Forgotten's Name: Nevin
Forgotten's Gender: Male
Daemon's Name: Fools
Daemon's Species: Baku (Head of a lion, body of a horse, and tail of a cow)
Forgotten's Appearance (Physical): Slightly gaunt, wears a pair of small, sleek, black-framed glasses which accentuate the black in his gold-flecked irises. He has dark, slightly frizzy brown hair, most of which he puts in a ponytail ending at his mid-back, but a few short, undisciplined strands hang in front of his face. These bangs and the tips in the ponytail are dyed black. Nevin is olive-skinned and usually covered in cuts and bruises from following around his adventurous daemon.
This forgotten usually dresses in long, modest clothes in shades of black and gray except for bright accessories on his hands, feet, and head, which are dyed(sometimes even tie-dyed)in shades of green or blue.
Forgotten's Appearance (Traits): Nevin has a habit of staring off to one side or the other when people talk to him, but even though he seems unfocused he is always... listening. However, despite this apparent interest in the lives of others and the knowledge they have, he doesn't seem to be too interested in people themselves, at least on a personal level. He seems a bit standoffish, despite his calm, relaxed demeanor.
Daemon's Appearance (Physical): Fools is a large animal; when full grown she will be somewhere between the size of a male lion and an adult cow. The golden mane adorning her lion's head and neck fades to a light brown around her bulky equine body, turning into shaggy horse's hair. At the tail, the color changes again as the soft strands become creamy, coarse cow's hair ending in a black tuft. Fools' eyes are a cloudy green-gray, and seem to stare hard enough to see, forming, misty in the mind, the dreams which her species is said to eat.
Daemon's Appearance (Traits): Fools is almost always laughing, though at points she seems almost frustrated that she is not able to communicate out loud. She understands that it is simply not done, but part of her has always questioned why. She is a very active creature, rarely sitting still even when her forgotten reads for long hours. Her body always seems tensed to run or jump, and her eyes dance with an energy not found in her Forgotten.
Forgotten's Personality: Nevin is rather superstitious, believing that black is a joyous color and that wearing bright things on certain parts of his body will accentuate the traits from those appendages. He is fascinated with ancient cultures and will often spend hours in the Library, or any library, reading books on Egypt or Greece or Rome, especially those pertaining to ancient religions. Although he tries to pride himself on a cool-head and analytical thinking, Nevin will often jump headfirst into situations where his daemon is, or even when she only might be, in danger. He is exceptionally polite and a good listener, but this Forgotten can be distant or even downright chilly when it comes to being generous or helping those besides his soulmate.
Daemon's Personality: Fools is always ready for a challenge, a romp, anything that might involve an adventure. She is extremely social and lives in the moment, constantly nagging her Forgotten to get some sun or eat something or meet soandso who is so nice once you get to know them. She takes pride in the fact that she is a creature of good luck, and worries little about her own health an welfare, as long as she is having a good time. Noble and fearless, she is always ready to defend
anyone in danger, not matter who they might be.
Excerpt: Ahead was the everyday stink of the world.
"You know," said Lord Vetinari after a few moments, "it has often crossed my mind that those men deserve a proper memorial of some sort."
"Oh yes?" said Vimes in a noncommittal voice. "In one of the main squares, perhaps?"
"Yes, that would be a good idea."
"Perhaps a tablea in bronze?" said Vimes. "All seven of them raising the flag, perhaps?"
"Bronze, yes," said Vetinari.
"Really? And some sort of inspiring slogan?" said Vimes.
"Yes, indeed. Something like, perhaps, 'They Did The Job They Had To Do'?"
"
No," said Vimes, coming to a halt under a lamp by the crypt entrance. "How
dare you? How dare you! At this time! In this place! They did the job they didn't have to do, and they died doing it, and you can't give them anything. Do you understand? They fought for those who'd been abandoned, they fought for one another, and they were betrayed. Men like them always are. What good would a statue be? It'd just inspire new fools to believe they're going to be heroes. They wouldn't want that. Just let them be. For ever."
How does the excerpt affect the pair?: Fools is unperturbed, content to be one of the "Fools and Heroes" to which the excerpt refers. However, Nevin is deeply worried, by both the excerpt and the way that his daemon's name appeared in that excerpt. While he is not afraid of dying for those he cares for, he is terrified of being one of those left behind to mourn.
What does it reveal about.. .. their past?: Nevn once had seven younger brothers. They were all hopelessly devoted to people in general, so when the country went to war all seven of them were sgned up in a heartbeat. Niven's inherent distrust of people kept him from volunteering and intensified when his siblings died in battle. His mind lashed out in prejudice against "fools who would die for a man who spits on his own mother's grave." He became bitter and reclusive, equating kindness and sacrifice to idiocy.
.. how they are now that they are "reborn" as a Forgotten?: The boy has kept some of his cynical views of heroism, but they are softened now that he has his Fools. He doesn't remember much aobut his previous life, but he does feel a sense of grave importance in keeping Fools safe and out of danger.
.. their future?: Being highly superstitious, Nevin suspects to a certain extent that Fools will come to harm because of heroic idiocy. However, he hardly considers the possiblility that there might be others whom he cares for that make a sacrifice, or even Nevin himself.
Powers, talents, special traits?: Nevin has control over sound, particularly dampening or silencing it, but some minor amplification and tonal control as well. He has a gift for languages and absolute pitch, allowing him to read ancient books and play the cello rather well. Fools, being a baku, can expell nightmares from her Forgotten, disrupt his sleep, or even keep him from slumbering at all. She also has a minor sense of empathy(though this may just be her social nature and wase around others).
Other important qualities: Nevin sees rather badly without his glasses, and Fools shares a bit of his nearsightedness, though she can usually operate despite it.
Other important concept details: Not that I can think of, but if anything occurrs to you, feel free to ask about it. ^^
