Information
Name: Choma
Meaning: Burning
Gender: Female
Rank: Alpha
Mate: none
Pups: Quetzalcoatl

Personality: Choma is headstrong, protective, and values nothing more than the survival of herself and those she has taken under her proverbial wing. She is no-nonsense when it comes to matters of importance and is easily flustered and angered when those around her do not take a situation as seriously as it ought to be taken. She becomes quickly confrontational when her authority is challenged by someone she believes may lead her and others into danger and believes heavily in everyone pulling their own weight. Choma, likewise, bears an extreme distrust of humans.

Background: Choma was a typical pup, curious and daring to a fault. Despite repeated rebukes and warnings from the elder wolves of her pack, she and her littermates were often found wandering far from home to explore as far into the woods as they dared. It became a game to them...how far could they go and what new things could they discover before the alphas sent out a pair of searchers to bring the wayward cubs back to the safety of the dens.

Eventually, Choma's luck with this game ran out as one night, she found herself separated from her sisters and on the outskirts of a human camp. The pack had told her many things about these strange creatures. Some found them to be fearsome, destructive beasts that stank of fermenting pork while others were of the mind that the humans were merely misguided and clumsy, but most were well-meaning. Apparantly there were some wolves who had even gone so far as to "adopt" a choice one of them as a contact between their worlds.

The humans Choma ran across were scarcely older than pups themselves and, upon seeing that they had been approached by a wolf, were immediately on their guard. Most wolves kept to the other side of the forest...even the bonded ones were skittish. They did not simply approach campsites fearlessly. Upon noting the brilliant golds, greens, and blues of her pelt one of them voiced that she was a demon in disguise. This notion caught on quickly and escalated as they decided that not only was Choma a demon, but that she had come to curse their village and feed on their souls.

Oblivious to the boys' overactive imaginations fueling their logic, Choma didn't understand what their angry shouts meant. She DID, however, understand the stones they began to pelt her with and turned to flee into the safety of the woods. The youths gave chase and, in a final effort to ward her off, one of them threw his torch after her.

Immediately, they realized their mistake as the blanket of dead leaves and twigs that made the woods' floor began to burn. It spread out of control before it could be contained and, in a panic, the boys fled back to their village to warn the others.

Choma, likewise, panicked. All around the young pup, the heat closed in, filling her nostrils with the scent of smoke, singed fur, sweat, and her own fear. No matter where she tried to run, the fire seemed to have beaten her there. As she raced through a thicket, a blaze-worn tree toppled over, pinning the she-pup beneath it. She was scarcely able to move, and every breath was choked with smoke as she helplessly watched the flames close in.

Wishing them away with all of her might, Choma succombed to the dizziness of the heat and the lack of fresh air.

When she awoke, she was very sore, badly burned, but alive. By something that was nothing short of a miracle, moments after she had lost consciousness, a torrential downpour began, quenching the fire in the process. It may have simply been coincidence. Or perhaps one of the human's shaman's frantic prayers had been answered. Or it may even have been the force of her desire to survive. Whatever the case, Choma had lived.

Finding herself hopelessly lost and unable to scent anything amid the stench of burnt foliage and smoke, she was unable to find her way home. For a time, she remained where she was, whining and yelping piteously in hopes that one of the older members of her pack may hear and come rescue her, but it soon became apparant to her that no one was coming.

From that day forth, she learned that the only person she could, without fail, rely on was herself.

Information
Name: Quetzalcoatl
Meaning: feathered snake
Gender: Male
Rank: Alpha
Mate: none
Pups: none

Personality: As the son of Risen Ashes' alpha, and in line to become an alpha himself, Quetzal has grown a bit of an ego problem. He carries himself with arrogance and pride that, frankly, disgusts some of the others. However, he's not quite a danger to himself or others, so they allow his insolence. When trouble arises, he immediately tries to take charge of the situation. When and if that goes wrong, he can almost always be found hiding behind his mother, waiting for her to fix the problem.

Background: The first-born pup of Risen Ashes' second generation. Quetzalcoatl was the only surviving pup of Choma and Aboki's accidental litter. Because of this, Choma immediately became overly-protective of her only son and immediately began grooming him to rule the pack as alpha alongside her since Aboki flat-out refused her invitation.

Some might say that this early bolstering of confidence has utterly ruined the little pup by bloating his ego irrepairably. He thinks that he can do and get whatever he likes with no fear of reprecussion. However, the older wolves know that, when the time comes, Quetzal might very well realize that his impending alpha role is not all order-barking and swaggering and they hope severely that it will either cause him to grow up, or that he will step down. Time will tell...

