THE LEGEND
Fate. No one wants to accept that their lives are predetermined. No one wants to accept that their choices are not, in fact, choices at all. The truth can be hard to swallow.
In the days when humankind was young and the gods still intervened on a regular basis, many tried to escape their fate. They tried to change the ending of their tale.
Frustrated, the gods convened. At the end of their meeting, they had swelled their ranks by one more. A warrior goddess, she was charged with enforcing the whims of Fate. She was assisted by legions of small creatures, some more amenable to being commanded than others.
She was a successful solution for eons, until she met her own Fate at the hands of another god. Charged with upholding Fate, she made no attempt to defend herself.
Her followers, unaware of her death, continue to conduct her rituals. Nails driven into a pillar of wood in her temple on the first day of each year. They are a symbol of how Fate is unchanging and fixed.
And now, she has been one of the ones selected by whatever fickle council decided who would become a Legend and receive their second chance. }}
