Me, I'd make all the phans burst in as Christine's about to kiss erik, and kidnap him,,,,,

Christine: WTF. YOU STOLE MY KISS.... DAMN YOU!
Raou: X_X *dies because noone frees him*

It's a musical. In Opera, someone could be dying from a gunshot to the heart or sword-jab to whatever that could automatically kill them. But they sing about it and their regrets first before giving the grand falling over and playing dead.

It's just theater. They have to dramatisize everything, even someone being gagged. And basically, Raoul wasn't the focal point. So he just kinda was the "backseat driver" to the song and therefore no one gave a flying flip that he was choking and singing at the same time.

This may not be PotO-related, but at least it's post-being-quoted-related. I saw Romeo and Juliette (the opera) and in the last scene I was like "COME ON!!! DIE ALREADY!!!"
Seriously, they "died" for, like, twenty whole minutes.

Oh yes. That is always happening. I remember seeing the death seen in [insert name here]'s Wedding. (I can't remember the name. I wanna say Giovanni, but I know I'm wrong. Plus this was years ago) and the daughter of some old guy was just going on and on and on, then she died. And then her father went on and on and on about her dying. XD

That sounds like Rigoletto, I think. (Fun opera, that. I need to listen to it again.)

It's also along the same lines of La Traviatta as the female lead is dying of consumption and still manages to sing the entire opera. Though, in just as many theatre productions that do that, there are just as many that have their characters die immediately: the title character in Carmen and all of the characters in Tosca (Scarpia gets stabbed without a word, Mario gets shot without a word, Tosca doesn't sing a note when she hits the pavement). I'm sure there's more, but my mind is blanking right now.

It's the suspension of belief that makes theatre so successful. That's why they can get away with all these sorts of things.

Oh of course. I theatre, ANYTHING can happen! The sky is the limit. It's theatre, not reality TV.

His feet were underwater, and about two inches off the bottom of the lake. He couldn't do much. (Unless he pushed his arms down because they were tied to the gate, and it would lift him up a little...)
