He sighed. What was the point of this again?

"Lonan, quit that. I can hear you all the way over here. And that's saying something."

Mentally slapping himself at allowing such a noise to be noticed he got up and moved to the supply boxes. He didn't like crowds. But he couldn't really object to what Draconayzia had set in motion. She was, afterall, giving him a place to live with no strings attached. He knew she wouldn't force him to stay if he really didn't want to. But he believed in being fair. And this was supposed to be a welcome back affair for Devmani as well as a chance for him to get to know more individuals like himself. And she was using the blanket excuse of the fact Spring had arrived and the entire orchard was in flowering blooms. The scent from them nearly overwhelmed him the first time he'd walked out here.

He'd heard of them breifly through Elle. Apparently Draocnayzia had taken it from there. Trust her nose to put her on the scent of anything magical. Literally. He still didn't know how she could detect a kind of magic, that was beyond anything that even made remote sense.

And she wasn't going to explain.

All he knew was that now invitations had been sent out and he was asked to help. And he couldnt' say 'no'. Ah well.

"Where do you want these things?"

Elle paused at the edge of the Hollow, one hand against the telling bark of an old tree. She could just see Lonan, through the branches...and without a sound, she stood for a moment to comtemplate him. He looked like the ghost of an exotic shadow, splashed in contrast upon the bright scene.

Kudzu shifted slightly in his sling against her waist, trying to peer over the edge. Why had they stopped? The babe was enjoying their walk, surrounded by the smell of the fresh blooms and green leaves. The slight wind rustled his verdant hair quietly, a petal from his temple catching upon the breeze.

Against Elle's other hip, a large willow basket rested. A multitude of blossoms filled it, newly picked and all ready to seed. They'd be perfect for weaving crowns, and she had a handful of snowdrops already set aside for Lonan.

Not only Lonan...other colors, and other guests expected. Her stomach filled with warm excitement, mellow and rich. It was times such as these, she realized, that were the brightest in life. Content, Elle stepped forward and made her way toward Drac...though her eyes stayed longest upon Lonan.

"Enough for almost a dozen. What do you think?" Giving the basket a bounce, and the baby in the process, Elle fluffed the blossoms for the lady of the house. Kudzu simply gurgled, spotting a flash of silver, and reached for Drac with one open hand.

"AH! Elle, good to see you! Maybe you can get Mr. Mopey over there to actually enjoy the air for a bit."

Her words were puncuated by a timely sneeze from the youth. She laughed.

"My apologies Lonan. I'm in high spirits and I get a bit.... off when I'm this happy. Now let me take the darling for a little bit and you can see to Lonan. I bet Kudzu is excellent at picking bloosoms from trees for a bit of color, eh?" Still grinning she delicately plucked the child from the sling and tucked him into her tail. A blooming branch was brought down for him to inspect, her tickling green cheeks with the soft blooms.

Lonan gave a soft sigh, though thankfully not resigned, and walked over to Elle. His tone was a bit lighter to anyone that knew him. Otherwise it was the same flat monotone. "I'm glad you came."

Leaning forward to give Drac a brief kiss on the cheek, Elle handed Kudzu over gratefully. The babe settled against her with a quiet noise, gazing up at the branch with wide and pale eyes. What was this now?! He glanced for a moment at Elle's retreating form...his caretaker was easy to spot in her simple white shift.

Setting the basket in the grass, Elle stepped up to Lonan....bare foot as always. The flowers could wait, greetings were best done with both arms. "Thanks for having us. I brought something to help decorate." Tucking one white bloom at the base of his right wing as she slipped her arms around him, Elle offered him a full length hug.

"Something on your mind?" A small bottle hung from a ribbon about her waist, swinging as she slipped back slowly from the hug. He certainly didn't look mopey to Elle...in fact, his face was a warm and welcome sight, as was the brightly gilded Hollow.

Laughing happily she waggled the flowers in front of him. "Just for you sweetie." She'd pluck a bit of the branch for him to keep. It would root afterall, and Elle might be able to plant her own tree near her home if she liked.

His face was immobile as ever, only the tension leaving so he looked thoughtful rather than overtly cautious and indrawn. "Oh? What?" His voice trailed off in confusion, feeling something odd wound between his feathers. It tickled in a sense, making the skin around it shiver.

He leaned readily into her embrace, returning it as well as he could, wings and all. Keeping the folds of black and crimson around her he let his cheek rest against her, a soft contented sigh leaving his lips.

"Not especially." He wouldn't voice his worries over the people coming to the Hollow. It was meant as a celebration and he would not ruin that. He could tollerate people for a time after all. Otherwise he'd never be able to go out and get what he needed.

He noticed the bottle as much as he noted the fabric she was wearing and how warm she felt from her walk there. Just having her to hold again was a gift.

Around his wrist was the bracelet she had given him, glittering between two straps of leather on his bracer.

Little fingers questing along the branch, Kudzu peered at it serenely. Healthy, a distant part of him noted. Healthy was good. Stretching in the sun for a moment, the babe pushed one fist against his mouth as he yawned. This was a good place!

