My Guild has been doing Vael for a couple weeks, we have about 200 FR for casters, and 300+for tanks, we have alot of pallys and warriors, and this is somewhat how the setup looks http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/3411/vaelfights9ge.pngWe have the priests spamming holy nova/prayer of healing if they are in a group for it, and then the others focusing on keeping the tanks alive, the warlocks try to stay forward to give the blood pact buff to the warriors, and then the rouges stay near the hind leg, weve gotten vael to 30k hp.. yea.. that close to killing him.. gonk but the main problem seems to be the tank transitions, we have the lesser tanks using herioc strike-dpsing, and the higher ones sundering and such, when he hits 20% all warriors start excecuting, the main ones as fast as the GC allows, the lessers for a little less often then that, picking up speed as we go.. any problems with our plan that anyone can see?or is it just we need to watch the agro a little bit more probably

This is my guild's Vael video, you can see the tank transitions pretty well in it imo.
video is from 2nd or 3rd tank perspective.

#1: Get everyone in your guild/raid to get ThreatMeters. It shows who has the most threat at the moment, and is a clue for people to stop healing, slow DPS down, etc.
#2: Prayer Of Healing = bad. mad Huge mana down the drain with that spell.
#3: OT1 needs to make sure he is #2 on the aggro list, and if he isn't tell all the rogues, healers, whatever else, to slow down on the damage, DPS, etc., or just stop completely before it causes a wipe. Macros are good for this. If he is not #2 on the aggro list, he needs to spam back and forth between Hero Strike, Revenge, and Sunder.
There is a BWL guide in one of the forums. Read it.

Merciless Deadly Raven #2: Prayer Of Healing = bad. mad Huge mana down the drain with that spell. Hi, you've never been to BWL. Let me explain a few things. You have infinate mana, rage, and energy. Lore wise, this is because Vaelastrasz is corrupted by Nefarion and wants you to kill him, so he gives you a nice buff to assist in this. There is no such thing as STOPPING DPS at Vael. You kill him in under 3 minutes or you die. If someone pulls aggro, and the raid gets breathed on, it's over. It's that simple. Have rogues vanish at 20%, mages use arcane missiles or arcane explosion by the rogues for constant DPS. Make sure to have a holy nova spec priest by the rogues for threat free damage and healing, also it's really awesome if all of your priests are holy nova spec because there is no threat involved in holy nova. Tell your rogues to back off a bit and stop using specials if they crit a lot.

I keep thinking it only applies to rage and energy. /target self /slap
Edit: Anyways, I was told that if rogues take aggro, they need to stop DPS, or at least slow it down so the tank transition goes smoothly. /shrug
It's not my words. It's just what I've read.

If that happens, you already have a whipe.
As an aside, have your paladins/shamans constantly spam the tank with LoH/LHW, they have the fastest heals and no real options to keep whole parties up, so they are at their best at tank healing in this fight. 3nodding

Yea, Im gonna suggest the Threat Meter thing for a little better control, but other than that weve been doing most of the things that have been said.