Information
Name: Aboki
Meaning: Good Friend
Gender: Male
Rank: Lone
Mate: none
Pups: Quetzalcoatl

Personality: Aboki is abrasive, distrustful, and extremely antisocial. He is also the eldest of Risen Ashes, making him embody the "grumpy old hermit" role. Refusing to live within easy reach of the other pack members, he instead makes his home in a rocky crevice that is a ten minute walk away from the others. Being in the presense of anyone, wolf or otherwise, is extremely trying and grating on his nerves and he will often abandon conversations to seek solitude without warning. Though he was offered Beta status, Aboki maintains being a lone wolf, preferring only to interact with the others when necessary and sometimes not even then. Though he seems to have developed an unhealthy fascination with Mimic as of late...

Background: In the shade of a thicket, a laboring dam birthed her litter of three as a lone Beta, her taken mate, stood guard. From the start, it seemed, the three brothers had been born on the darker side of fate's palm as they were denied a warm and dark welcome to the world in the safety of a den and were, instead, carried back one by one through the frigid October air to the location of their parents' pack.

The pups, in spite of not being highly expected to survive the approaching winter months, were welcomed by the Alphas as room was made to raise the three new males.

One of the pups, from the start, was not like his brothers. While one bore the rich chocolate brown and white ruff of their father, and the other was the earthy gray-beige of their mother, the third had gotten a mix of the two colorations which had patterned themselves in a most incriminating manner on his fur.

As though reminiscent of his serpentine coloration, the pup was loathe to leave the den as well and was much more content to remain curled tightly in the furthest shady corner, surfacing only to eat. Frolicking in the snowdrifts, gnawing at bones, and other pup activities held no interest for him. He, likewise, was found to have a very volitile temper toward others who came too near, and left several older pups nursing bitten ears or faces.

His mother, in an effort to quell the whispers of the pack, had called him Aboki, meaning 'good friend' as though an amiable title may likewise bring out an amiable nature. The others, however, already had a name for the antisocial pup -- Rattler.

No more than a month old and Aboki was full-aware that he was an outcast in his own pack. Though he was never actively shunned nor mocked, he wanted nothing to do with the others and they likewise wanted nothing to do with him. Even the facade of enjoying his family's company was becoming a weary task...his eldest brother was showing an aptitude for hunting while the middle pup had already developed a slight gimp in his walk from an argument gone bad with one of the Alphas. Aboki, however, had contributed nothing and found that what he really, truly wanted was to be alone.

One night, with no prior planning or announcement, the rattlesnake-marked pup simply left while most of the adults were out hunting. If anyone saw him go, no one tried to stop him....if attempts were made to find him, they were unsuccessful. And frankly, that was fine with him.

Aboki's wanderings brought him to a mountain rise in which he found a cave hidden beneath a shelf of weathered rock. It was, it seemed, so deep that a good deal of the winter was unable to penetrate it. The floor was sandy and dry, there was a small trickling brook a short walk from its entrance, and the warmth from his body created a pocket of heat within the dark womb of stone

Above all -- it was quiet and it was here that the pup set up habitat. A diet of earthworms and the odd wayward chipmunk was a small price to pay for not being bothered. Part of him felt, on the nights that he could hear the distant ghostly howl of one of his bretheran, that he ought to regret leaving them the way he had, and yet he found himself unable.

It was as though, in this dark passage of rock where nothing but himself existed....he had finally come home.

Information
Name: Mimic
Meaning: Imitate
Gender: Female
Rank: Beta
Mate: none
Pups: none

Personality: Mimic's personality is hard to pin down...because, honestly, she doesn't have one. True to her name, her moods and mannerisms immediately shift to accomodate her present company. Around Choma, she displays a forthright and headstrong attitude, wanting the best for the pack and agreeing with her leader's ideals. As such, she is Choma's most trusted friend and has been given the rank of Beta. Unfortunately, in Aboki's presense, she is sullen, antisocial, and quick to anger, likewise making her Aboki's kindred spirit. It is second nature to her anymore to 'become' whomever she is speaking with.

Mimic does not do this to manipulate or attempt to learn secrets, it is simply how she has adapted to learn to survive. Being everyone's best friend in the process certainly has its perks, however...

Background: Mimic began life in the way most wolves do...in the privacy and protection of their mother's den. When a hunter from a nearby human tribe happened across said den quite by accident, Mimic's mother flew to the defense of her pups. She was slain by the hunter in self defense who, in seeing that he had destroyed a family, brought the pups back to his village with him where they were nurtured and raised.

