It's a rather pleasant morning on the island today, barring the fact that the sun had only just risen and it's already quite hot. There are no signs of anything that remotely resembles a cloud, and the breeze isn't strong enough to provide any comfort.

All in all, it's a perfect morning for Alva Borghild to take a morning walk in a newly-altered dress.

It's predominantly gray in color, with a neckline low enough to expose the woman's well-defined collarbones. The sleeves have all but been cut off- only the shoulders remain. But the worst thing about this outfit (and the thing that would drive that damned man insane) is the fact that her dark green skirt is cut so short as to expose plenty of her ankles, which are very pale and well-toned.

Hopefully her routine stroll would go without any tall, asinine men interrupting it.

Chris has always been an early riser, and nothing could ever really change this. Awake as the sun had begun to rise, the young girl had prepared herself for the day and was now wandering about, outside of the boarding house.

Being as it was so early still, she had little concern over other people being out and about. The sun was warm. Quite a bit more than Chris had become accustomed to back at her home. A shawl drapes over her shoulders as she looks around, still rather awestuck by the land in this place.

Begining off away from the boarding house, Chris quickly made her way towards a path. It looks slightly worn, meaning that people probably followed along it quite commonly. In such a case, it couldn't hurt to follow it herself.

The awe that Chris feels about this place is present in Alva, though it's in the form of irritation. Yes, the scenery's nice, but seeing so much wild greenery ceases to be amazing after a few days and quickly becomes background to the less positive aspects, like the contant buzzing of overly large insects. There's a few remains of at least four different species of flying insect who were unfortunate enough to stray too far on the leather flap of the woman's cropwhip by now, despite her efforts to scrape them off. Hopefully some water would help.

Her irritation turns into intrigue as eyes that can probably see a flea from a mile away spot a person on a path that she uses herself in her walks. Her mind isn't completely clouded by traditional gender roles, so she immediately discerns this person as another woman... interesting.

She hums lowly, but makes no move to call out to this other woman- she doesn't feel the need to draw attention like that. Though she is curious as to what this person is like, so she approaches her- much like a spider closing in on freshly caught prey.

When a good talking distance is reached, Alva says, "I didn't think that Alphonse would actually allow women on the island. You must have a very interesting story behind how you got here."

Oblivious as the other woman approaches, Chris turns her head quickly to the sound of a voice, letting out a startled "Oh!".

Turning her body completely she gives a quick, short curtsey and nods her head slightly. "I apologize, I didn't hear you coming." she starts slowly, drawing out the words and letting her eyes take in the person before her.

Another woman. Well, this was actually a wonderful thing in her books. She was more than pleased she was not the only one. One thing strikes her funny, however, as she looks to this woman.

Her manner of dress.

It most certainly wasn't typical. However Chris let's it slip through her mind and away. Her manner of dress was not typical, no.

Nor was this island.

"I suppose you could say that... he was under the impression it would be my husband coming, and not myself."

Alva's first impression is that this woman is very well-mannered... perhaps a little too well-mannered. A... typical woman, sadly enough.

Regardless, an odd little smirk that suggests she's happy to meet this other woman finds itself on her face. "Ah, there's no need for apology or such formality," she replies, obviously not inclined to return the curtsy. "If I startled you, well... I learned to be very careful with my walking early in my life, and have always been rather quiet when I move." A slant apology, maybe?

"Your husband, you say?" An eyebrow arches with obvious intrigue. "Well, I won't inquire beyond that." She nods as a way of formal introduction. "My name is Alva Borghild."

If Moreau had been decieved by not one, but two women... well, either the man is very stupid, or both of the women involved are very cunning.

"I see." Chris smiles politely as she listens to Alva speak. "Well Miss Borghild, it is nice to meet you. My name is Chris Dawes." she offers the return of her own name, inwardly chastizing herself for not introducing herself in the first place.

Chris was quick to pick up on the fact that, this woman was likely anything but formal. The way she spoke seems to to her that she is someone in charge. Very much unlike the women she had known back in England.

However, with this slight inclination, she allowed her posture to relax and the weight of total formality slip away.

"Borghild..." she repeated again slowly, "I have never heard such a surname before. May I inquire as to where you are from?"

"Alright then Mi...err, Alva." she catches herself as she speaks. Years of having such things drilled into ones head are not easily left to sit on the sidelines.

"Norway?" her face seems to brighten with the notion, "I've heard bits and pieces of stories from there. My father once had a few friends stay with us who had been there. They said it was quite lovely there, but rather cold." not that she should have been listening in on her father's conversations with his friends, but Rachelle had dared her to do it at the time.

"Either way, it sounded much better than boring old London."

"I do love Norway very much," Alva says, obviously reminiscing. "It's true that it's very cold, but when you live in the cold all your life it becomes a dear part of it. And I enjoy the cold naturally, so I was meant to be there." Pity I'll probably never see cold weather again... Such a statement might incline someone to ask why she left in the first place.

A chuckle escapes from her throat on the mention of London. "Oh, much better, indeed. London is an awful, torturous, oppressive place, as is the whole of England." With each adjective, she lightly flicks the cropwhip she always holds at her side in emphasis. "I don't understand how people can live entire lives there."

Chris thinks on Alva's words for a few moments, mulling over the reasoning. Her eyes roved upwards as she thinks.

"For the same reason you say that you, from the sounds of it, could have lived happily in Norway all your life." she begins, "You were meant to be there." she pauses for a moment.

"Some people were suited for the lifestyle in which London and England offer I suppose... and," she laughs, "some people simply don't get the pleasure of knowing what else is out there... so I guess if it's all you know there's little you can do about it."

There's a bit of rustling outside the fence, but Alva doesn't pay any attention to it, as rustling noises outside the fence are not entirely uncommon.

Chris's bit of philosophizing brings about a mildly amused smile on the older woman's face. "Wise words, indeed," she chuckles softly. "It appears that you may be more intelligent than most women allow themselves to be. I think I might like you, though it's a bit early to be certain of that." Which is quite a statement from such a woman, and a first on this wretched isle. Alphonse would probably have conniptions if he heard me say this!

Cracking the fingers on her free hand, she continues with a laugh, "We both must be aware that there are many places more suitable than England if we decided to go all the way out here."

"Hmm, thank you, I think." Chris gives a light chuckle, ignoring the slight sound in the distance.

"Touche." she stretches her arms up as she looks around. "It is a bit... far out now isn't it? It does not seem so bad I suppose." looking around for a moment, she spots a larger stone and lets herself settle down upon it.

Nettling her fingers together over her knee, she took a quick glance around. Smiling, she simply continued, "I see you enjoy early mornings as well?"

"Oh, I believe that this place can be awful at some times, and... more than tolerable at others," Alva muses. "It's just like any other place, really, once one gets past the complete lack of civilization." She smirks an odd little smirk. "Though it is safe to say that it's a bit far out." Holy crap, she made a joke. Chris must be quite a high level of likable! Though that doesn't mean she's about to sit down on a rock, even though it's probably more comfortable than the chairs in her room.

Chris's observation brings about an eye-crinkling smile in the older woman. "Early mornings have been a part of my routine since I was just a girl," she says. "I don't think I could ever allow myself to wake up late."

"Hmm, yes, I suppose so." Chris listens as Alva speaks, taking in the other woman's thoughts with careful consideration, then laughing finally.

"Indeed, indeed. Ah. Nothing wrong with getting up early. Not at all. I simply could not imagine how some people manage to sleep until the sun is well on it's way out for the day." she sighs lightly.

"Ah well. That's a man for you I suppose."