Smiling at the mute acceptance she felt vaguely surround Lonan, Elle stayed close. It was so comfortable in his arms. If there wasn't so much to be done, she'd risk Lonan's pale skin with a nap in the sun...or perhaps that was Kudzu's wish, pure and drifting. Either way, it wasn't a bad idea.

Always time for that another day. Today was special. Finding Lonan's hand with her own, Elle let their fingers entwine. "How are you? Ah, and Devi...?" It had been so long since she'd seen the young centaur...it would be good to see him home safe.

Drac had planned for some small company, just in case. A bastinet was hanging from a sturdy branch. This cradle would fall only when the tree did. Settling Kudzu in it with a soft blanket and a few flowers she smiled. The muted sunlight filtering through made him look like a little cherub.

Feeling her fingers twine with him left him feeling content in a way that he'd never known before her. And a way that he'd never let go if he could help it.

"Devmani is.... large. And fine. He came back and is fit as ever, but has taken to his own home not far away. Perhaps a mile or so. You can ask him yourself. Devi." There was slight amusement in his tone as he spoke to someone just behind Elle's back.

"Ah, still caught me. 'Lo Elle." He was grinning, hair loose and flying everywhere in an errant breeze. On his back were a few packs of things for the party, folding lounges and such as well as a large container of iced punch.

When he stood up one nearly hurt their neck trying to look him in the eye. His shoulder was even with Elle's. His equine shoulder that is. The rest of him just towered. And the marks on his back had cleared into a perfect arrow outlined in silver. He looked, complete.

Kudzu stared up at the canopy overhead, eyes wide and spell bound. What a lovely place to rest! A light, keening noise of contentment left him...like a quiet kettle cooling once again upon the stove. Dappled sunlight caught in the facets of his varied skin, and sent bright blue rainbows across the skin of the solid tree.

Elle stiffened a bit, though more in surprise than startlement. One hand still entwined with Lonan's, she turned with a ready smile...healthy pink high in her cheeks. Her friend had changed, indeed...the creature that stood before her faded the memory of him into a colt. He was magnificent, and at peace.

"Devmani." Giving Lonan's hand one more promising squeeze, she slipped from him long enough to face her old friend. She had changed as well, since their last meeting...her character had deepened in every expression and curve from her slight and green youth. The same was true of Devi, and she held back no longer. "Your tale has grown as surely as you have. It's good to see you, and I can't wait for a quiet evening for us all to share. Lonan mentioned you have your own abode, now?"

Rising onto her toes, as tall as she could stretch, Elle raised her arms towards her old friend's shoulders for a long awaited embrace. Even as she did, her eyes moved just beyond him into the trees...with hope of a glimpse, and a ready smile just in case, for the sweet Stag that used to shadow him so dearly.

Drac laughed with delight, tickling the small nose with a bloom before letting him play as she set up the rest of the lanterns in the orchard. Just enough to cast light if the gathering went on late.

"Hello again! And yes, I do. You and Lonan are welcome to come up some evening in the future." Grinning he lifted her up for a quick hug. Noticing where she was looking he chuckled, leaning forward a bit to whisper. "He comes out after dark now. Maybe he'll be here later, at the fringes."

Lonan had let her hand go reluctantly when Devmani moved to pick Elle up. He wouldn't complain. There had been an ache in him when he'd left. It was less now, but still there. Time would ehal it and he would not be the one to deny him friends.

"Staying for a while this time?" The soft voice was picked up by sharp ears.

"If I can. And make sure you treat this lovely creature well." That said he carefully set Elle down back near Lonan.

"I'll just set some of these up and be right back." Trotting over to the cradle in the tree he stopped to make sure the babe had a blanket before setting up the lounges in a comfortable circle.

"His story is going to be a long one." There was no question in the words, only a quiet statement of truth.

Catching her breath as the ground fell away briefly beneath her feet, wrapping her arms tighter, Elle settled back to the grass laughing after the welcome hug. She was a creature of the earth, of cluttered comfort and snug security...something that Devi's energy had always thrown into sharp contrast. Nodding at his words of the Stag, Elle stepped backwards into Lonan's circle once again.

"Soon, then. I'll look this evening for you and yours!" Elle watched as Devi closed the distance to Kudzu, turning to face Lonan with the full glow of her unseen smile.

"As for his story, I'm sure it will. As will be ours." With that, Elle rose a bit to press her lips gently to the corner of Lonan's mouth...not wishing to cause him embarrassment before his family, but unwilling to resist at least a simple kiss.

Across the way, she could hear Kudzu suddenly chime in with a giggle, and Elle settled back to her heels with a laugh. She didn't know if it was the kiss or the visit from Devi that so tickled him, but a happy baby was a beautiful thing.

"Ah, leisure is hard to resist on a day like this. I'll start weaving the crowns...will you join me, or do you have another task?"

