Ugh...This is what happens when both the presidency and Congress are controlled by Republicans...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12853948/

How could something like that make it to the Senate floor? Granted, it probably won't get the 66 votes it needs to pass, mainly because the right side of the political spectrum is somewhat split in its views right now, but...what if it does? President Bush has made it very clear that if the bill finds its way to his desk, he won't hesitate to sign it.

Though, I must say, if Feingold runs for president in 2008, and there isn't any serious competition on the Democratic side, I would totally vote for him in the primaries. :3 His storming out of a Senate committee meeting has earned him a few points of respect in my eyes.

Oh, and speaking of elections, I'm praying to God that the Democrats win some seats in Congress at the mid-term elections in November. Divided government is a key check on the President, and when we don't have it, well, stuff like this happens...

Gah...I'm sorry about this rant...Please note that I don't mean to offend anyone with my views...I just saw this on MSN, and I had to say something about it. So...any thoughts?

*spoon-feeding discussion* ^^;;

I've never understood the debate about Same-sex marriage. Marriage isn't a religious thing, as I'm sure people got married /before/ christianity was around. It's not like you even need it to live together...all it is a pretty (and expensive) piece of paper with a few more rights attached to it. >>

I think we should just let gay/lesbian couples get married already. Either that, or give the same legal rights that married people have, to people living in a common law relationship.

*sighs*

Geeze. stare

I guess I really am going to have to move to Canada after all... I mean, I've got nothing against Canada - it's a great place, but somehow I think it's going to be a bit harder making a video game company there then here. crying

I like this other guy though - I haven't heard of him before, but he deffinitly sounds good so far... Hm. confused

I know...So much for separation of church and state, huh? Gah...

But, if this amendment does make it to the Constitution, what'll happen? How can the government deny so many people the right to marry? Isn't that an encroachment on our natural rights as Americans? 'Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness'?

They'll say government recognizing your marriage doesn't have anything to do with being happy. And remember, thats just in the preamble. It isnt really part of the constitution...*sigh* I think its time to go Republican Racking...

XD That's true...I was just kinda ranting...^^;

@Scathach13: Russ Feingold. He's a Democratic Senator from Wisconsin. The only thing I really know about him is that he co-sponsored a bill concerning campaign funding reform with Senator John McCain a few years back...Oh, also, he apparently serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee...XD; *learned that from the article*

Lol... I think we ALL learned that from the article...=P
I wonder if there'd be all this fuss if there wasn't any tax breaks for married couples...

I'm sure there would be. It's more of a moral issue, no?

It would, but since there's no real...benefit I guess from getting married, so the moral issue wouldn't come up in congress. When does Congress make decisions on Moral issues, if there aer no laws being broken or something like that? Do you understand what I mean?

I have to aggre on this one but I can see the other side but for me if I like a girl and I want to marry her I should be able to without skipping the country. I wish people would stop freaking out...We are all human and we should all have the same oppertunities...Marriage is a little (Or big it depends on who you are.) thing true but that is just denying something for unjust reason...

Agh, things like that make me want to scream what the hell man, what the hell?! It's a shame our country is being mostly headed by a bunch of close minded conservatives. Yeesh, I wouldn't be suprised if they accidently blew up a country,

scream That's just wrong! Wasn't it Shakespeare himself who said Cupid is blind? It's people like that that make me want to go on a muderous rampage. People have a right to get married to whoever they want. Otherwise, it's a total disagreement with the founding principles of our Consitution.

Ironic, we had a discussion about this in IR class ... in Japan, I think you actually can have same sex marriage.

I'm not entirely sure how the legalities are in Japan, but malexmale relationships are considered fine there, primarily because it was so often done by samurai away from their wives for long periods of time (eventually making it an accepted practice, lol). But litteral marrige? I'm not sure. Also, the Japanese aren't as keen on femalexfemale.

*nodnod* Not to mention Belgium, the Netherlands, and Canada. :3

@QueenofMallets: Yeah...Hopefully by November we'll have some more liberal-minded people in Congress. XD Man, I really wish I was 18 so I could vote now...

XD *snicker* Accidentally blew up a country? It seems to me we're doing a pretty good job of intentionally blowing things up, and making sure the entire world knows about it. ><;

@Kinomi_Sekkai: That's a good point. I didn't really think of it from a legal or economic standpoint... sweatdrop
