to dust at the slightest wrong touch, but somehow all of the writing had managed to stay intact. The book was enchanted; a spell cast upon it so that it wouldn't die from merely old age, but actual damage (like a fire, or pages being physically torn out) instead. This gave the child some relief, as he was afraid to leave the house with it in case the sun might do it harm.

The feeling of curiosity faded away as it was replaced with alertness, the little stone trying to warn Demare of something.

"Chrys, not right now," he sighed, frowning a little bit as he turned his bi-colored eyes away from the book for just a moment. "I'll explain things to you later. Right now, I want to finish rea--"

The boy plowed right into a pink haired girl that was in front of him, having not seen her at all. Chrys simply felt smug and amused, kind of an "I told you so" feeling he felt was perfect for the situation.

((OOC note: Chrys can't be seen or heard, as he has no voice and is merely a "shadow". Demare is the only one that can see him right now.))

((Malady is visible only to Legends, and as for being able to hear what it says I leave that to your decision :3))

Paestri fell backwards onto the grassy ground as a young boy walks right into her. Had he been moving any faster Paestri would have probably ended up flat on her back. Instead she seemed like she just decided to sit down at that specific moment with a soft "Oomf."

She blinked up in surprise, which was pretty much all that was evident in her icing pink eyes. Oh! Someone who was roughly her age, maybe a little older! Wonderful!

She brightened and eagerly stood up. "Hello, nice day isn't it? I'm Paestri, what's your name?" she asked without batting an eye.

Malady, however, was not as amicable as the pink Legend. It didn't quite fall, not the way Paestri did, but it was dislodged from its perch on Paestri's shoulders. The Intangible screeched in anger, eyes flaring menacingly at the boy with the book. It scowled in disapproval as Paestri greeted the offending person.

"Freak!" it snarled loudly at the male child before coiling around Paestri's waist like a belt.

Demare seemed to wave something off in the air, the two unable to see the mischief wisp hovering near his ear. Closing his book, he was about to reach a hand down to offer to help the girl stand, but was a bit surprised as she stood up on her own so quickly. He blinked a couple of times, still trying to catch up in his mind, a bit embarressed about even running into her.

"Ah, y-yes... nice day," he echoed softly, before smiling. "My name is Demare. It's a pleasure to meet you, Paestri."

His wings fidgetted a little bit behind his back as he picked up a faint voice, noticing the wisp-like form hovering over the girl's waist. He couldn't see a face, muchless make out it's complete form, but the only thing he needed to know was that he could hear it.

"I'm not a freak," he responded to it, hoping the girl would understand. "I'm a perfectly norma--"

Well, that would have been a lie.

"...Okay, maybe not normal. But I'm not a freak. Besides, something not a part of this plane shouldn't be calling others such things."

"Wow, your wings are really pretty Demare. They're a lot different than Linny's Feien's, although his wings are pretty too." Paestri giggled. Her face seemed to light up when Demare responded to Malady's insult. "Oh WOW! You can see and hear Malady? You're the first person who can see it and who doesn't think I'm making it up. What does it look like to you?" she asked curiously.

She wanted to know whether Malady really did look like the dark gray wispy mass that she saw it to be. Who knows after all, it may look like something else entirely. Paestri gave no signs of scolding Malady for saying mean things it seemed.

"Fine, you ain't a freak." Malady sneered, "But since you ain't normal neither, you're weird!" it cackled, sticking its tongue out of its mouth (the only discernable feature the Intangible had aside from its eyes).

Had Chrys any hands, it would have been shaking them at Malady. A feeling of annoyance had washed over Demare, but Clare simply ignored it. Or rather, he tried to... It was hard to say whether or not that was his own feeling or not.

"Ah! Um... t-thank you," the halfing got out, blushing slightly at the comment. "Oh, someone in your family has a feien as well? My guardian has six of them. She's trying to pass one of them off to me, but... I'm not particularly sure I want to take care of that one..."

He felt it wasn't necessary to go into the details of how Roswell acted. It was one thing to annoy Demian... It was another to annoy him. His bi-colored eyes widened slightly as Paestri grew excited over the fact that he could see the wispy thing floating around the child.

"Well, it kinda just looks like heavy smoke," he explained, glancing at Malady again. "Very... very heavy smoke. I see no face, however, if it's supposed to have one. And yes, you're right, Malady. I am weird, and I am okay with that if you are."

((I realize I shouldn't be listening to "The Internet Is For Porn" while trying to reply to PD's @_@))

"Why don't you want that Feien? Is he or she like Avi? Avi is really mean and doesn't like hugs and stuff." Paestri laughs as if that was the most wonderful thing in the world. "Yup yup, that's what Mal looks like. Why don't you like being called a freak? Mal calls everyone at home a freak and they don't seem bothered. Or maybe it's because no one at home sees Mal?" she pauses and looks thoughtful for a moment.

"What were you reading?" she asks, noticing for the first time the book Demare had.

"Sure, whatever." Malady rolled its eyes, unimpressed with Demare all the more that he agreed with it. "I don't matter after all, nothing does!" it moans dramatically before curling around Paestri's shoulder in mimicry of a stole.

((...Why, no... You probably shouldn't. xd *fears what could come of that song*))

Demare quirked a brow at her, a little confused by the question.

"Well, if you were called a freak by some stranger, wouldn't you be at least a little bit upset?" he questioned, lifting a hand to rub at the back of his neck. "When you've feared being called such since you were born, it's a different story. I used to worry about others accepting me because of my... look."

