All not too long ago, a brown, male hyena had reached the outskirts of the Elephant Graveyard, the side bordering the Southlands. He had been followed by a young hyena pup, barely a month old, also a male who had been dropped off quite recently by his mother. The brown hyena had been appointed the official caretaker of the puppy, for the mother had no intrest in the thing. Though the light grey pup, dubbed Mabozi, didn't seem to notice that he was unwanted at all. He was as happy go lucky as any young creature without a care in the world could be, and he was rather thrilled to be going on such an adventure with his new companion.

As they reached the Southlands, Mabozi's mind was reeling with questions about the place. It was so... Not grey. Without knowing it, the pup had crossed the border of what was his home and moved into the neutral lands, little nose twitching furiously. He left his 'nanny' behind quickly, completely forgetting about the elder hyena in his search for some fun.

Not far away from where the little pup was wandering, a small family of two were currently resting in the warmth of the southlands. Curled within the protective grasp of her mother, the young hyena pup found herself being shaken from her warmth, and slowly opened her light eyes to gaze out at the haze which was her home. It had not been long since she first obtained her sight, as well as words, for she still was a newborn and still had many things to learn.

One thing she had yet to learn was how to follow the rules set by her mother. Moving slowly from the warm grasp, the small pup stood up slowly and let out a large lawn, accompanied by a grin. Jumping over the 'mountains' which were her mother's paws, she shook out her little form before peering at the high grasses around her. Maybe, she hoped, she could search around and get to know the lands while her mother still slept. With that thought in mind, she slowly inched towards where the grasses began.

As young Mabozi strayed farther and farther from his caretaker, he began to grow more and more curious. His greedy green eyes, ones so much like those of his father, were absorbing the information of everything around him. He had never been here before, everything was so new to him, and everything excited him so. As he pawed along, Mabozi came in contact with something he had never seen before. A long blade a dry grass laid limply at his paws, and on the blade, there crawled a small, brown beetle. The youngster's eyes bugged out at the sight and he backed up. He had never seen this thing before! Nothing but the hyenas lived in the Graveyard, he had never seen any other living being except the hyenas.

"'Lo thar!"

Mabozi breathed down at the beetle, his nose almost pressed to the ground as he watched it inch along. It said nothing in response, which saddened young Mabozi. The pup pinned his ears back, frowning, and hopped over the unsocial critter. Soon, Bozi had put the beetle behind him and was off again, and once again, he spotted something. This was a bigger something, a his size something. The pup's lips formed into a goofy smile before he even knew what he was looking at. With a sigh, he started off in a quick trot toward this new objeect of intrest.

As she had rounded away from her mother, Bacia found herself shakily crawling along the grasses until she neared a path. The long blades breaking and leaving room to talk, her small form padded there before she settled on her haunces. With her eyes looking around in surprise, her ears flattened against her skull in concentration. She had no idea which way to go, because either way, she would need to keep close to her sleeping mother.

Finally, she decided to go to the right, and stood back up on her ill-trained paws. Only making it a few steps, her ears perked at the sound of some strange voice. It seemed different than her mother's in tone, and she just paused in her steps until a form appeared to acompany that voice.

Tilting her head, Bacia watched as Mabozi moved closer to her, backing up as the pace of his quickened. Not knowing who he was, she looked right, then left, before jumping into the grasses in an effort to hide. Usually, she would hide behind her mother's pelt, but at the moment her protection was currently MIA.

Little Mabozi halted in his movement as he saw what he had been following suddenly dart off into some tall grass. The pup simply stood in his place, his slow working brain still trying to process what had just happened. That signature grin was still plastered on his face. Finally, Mabozi realized that whatever it was that he was looking for, was hiding from him, and that surely did not make for good finding. His brow furrowed in thought as his small paws once again started into motion.

He made his was closer to where the something had hidden itself and sniffed around. Perhaps his was a game or something. He played games by himself all the time! He had a favorite one where he'd hide from himself, and entertaining himself for hours on end miraculously. With a sudden notion of complete curiosity, Mabozi stuck his head into the tall grasses where the something hid, his big, green eyes carrying a friendly expression,

"'Lo thar ya some'ing!

"EEP!" Her sharp voice carried out into the silence of the lands, small form falling back from where she cowered as two bright eyes seemed to appear out of no where. Breathing rugedly, Bacia swiped her paw at Mabozi as she gave up and pushed back out into the pathway.

"What you tryin' ta do?" She asked in her bright, light voice of a young hyena, "Kill me?" She seemed to not comprehend his question, her ears perked and her eyes blazing lightly with confusion and fear. Moving a few feet away, she just looked him up and down before waiting for the answer, tail swinging slowly and eyes flickering every few seconds to the area her mother currently slept.

Mabozi's already wide eyes widened ever farther as he heard the something squeak in surprise. He didn't flinch though, didn't even move as the something swiped a paw mere centimeters from his nose. His mind didn't process that fast, and even if it did catch up with current events, he'd probably forget about them. Though, after a while, the something was no longer a something, but a hyena! This new revalation greatly excited Mabozi, he had never met another hyena his age before, for no other pups were born into the Graveyard pack. His tail whipped back and forth happily as he hopped forward,

"'M tryin' a say 'lo! Whadja think?"

The pup let out a high pitched hyena cackle at her other question. Kill her? He didn't even know what that word meant, but his mother sure said it a lot. Perhaps it was a term of enderment.

"O'ly if'n tha' wants... But I dunnot tryin' that!.... Tha's a yeena! I'm M'bozi, who's tha'?"

Mabozi was so excited with this new discovery that he could scarcely think straight.

