You know what? I saw the movie and have yet to read the books. How are they in comparison? Pros and cons?

The best thing I can find in the books is the vast amount of biblical symbolism, especially in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. (My favorite, though, are the two books in the series Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.) Has anyone seen the old versions of it they used to show on public broadcast?

`Chloe Sullivan` Lets discuss the Amazing Series written by 'Lord Of the Rings' author J.R.R. Tolkien's Best friend, CS Lewis. You really should try to initiate a discussion rather than spewing topics. I think it will be more... worthwhile. I grew up with the BBC series and I loved it. It was really cheesy, but it was fun anyway. I found that the movie was miles better. I loved it to death and I will definitely be buying the DVD for my kids (when I have some..). My dad read me the books years ago and I don't remember too much. I'm planning to read them again when I go to visit him.

The Chronicles of Narnia happen to be my favorite childhood series, other than A Wrinkle in Time of course (Long live Madeline L'engle..sp?) I thougth the movie was pretty true to the books, as movies go, and that both of them were wonderful. Please do not try to compare this inspirational series to Harry Potter, for they are not even in the same league and I may be forced to take offence.
*Harry Potter is a good book, but compared with the chronicles, it doesn't stand a chance.

Chronicals of Narnia is in my opinion the series that started it all. In terms of series like it of course, Lol.
The Harry Potter series actually has a lot in common with the Chronicals, you just have to look carefully. Still, I'd have to agree with Tempest, Chronicals is simply astounding. I haven't found a series yet even close to rivaling it.

I think both Lord of the Rings and Narnia are both considered the forerunners of today's modern fantasy genre. If you look pretty much all books today pay homage to them in some way.

It's a good series... but in my opinion the first book is the best and it kind of goes downhill from there. They get much more complicated for what's supposed to be a childrens book set.

I loved this series so much. My favorite books were the first and the last, the beginning and the end. I think C.S. Lewis was at his best when he wrote those. They were written so beautifully. I don't really read the boosk for the symbology; I just love the stories and the creatures and people of that magical place Narnia.
