Valelldia walked down the length of WhistleStick, letting her nails trip across the canvas with a smile and a sigh as a firefly flitted past her vision in a quick burst of light. And then it was gone. The night was young, still, and there was little more for the gypsies here in the mountains. It was time to move on.

The campfire was roaring in the midst of the wagon circle- where they were moored, just outside town. Valelldia knew that the gypsies would know to come here. She'd sent a spell through the night air- to draw all those who belonged to the fold. This, she knew, might draw newcomers... the gypsy call is strong, and is difficult to resist. ...They would come, here to the clearing, among their animals and their homes on wheels- and they would see the logs and stones placed around the fire. They would see that it was time to reorder themselves, to rebalance the meij.

They would come.

Irina's wagon was behind the others. She'd followed Caroline and DeArca here not more than a couple of days earlier, and she'd been trying to make herself at home in the caravan. She hadn't really met many people yet, but she knew that it'd be time to make friends soon enough.

There was a strange feeling in the air, and as she felt a breeze whistle through the few cracks in her wagon, she got a shiver up her spine. Opening her window, she looked out to see a roaring fire in the center of the circle of wagons. Things looked quite festive, she thought, and shut the window back up tightly, to keep the chill out.

Tonight seemed to be a special night...she just felt it in her bones. The fire and the circle were calling to her.

She got up from her chair, and gave herself a glance in the mirror, patting down chestnut waves that never seemed to do what she wanted. She pinched her cheeks and straightened her shirt, and then skirts, wrapping a shawl around her waist, and then another around her shoulders.

Satisfied with her appearance, she took another look in the mirror, and glanced down at the dressing table. The mushroom caught her eye, and she picked it up and rubbed it with her fingers. Her fingers seemed to tingle as she rubbed it, and she was a bit taken aback, slipping the charm into her pocket. Perhaps someone here might know what it was or where it was from. After all, the gypsies were well-travelled, much like Irina herself.

Opening the door, she took in a breath of cold night air, and then slipped out into the night, toward the inviting fire.

Heather had been playing with Amkia, oh how she adored him, the way he acted and the sounds he made. She had found though that he slept alot, an awful lot which saddened her a little but it meant she could get everything done though he was no problem when he was awake.

She had gone out to feed the dogs when she realised Val was calling her. She had looked for the new girl she had given a horse to but she couldn't see her so she went inside adn picked Amkia up who was chittering away to himself happily. "Come on you silly boy!" She chuckled and kissed his head again, she loved her son so much.

She set off to the fire leaving the dogs eating and the horses grazing on the little grass that they hadn't eaten already. She then walked towards the fire, Amkia, he loved the fire and was trying to get out of Heathers arms, attempting to get closer to the light, he was lighting the area up as they went himself. When he was happy he would glow bright, it was good coz it meant he could never hide his emotions from his mother!

They reached the fire and sat down not far from Val, she let go of Amkia and he crawled close to the fire and just watched it, occasionally clapping his hand and chuckling. Heather just watched lovingly as she waited for everyone else.

Lorelei clambered down from Ivy-Twined's front, where she had been sitting in the dusk, thinking. The inside of her wagon... Vanna agreed that they shouldn't go in until after tlaking to Val. The incident with the letter opener had shocked Lorelei into realizing just how serious the haunting was.

Vanna was the first to alert her to Val's call, more understanding of the meij's call than the red-head. She had felt it, as well, but wasn't fully sure what it meant.

Following Vanna's lead and patting Caelebre on the flank as she passed, she lifted her skirts slightly and hurried over to the fire and warmth. Finding a large, smooth rock on which to sit, she sat, waited.

