Me and my guitat teacher just started learning alot of darkside of the moon songs. And up until the other day, I didnt know what the album was about. According to my guitar teacher, its about all the things that (modern) man goes through. Breath, i think, is birth. time is about growing up, maybe a midlife crisis, being afraid you got a bad start. Money's meaning is obvious. Us and them is about war. Brain damage is about growing old, or being, well, brain damaged. I think great gig in the sky is about sex.

It has very mixed messages. In a sense, it is about the goings on of life. In anothere since, it was set exactly to 'The Wizard of Oz'.

Wrong the entire Album is about going against what you and others believe and forging your own path to exsist not persist to live not to be lived

Vodka totally subjective to the listener it does depend on who is listening... Breathe On The Run Time Great Gig in the Sky Money Us and Them Any Colour You Like Brain Damage Eclipse that is the order of the songs...and I am not religious at all, I'm actually athiest, so to me it seems like at first everything is in its place, then things become hectic and the "person" if you will runs (on the run) from all of the bad things, and as they are running, they think about things that they haven't been through yet, such as growing old (Time), sex (Great Gig in the Sky), being rich/midlife crisis (Money), war (Us and Them), being mentally ill (Brain Damage), and the end of the world (Eclipse). Note I skipped over Any Colour You Like. Just the title of the song makes me think about Mr. Barrett. If you think back to the beginning of the Floyd, you remember they had the liquid slides behind them that changed color to any color that they really wanted to. Also, it seems Syd's mind may've done the same thing, just floating around after he lost his mind to insanity or drug abuse. Just looking at the names of the songs also hints at these different things, although some of the lyrics don't relate.

Here is my opinion.
Breathe is supposed to be about birth, that's correct. Then the other things are about all of the pressures that life puts upon you, ending with Brain Damage, as those things corrupt you with insanity.
On the Run, from what I have heard, is supposed to be about how a man is running to catch up with a plane. He misses it. Then another person, probabley on the plane, begins laughing as the sound of an engine failing and a plane spiraling to the ground. He is probabley laughing because he realizes all of these pressures now and that he will be free of them. Then it crashes. Then the footsteps happen again, showing that, if that man had been on the plane, he would have died.
Time is obvious.
Great Gig in the Sky. Okay, this is a difficult one to interperet, since there are no lyrics, just the wailing of the girl. So, it could be about sex, but I think it could be about the death of someone else.
Money is obvious as well.
Us and Them is, I believe, is about racism and war. I think I may have heard something about racism in some sort of interview or something, but the rest of it is rather obvious.
Any Color You Like is difficult, considering there is not even sound clips, just music.
Then Brain Damage and Eclipse are about the final stages of going mad.