Inching ever so slowly away, Bacia watched with wide, red eyes as the hyena seemed to be jumping up and down from excitement. Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm her jittering nerves before letting out another squeak at his cackle. Ears falling back, she lowered her head in a sort of submissive manor as she tried to look for a way to escape.

"Woul'ya be quiet!" She hissed out, "Mamma's 'sleep." She shook her head at him as she ignored all of his words that made no sense, considering he seemed to speak so fast that they molded together, and only got the name part.

"Bacia." The sentence was short as she moved back to her height and let her white bangs cloak her eyes. Paws slightly dirty from the ground, she tried shaking the dust off, though it seemed to only make it worse.

"Mommas gonna know..." She whined to herself, seemingly forgetting about Mabozi for the time being.

Mabozi let out a muffle cackle this time, his eyes shining bright with his extatic joy. His ears did press back light as the other pup bid him be quiet. He wasn't very well versed on that subject at all, in the Graveyard, no one could really hear his shouts and laughs, it was as deserted as it got spare for the few hyenas in his mother's pack. As the female mentioned her mother, Mabozi stood up straight, his expression beaming. MaMa! He loved his MaMa. Mafa, being herself, had forbidden Mabozi to call her mother, and urged him to call her Mafa, but MaMa was all he could anunciate at the moment, so MaMa it was.

Mabozi squinted hard, trying to commit the female's name to memory... Bacia... He tried hard, but would most likely forget it in a few moments notice, perhaps, if he stuck around her enough, he'd forge it into his long term memory and make it stick. But for now, he was still clueless. His head titled with confusion as she spoke again, what's so wrong and about moms knowing things?

"Wha's she gunna know? That tha's been ou'? Whuts thee ma'er wif goin' ou'?"

The green eyed pup squinted hard, his mom let him go where he pleased without a care in the world, but except for today, he didn't stray more than a few feet from her side. Perhaps these hyenas were some kind of strange hyenas...

Blinking once more, she seemed almost afraid of how crazy the pup acted. He was nothing like her mother, nor the father she barly met. The only other one she could connect him to is her half brother, a strange blue hyena that seemed excited to greet each day. Maybe Bacia had just gotten the wrong personality along with her Y chromosome.

"Mamma pr'tects me." She told him softly in responce to his question, "Pr'tects me wit' rules." Nodding sharply, she saw him fade away with a memory, and took it as her chance. Moving slowly, her eyes once more were covered by her white puff of mane as she inched closer towards the grasses and the protection of her mother once more.

Mabozi beamed once again, his bright, squinty smile projecting towards this new companion. Boy was she a silly one!

"MaMa pertects me too... Bu' nae wif rules, bu' wif herself, her teef! Tha' dunnot need rules ta be safe"

Mabozi stiffled a chuckle, never had he encountered such a clingy critter. Lately, he had been very eager to get away from both his Mother and Tibuka and run around, play a little, he couldn't stand being cooped up all the time, his legs needed to move. He frowned as he saw the other pup inching away, his bright smile fading as his brows furrowed,

"Tha's got nuttin ta be afeared of! Aun'ie's 'round, he'll pertect us from thee lions"

He said that last part rather sternly. Mabozi didn't know of any dangers other than lions, for it was all his mother had been telling him since he could hear. 'Stay away from the lions, they want to murder you, and me too.' This prospect scared Mabozi, he didn't want to get murdered, even more, he didn't want anything happening to his MaMa. But thankfully, they were both safe as far as he knew, so he had a peace of mind there.

Finding herself becoming caught, the small youthful pup lowered her head and felt her ears drop. It appeared that the one time she got away, all she wanted to do was go back with her mother once more. Finding herself completly lost at the comments, all she could get out was the word lions, and suddenly her eyes snapped onto his own.

"Hush!" She said forcefully, before pouncing and slamming him to the ground with sheer luck. Pinning him so she could whisper, her small form clearly shook with either fear or anger, she had no clue as of yet.

"Please, be silent..." The plea was soft as she waited for any sign of movement around them, just like her mother taught her.

Suddenly, Mabozi was on the ground, the wind mostly knocked out of him from the impact of the other pup. As soon as he caught his breath though, he errupted in giggles. They were loud at first, but he remembered Bacia's pleas, and he muffled them significantly by smushing his front paws into his muzzle as he lay belly-up on the ground. What a game!

When his giggles subsided, he lowered a paw from his muzzle and looked quizzically to the female, tilting his head lightly. His emerald eyes gazed sternly into her ruby ones, his voice still as a whisper as he spoke,

"Whas tha' gettin' all riled up bou'?"

"My mamma!" She exclaimed in a harsh whisper, looking at him like he was an idiot. Clearly, the other hyena did not take the hint about her wanting him to be silent. Shaking her head, she finally continued on and gave the cruitial point that should have been said earlier.

"She is over ther'!" As she jumped off of his form, she lifted her small paw and pointed to where she had origionally came from, before quickly setting her paw back down. She had to be careful, considering she had little balance to move upon.

Mabozi frowned lightly, his eyes narrowing and gazing to where Bacia had pointed. He flipped himself over, standing back up and trotting to her side, continuing to gaze for a good couple of minutes.

"Tell tha' thee truth, I dun see nuttin'"

He took another careful look. Nope, noone that he could see. Though the idea that pup's mother was sleeping had totally flown over his head. The faded, as his head whipped around and he shrugged lightly.

"If tha's MaMa is ovur thur, why dun we go ovur /thur/!"

He pointed his small nose to where her mother allegedly was and then turned his head, pointing in the direction quite opposite of where Bacia's sleeping mother lay. Mabozi grinned, his chest puffing up proudly, that was the best idea he had ever had... Not to mention the first idea he had ever had...