Marko felt a quick tug on his reins as he came to a stop with the other wagons. "Easy boy. We stop here!" DeArca asked, standing up on his seat as he kiijed at the great fire in the center. His eyes then circled across the wagons surrounding the flame. "It seems that I've finally found my final destination, Marko!" He jumped down to the ground and Marko gave a snort. "I'm just going inside!" He asked, entering his wagon

DeArca used this time to get in his best clothes since his others were in need of washing in the river. In a thick pair of brown overalls and a white shirt, DeArca stepped over to the bed, sitting down on it as he kicked his feet into his old boots. "At least Caroline was able to fix these things!" He said to himself, stomping his feet to get them snug inside the boots. He stood again as he reached behind him, taking the minature tree figurine from the shelf and stared down at it. "Let's go!"

DeArca opened the door to his wagon, stepping back down to the ground as the figurine stashed in his hand. "Just keep quiet, Marko, and don't make too much trouble! This is important!" He asked, scratching his mule's ears as he stepped carefully towards the great fire, standing still to wait to see what would happen. I wish you could stand here beside me, Illyana. You would love nothing more than to be here...He thought, crossing his arms.

Emelyn

PostPosted: Fri May 19, 2006 9:31 am

Emelyn came to the call, slipping in amongst the others. Pierre was at her side, tucked close to his mother's warm form, eyeing the glow of the fire as they approached it.

"Good evening, sisters and brothers," Emelyn said, smiling. The words still felt a little unfamiliar to her- no matter how long she'd been on this journey as a gypsy, there was still a part of her that considered it foreign. But she knew that there must be some gypsy in her- otherwise, she wouldn't have heard the call.

They sat with the others around the fire, settling on a log rather than a cold stone. Emelyn opened up her shawl for Pierre to cuddle under, then drew her shawled arm around them both. Pierre's spiked head brushed against her chin, and Emelyn bowed down to kiss him- gently.

Irina watched as others gathered around, and she walked toward the fire circle a bit timidly, giving waves to those who had gathered around as well. Sitting down on another flat rock, she looked around to see if she knew anyone.

Caroline hadn't appeared yet with Rojiza, but out of the corner of her eye, she could see DeArca. Giving him a wave and a smile, she motioned for him to come sit by her. At least the new people could sit together, she figured.

"Good evening," she replied, answering the woman's greeting. She gave her a smile as well, and looked at her son, who seemed to have spikes coming from his skin. "Nice to meet you," she said as the pair sat down to get warm by the fire.

Pulling her shawl around her more closely, she stared into the fire, mesmerized by it almost.

Stifling a yawn, Yuka stumbles through the grass toward the glow of the fire. At her ankles, grumpy as always, follows Mitexi, dragging her ragdoll rabbit in her beak with dedication and perhaps an extra level of protection over the object. She would never let it get stolen from her again!

"Lovely evening," Yuka comments softly, scooping up Mitexi in her furry white arms. She wears her best gypsy clothing in shades of orange and red and brown, and with the Fortunette against her chest, Mitexi almost blends right in.

Oqaia came to the call as well, drawn to it like she had been in her youth to the smell of her mother's baking. She would put her nose to the air and walk towards not just the smell- but the feeling of the hearth, of the joy and the peace of things.

When she came to the circle, her half-sister smiled, nodded, and passed her the bag filled with wishing dust, inclining her head towards the fire. Though they shared but a small amount of blood between him- it was dark, river gypsy blood that coursed through their veins, and each day they were together, they became more alike- more sure of the subtext in their gestures and their thoughts. Oqaia need ask no questions.

She came forward to the fire, and stared into their depths, knowing that all eyes were upon her.

"I wish... for our family's cotinued peace and happiness." Then, she took a handful of the precious dust and released it into the fire. The flames soared high, showing a glimpse of the future- though Oqaia knew that it would be cryptic, perhaps even symbolic. Each person who made a wish with the dust, then threw it into the flames, would see some glimmer of their future- or the future of one connected to them.

Oqaia saw a young man, a yoke around his neck and a smile about his face, rapping on the door of a wagon. Then, the flames fell to their normal height, and the vision was gone. Oqaia was left, standing, the light illuminating those bottom parts of her face and eclipsing the rest in shadow.