A soft look passed over his face at the mention of their stories twinned. A small gasp left him at the sudden pressure of her lips against the side of his. He dind't particularly care taht Drac and Devi were watching, he tilted his head just enough to catch her in a true kiss. They could snicker as they wanted.

The area was being seen to by Drac and Devi, moving about and putting up the rest of the things that Lonan had organized so neatly.

"I am not needed. And crowns? I've never done that. You'd have to teach me." Still keeping a light hand on her waist the other moved, trying to relocate the basket that had been left near.

Strolling beside her companion, Elle settled down to the grass next to the basket, and patted the seat by her. "The plait is simple, but I hope you aren't prone to allergies!" Pulling color sorted bunches from the basket, Elle arranged them next to Lonan.

"These, the purple ones...then the blue, then the white!" After each was mentioned, Elle offered him a sniff...brushing petals playfully across his cheek. After the delicate white blossoms had been introduced, Elle shifted position...settling against Lonan in the circle of his arms, her back resting comfortably against his chest.

Like this, she settled her hands lightly over his, and demonstrated a simple plait. "After every other crossing, get a new stem and work it in! Ah, it's coming along already." Letting her hands settle along his forearms, Elle watched for a while. She found herself in the most comfortable seat in the house.

Tilting her head back against his shoulder, Elle glanced up into Lonan's pale eyes...contemplating him for several long moments. "Lonan? The others may be arriving soon...there's something of you I'd like to know. Will my affection for Asra make you uncomfortable?"

Her hand smoothed back down his arm as she interrupted his weaving, sliding her fingers between his. Gently, she opened the tie she always felt between them...listening for heartfelt sentiment, but never pushing beyond what Lonan's inner voice offered. It was rare Elle opened as such, but it was an important question, and a more than important answer.

He sat carefully, not wanting to spill either blooms or beauty. Patiently he waited while she set out the various flowers, trailing a careful hand over the stems to help tell apart the different types.

One of the flicker-smiles crossed his face at the gentle teasing. Only once did he actually sneeze from a bloom that seemed particularly determined to polenate the air as much as possible. It also left a faint smudge of gold on his cheek.

Curling into a loose lotus possition he let Elle rest back against him, pulling her to sit in the cradle of his legs while memorizing the motions of her hands. It was tricky at first, the stems making little spacial sense. Then a few passes and things clarified. Then his hands picked up teh pattern easily, never forgetting to add a new stem at the right moment.

His hands paused at the unexpected question, fingers reflexively snugging around her's. "I... I do not know. What I feel for you I know is one-of-a-kind and can't be repeated. But logic seldom comes into play with genetic tendancy, and I will admit to being the male I am. But would you feel jealous, or hurt, for the affection I feel for Draconayzia? Or Devmani?"

Elle coaxed his hands back into the weave as they spoke, repeating the soothing gestures with him. The garland was turning out beautifully...Lonan had a deft hand. "Unless I'm mistaken, you've never taken Drac or Devi as a lover." Though her words could be taken as humorous, Elle didn't sound as though she were teasing. The world was a wide and complex place, and it was not hers to judge.

"My heart speaks for both of you, and I count myself blessed to have found such beautiful souls in such a short stay. My path with Asra is ever a bright crossroads...one that I will not shy from, even as you and I walk our path together. Unless...you ask it of me." The crown was nearly finished. Elle showed him the simple steps to close the weave and unite the ring, and let it settle in her lap as she tilted to more fully face him. "In my mind, love is meant to be shared...but dedication is something that does not arrive like a blossom on the wind, and leave just as easily. So it is with Asra, yet I hope it will never be such between you and I. My path is only complete as long as you walk it with me."

As much as she wished to brush her lips against Lonan's pale cheek, Elle simply sat...content in his arms. This was Lonan's choice, and no distractions were needed. There was nothing hurtful in her words, or so she hoped...just the truth, as she saw it. Asra was a creature of passion, and that passion cast him dancing where Elle felt no need to follow. This was where her heart had settled.

The shock he felt at those words was tanglible. He'd never taken a lover, never truely thought of it either. Around her his arms tightened slightly, resting his chin on her shoulder, brow furrowed in thought. For him to be showing so much thought was a testiment to how much the simple words had rocked him. He also could not hide the faint sting of hurt at the thought of Elle with another. And he felt selfish for it. They had made no promises on that afterall and he felt wrong to hold her to him without one.

"I have met Asra, and he is a bright spark in the world. And kind so far as I've been able to gather, a Day to my Night. But.... I do not know how I would react knowing what I know now. But I would not ask you to give up something you obviously hold so dearly. And you are right, I would not stray from you. I have said so many, many times. Do not give up a treasure you care for only to please me. You deserve your friends. And companions. Whether or not I will always be comfortable should not come into play. We are different people with different tastes. That does not change how I feel for you."

All this was said in a soft, quiet tone near Elle's ear. He was unbalanced and a bit unsure as to what was expected of him now. His emotions so often held in check were wavering between each other. With a firm resolve he clamped down on them. He would not bleed today.
