I don't know if anything like this have been posted before since I'm kinda new here..so I'll beg your pardon now if this was already discused in the past.

Don't you just hate it when people say things like, "That's gay!" which they mean is " That's wrong/weird". I hate it when they say that, I mean, not only it's offensive to gay people, they also don't know how to use it right..What do you think?

I despise it. When My friends do it, I hit them. When others do it, I either yell or glare.

I don't like it. I used to make a big fuss, but my other gay friends didn't mind it so I mellowed...gradually.

It depends on who's saying it. I can be extremely annoyed or offended, sometimes it doesn't bother me too much. But overall, I don't like it's existance. I've heard the argument from some who use the phrase that they aren't saying it to put down homosexuals; that it's only joking around. Whatever meaning they may have when they use it, it's still offensive. To equate homosexuality with stupidity is an insult, no matter what the person claims to mean.

With that said, I don't feel it's always necessary to be vocal about my thoughts on the matter, in some situations it's just not worth fighting over.

I make my point by using "straight" as a worse insult. wink

i usually end up saying, "oh yeah, well -you're- a cigarette..." then get confused glances....

actually that happens a lot no matter what i say... sweatdrop

edit: god i'm tired and drunk...i meant that as a response to "what a f**"...it just translated itself in my head at that moment....that happens...

This badly annoys me, I hear it at least 500 times a day and I cringe every time it passes through my ears. Gay is not a synonym for stupid, go get a dictionary, ********. It's so common I don't even bother argue with people over it. When people say "thats gay!" I usually just sarcastically say something like "Yes.. its distinctively homosexual" *rolls eyes*

I hate how weve seemed to have become an adjective that describes a level of stupidity. Its really annoying when my best of friends use it around me and I ask them to stop... "Dude thats just Guy..." Its like omg what the $@%!. I dont prance around saying "Dust thats just Asian..." Stupid Bastards n___n;; Hehe :3

I use to do more of the glaring. Since it doesn't do much anyway, I've taken to just gritting my teeth or reminding the person.

I don't think we'll ever be able to truly phase it out, another smudge on a page of history.

I tend to ask politely, even when it's people I don't know. This has resulted in some success, some scary confrontations, but most of the time I'm just ignored. Actually, I think it's harder when it's someone of the lgbt community. It's very hard to convince them that there's something wrong with it if they don't believe so.

There also seems to be a small trend in pretending to be PC while still using it as an insult. I've actually heard people being confronted about it and they will protest that they are using "gei" or "ghey" as if that makes it any better. A sad excuse if I ever heard one.

Again, it's beyond repair or phasing out now that it has spread so far. Derogatory terms have a tendency to come back into popularity, even among the groups theat vehemently opposed them before, "reclaiming" it (was this what you were talking about, Astri?). It all boils down to intent, but I think we all understand how easy it is to misunderstand such things.

I just ignore it...Our GSA was out to stop it for a while, but at that time I used to say it all the time (yes, I know how odd that must seem) and so I'd sit in our meetings and say, "Wow, that is gay." Now if I'm in a bad mood and someone says, "that is sooooo gay!" I just turn and say something like, "So is your face." in a really bland, monotone voice or I'll just glare.
