I really want to try sueding Key but I don't want to use real suede. What do I use then? If I were to walk into Michaels or AC Moore what would I be looking for?

I sueded my dream of doll boy on Sunday, and I just used the stickyback moleskin that I had handy (so his wigs fit nice and snug).

Why not use real suede?
I think you could use some sort of thick fabric that's about the consistency of suede. I'm not sure though.
I think there's something about sueding in the DoA FAQ section?

Yeah I read that on DoA which is what got me to where I think I'm actually ready to try it. But they suggest real suede and I'm one of those crazy pro-animal rights folks that doesn't wear/use stuff made of animals.
I had a few people on the CP LJ community suggest moleskin so that's what I'm going to go get today after work.

Good luck! I'm tempted to suede Dei and En~Ki. They need it so badly.
Please tell me how it goes!

I hate putting Key's legs back on! My hands always hurt for days afterwards!
So I used moleskin, the self adhesive kind at that! It worked so-so. He stands a lot better but I think I need to work on his right leg a little more, it still has a habit of kicking upward. His left one is actually pretty good though, I'm impressed.
Over all it was easy and cheap to do. And when I fiddle with his right leg I'll more than likely just bend his joints open rather than take his leg apart.

Ooh! That's sounding pretty easy then... I might do it if I can figure out how to suede Dei's many joints.

When my boy gets here, suedeing him is going to be a must. I've laredy picked up some light-grey colored suede that's very thin but sturdy.

when buying suede, get a thin kind, or buy velvet. the best stuff i've heard of can be bought on ebay, and is called pliver. it's a thin kind of suede. for about a $5 bundle, you could do many, many dolls or redo one many, many times xd
and um, don't get it wet if you can help it whee

Out of curiosity, how important is Sueding? I'm kinda inept at things that require skill *coff* so I'd have to get someone else to suede my doll if I need to get it done.

Aerinna Out of curiosity, how important is Sueding? I'm kinda inept at things that require skill *coff* so I'd have to get someone else to suede my doll if I need to get it done. it really depends on the doll. some dolls stand and hold positions fine, but if yours doesn't, then sueding would be a good idea. as a plus, it also reduces wear on the doll joints

A lot of people use suede (or something similar, like moleskin) to give their doll's joints a little more grip, because the resin is so smooth. It helps the doll to hold poses a little better.
Basically, a piece of the sueding material is placed on either side of the joint, to create a little friction. Like, a little on the ball joint itself, and a little on the socket.