He shook his head a little bit, sighing lightly as he hugged the book he held to his chest. "The feien Neko wants to give me is quite... hyper. He's a bit annoying, which obviously says something because I don't annoy easily."

Curiosity washed over him as Chrys took interest in the book as well. The little wisp floated close to the cover and bumped itself right into it, as if it thought it could enter the book like a ghost could go through walls. The halfling couldn't help but chuckle a little bit.

"Ah... well... this book..." Demare began quietly, wondering if he should actually tell her about it or not, "It's... Hm. It's kinda about the dead."

"Really? So being called a freak is bad?" Paestri blinks, trying to understand why exactly. Regardless of her comprehension she turns to the Intangible, "From now on Mal, no more calling other people "Freak" okie?" she instructs sweetly.

"Oh sure, deny me one of the few pleasures I actually am capable of experiencing..." Malady sobbed, tendrils shooting up into the air in lieu of hands. It continued to ramble and blubber about topics that were rather depressing to anyone other than Paestri.

"You don't annoy easily? That's good, I think." Paestri giggles, "Avitus gets annoyed a lot, especially when I'm around." she continues, still grinning from ear to ear. She cants her head to the side, curiously staring at the book as Demare begins to explain what it was about.

"The dead, huh? Is it about what they did that made them dead or what happens to them now that they're dead?" her eyes sparkle in delight and wonder. Such interesting topics other people read, why was it that Huni didn't have those sorts of books at home?

Demare decided that this girl was rather strange. Maybe she was just... young in the mind still. After all, it took him a while to figure things out at first, as well.

"Well... some people don't mind it," he said with a sigh, trying to explain it better. "Some people don't care. However, to others, they find it offensive, and sometimes it can hurt people's feelings. Like, for instance, calling someone stupid or retarded. Some people don't care about that, because it's considered to be kind of like a joke. It's not meant seriously. But others may find it offensive because... oh, nevermind. I'm explaining this too much."

Demian was right. Clare did read into things too much sometimes.

"Er..." His attentioned turned back to the book. "Actually, it's about... controling them. I'm hoping to find information about reanimating one, however."

"No, no, I think you're being faschi- fasi- erm, very interesting." Paestri laughed while smoothing out her skirt. She remembered what it was like being offended and hurt, although nowadays she just didn't seem to find herself feeling them anymore.

She knew why, but she didn't think there was a reason to worry about it. Pushing it out of her thoughts, she focused her attentions once again on Demare.

"You want to reanimate the dead? Was it a pet of yours that died? Or was it a family member? Or will anything dead do?" She blinked, tapping her finger against her cheek thoughtfully. "By the way, what does reanimate mean?"

Malady snorts and turns to stare at Demare. "What's so special about the dead anyway? All they ever do is haunt you and bother you and never let you rest..." it mutters.

"Er, well..." Demare didn't know how to explain without telling the girl the whole story. She didn't seem bothered by much, however, so maybe it wouldn't be too bad to explain. "I want to make a new body... Not for me, but for... well, my other half."

His wings fidgetted a little bit as Chrys hid himself under the leathery wing, nudging the Legend's back. It seemed he was getting bored.

"I have two souls, you see... There's me, Clare... I'm the angelic side of the body. And then there's Demian, the demon side. I'm not particularly fond of how Demian's been lately, so I want to see if I can seperate us for good so I don't have to deal with him anymore."

Demare had to think about how to explain the word for a moment. "Reanimate means... Well, it's kind of like giving life to something. Not quite a revival, but... similar to it."

((I think my mp3 player can sense when I'm writing a reply because it is once again playing "The Internet is for Porn" O_o))

It would seem that there wasn't anything that Demare could say that would put-off Paestri. She listened and nodded to his response (of both his reasons and what the word reanimate meant), taking everything in with a certain air of innocence and keen interest. Her mouth curves into a pout in slight confusion towards the end Demare's explanation.

"But I thought your name was Demare? Is Clare your second name? Or the other way around?" she asked, not even bothering to think she might offend the winged boy. "But you want to separate the Demian part of you? That's a funny coincidence because I separated Malady from me." she giggled proudly.

"And don't think I had a say in the matter, of course I didn't... I just found myself here. Outside." it shuddered in dread.
PostPosted: Wed May 31, 2006 1:36 am

((It's some sort of sign. It HAS to be. eek ))

"Well... see, I suppose I have two names," the boy explained, realizing that it must have been confusing. "Most people know me as Demare, as that is the name we were given. Demian and I tend to use that name when introducing ourselves, but... I'm trying to get people to call me Clare from now on, in an attempt to protect others from my other side. Demian's... not very nice, you see."

He was still upset over what the demon had done to Mayu. He'd probably never forgive him for that.

"You two were seperated?" he asked curiously, looking between Malady and Paestri for a moment. "What happened to cause that?"

"How do I know when I'm talking to "Clare" or "Demian"? Do you change forms when it's Demare in charge?" She continued her questions, leaning in close to the young man to stare at his face intently. Her hands rests upon her thighs, as if in order to maintain balance in her current position.

"And yup," she withdraws, satisfied in her current observation. "I separated it from myself. How it happened is simple: I just didn't want it in me any longer." she chirped with a giggle.

At this Malady lets out a deep, throaty wail of despair.
