commenting only on the pics because i'm worthless like that.
The pattern fills look cheap and don't work with your drawing style anyway. I generally wouldn't go for anyt particularly detailed or complex coloring or patterns when the idea behind your drawing style is more graphic, bold and simple.
if you want bricks, draw them yourself using your style so that it fits the image.
I mixed about the tones on the monsters..But my gut feeling is leaning towards no...then again, it might be alright if you just got rid of those bricks. i think i really hate them XD
Her's another thought, if on the dragons your's going for the scaly patter, wht no go all the way and use some sort of texture on the other parts, the tongue and the spikes and the etc.
i would also advise against photoshop lighting effects being used at all. They're too easy to identify as photoshop and dont give your images a very professional feel to them.

BACK AWAY FROM THE FILTERS. o.O
...good. Ok. I know I myself have been horrifically guilty of filter use too, so I understand. But it really does not look good. Your line art alone would look much better (and more professional) than the coloring you have right now. Especially the brick. The brick is painful. Also, how do they print these things? As far as I'm aware, everything I've seen from Tokyopop has been black and white. If for this contest the end product will be printed black and white, you'd be better off coloring them black and white.
As for the story, the premise seems decent, but the flow is choppy and kind of rushed. I figure maybe some dialogue tweak? Writing admittedly isn't my forte.

I have to switch to screentones for the comic (bah I hate screentones), but I'll keep that in mind for whenever I do another colored picture...
I posted the characters for comments on their appearance... my sister hates Bert's hair cut and demands I change it... >_>
Hmm... I'll try to fix the flow... I'm not very good with flow...
