Large Stag BeetleScientific Name: Dorcus Curvidens
Appearance: Both male and female Ookuwagatas are black and can reach up to 68mm in length. The males are usually larger than females. The male's mandibles have teeth near the top, with smaller male's teeth pointing toward the base, intermediate male's pointing inward, and larger male's pointing toward the top. The smaller males and the females are shinier and have lines of dots on the back.
Behaviors: The Ookuwagata is a non-aggressive beetle who aren't too fond of extremely humid places.
Predators: Hedgehogs, foxes, stoats, rats, lizards, magpies, anything willing to eat it.
Origin: Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Northeast India, South Korea, and Vietnam.
Habitat: Dry wood areas or fields, the females usually lay their eggs in decaying wood. They're quite popular as pets in the beetle world.