"Welcome to the wagon ordering ceremony. And I see... that we have some guests with us- perhaps new members to our family, since they answered the call. We welcome you, newcomers, and ask you to be a part of our fold. We shall decide where your wagon- your home- will go in our line, to balance the power of the meij that flows through us all. We also must place dear Lorelei, for she has been outside the line ever since her home was discovered. ...We shall start... with the wishing dust."

With that, Oq passed the bag to the person at her side and sat, warming her hands out on the glow.

((No posting order- just post that you got the bag from the person next to you... make a wish- doesn't have to be 'out loud' then toss the dust, see a vision. ^__^ Fun stuff. Surprises abound.))

((This'll be my last post until Sunday most likely. I'm going to be out of town, so you guys can go on without me. Just put Ravenwood wherever you feel is most appropriate. If someone wants to play Irina for me, that's fine too. Mae would probably do a good job, if not Oq. 3nodding See you all later!))

Irina watched as the two gypsy women met in front of the fire pit, one holding the strange bag. She observed the woman making her wish, and throwing some dust from the bag into the fire. The flames flared up, and the woman seemed to be looking into them, as if they held some magical power.

As she spoke, Irina felt instantly welcomed. Perhaps coming into the carvan was the best thing she could have done. These people seemed to be more friendly than most of those she met on the road, and looking around the circle gave her a warm feeling.

Taking the bag from the person next to her, Irina stood up. "Thank you for being so welcoming," she said with a polite curtsy. "I am Irina Bagirli, and I have recently joined your caravan. My own wagon is Ravenwood, and any of you are welcome to stop by if you ever need anything," she said, nodding. "Or, you know, if you just want to talk. The door is always open." A grin broke out on her face.

Reaching into the bag, she pulled out a small handful of the dust, and closed her eyes, making a silent wish. I wish I had a family again--A family to call my own.

Once the wish was complete, Irina opened her eyes once again and glanced around the circle, feeling a bit anxious. What would see see within the flames? She tossed the dust into the flames and watched in anticipation.

The flames went up in green and purple streaks, and within the flames was the silhouette of a man, tall and strong. He was holding a bundle, which Irina could only guess to be an infant, wrapped in swaddling clothes. As quickly as the vision came, it went, leaving only orange flames behind.

Walking back to her sitting stone, she handed the bag to the next person in the circle.

|Since you're gone, Sizz, I'm gonna assume you've passed the bag to whoever.|
Caroline, who had taken a sear near Irina, takes the bag of dust as it's passed to her. She looks inside, remembering her wish for romantic companionship from the last wagon ordering ceremony. She scoops a small handful of the dust from the bag and flings it onto the fire, murmuring softly, "I wish for joy." She waits for the vision she knows will follow. Slowly the orange flame fades to pink. A bird takes flight and soars away. The fire returns to its normal state.
While her mother sits enraptured, Rojiza gingerly takes the bag from her. She waits for Caroline's vision to clear, for her to blink and take notice of the world again, before taking some of the sparkling dust in her little paw and holds it over the fire, letting it pour from her hand into the flames. I wish for a voice, she says in her mind. She watches as the fire shifts and changes. She sees nothing corporal, really, just a mishmash of colours and textures. She wonders what it means--she'd expected a vision, not the fire to just change colour.

Marissa was at the fire, and the familiar tradition of the wishing dust met her like a missed friend. When the bag was passed to her, she breathed a sigh of happiness and took her son's hand, lowering it into the bag with hers.

Kale knew this feeling, too. He remembered it vaguely, remembered the feeling of the fire. It was different than the fires every other night; special. He also remembered feeling of the fine sand that sifted about his fingers.

Marissa said loudly, "I wish for ... security." She tossed the tiny crystals onto the flames. Kale giggled as the grains danced away.

[Oq, I don't know how you're planning this one- I can do my own vision, or wait for the others to finish, or whatev'. <3]