The concept of tamed wolves was not unheard of and the pups grew to be quite comfortable in their human environment. Mimic earned her name when she developed the habit of yapping loudly at any men near her attempting to have a conversation, as though she was attempting to join in. Her peculiar quirk made her popular among the humans. She was rowdy and playful with the children, stoic and silent in the presense of the elders, and warm and gentle to the young mothers and aged crones.

While Mimic and her sisters were thriving, the tribe shaman looked upon the pup with distrust and disdain. He had recieved a warning in one of his visions that the downfall of his people may arrive in the most unlikely of forms. He had seen the way the little red-tailed female had watched him, with wisdom well-beyond her years glimmering in her eyes. It was not natural and he aimed to stop trouble before it started.

In the still of the night, he crept to Mimic's usual sleeping place, clouting her over the head with the butt of his staff. As a man of spirit, he could not bring himself to kill even what he believed to be a demon, and wrapped the unconscious pup in a blanket, carrying her far from the village to what he believed to be a safe distance.

Rubbing strongly-scented ointment on her nose so that Mimic would be unable to follow his scent back home, he left her there. When she awoke, Mimic found herself confused and alone. As she tried to locate something familiar, she amused herself with attempting to imitate the calls of the various forest creatures. The grunts of the territorial elk stags, the scolding of the flighty squirrels, and the drone of late-summer locusts.

Occasionally this tactic brought the prey to her as a confused (and rather dense) animal would approach, expecting to see one of its bretheren, only to be greeted by a hungry wolf pup. It was fine for lucky catches, but one simply couldn't live by luck alone. During one of her nights of exploration, she ran across a golden adolescent wolf calling herself Choma. Thanks to Mimic's ingrained gift of imitation, the two became fast friends.

As Choma grew older and established herself as the alpha and founder of her own pack, Mimic was granted the honor of Beta despite being young which she upholds to this day.

Information
Name: Drik
Meaning: none
Gender: Male
Rank: Beta
Mate: not anymore
Pups: please...don't make me remember.

Personality: When first meeting him, Drik seems to be very composed and perhaps even a bit serene. After being around him for a bit, however, one starts to notice his peculiar mannerisms. The way he never sits still, the way his remaining ear is almost constantly twitching, and the way he seems to follow the movements of things that aren't there. Occasionally he becomes very short of temper and will fly into a rage for no apparant reason or will flee the scene for parts unknown. He is reluctant to explain himself after one of these episodes and, more often than not, does not bother. He is clearly haunted by something, but most wonder what...

Information
Name: Mire
Meaning: Filth, Slime
Gender: Female
Rank: Seer
Mate: Myrl
Pups: Kudzu, Tybalt, Amethestan

Personality: Spastic, fearful of nearly everything, and believes that she deserves no better than to be treated as scum. She speaks little of where she came from, though she has alluded to the fact that she was once involved with humans in some form. She is often found pacing her den fitfully and whining to herself for no apparant reason as though in pain. Clearly, whatever happened to make her this way has had a lasting effect.

Background: Mire's mother was the beloved pet of the Bearwood Tribe who was content to live freely among the humans as they treated her with friendliness and with respect, believing wolves to be direct messengers of the gods. After one of her heat cycles was fulfilled by a wandering lone male, she quietly birthed a litter of four pups, one of whom was Mire.

As a sign of goodwill to the strange new settlers in their area, the Bearwood Tribe offered a little brown female to their leader as a gift, explaining that if she was treated with high regard, the gods would surely smile upon them as well and make their beginning a fruitful one. Unfortunately for the little brown she-pup, the man her care had been entrusted to was not a kind one.

He had his own idea of how to deal with animals --especially those with wild tendancies. He quickly fitted her with the name Mire, likening her tawny pelt to the color of mud and filth. Her puppy rambunctiousness was soon beaten out of her until she quickly learned that the only thing she could do to please her master was to hide from him and remain silent at all times. Even this did not suffice at times...when no one was looking, she often became the object of his anger at others as well.

As time wore on, leaving Mire bruised, frightened, and scarred, her salvation finally arrived one evening when her master's home caught fire due to a toppled lamp. Lost in the confusion, she fled into the woods, though it was not a sweet victory. Too frightened to return and too shamed by her ordeal to seek the company of other wolves, she attempted life as a loner.

The results were abyssmal, of course, as she had never learned to hunt or to fend for herself. She surely would have died on her own had she not been discovered by Choma one winter. Warily accepting the invitation to join Risen Ashes, she followed her back to the packlands and, after digging out her den, immediately went into hiding, imposing the role of omega upon herself because she did not believe she deserved any better.

Her behavior was regarded as quite odd by the others, but most didn't spare her a second thought. It was not until several months later that even odder behavior would begin to manifest itself. Often hearing disembodied voices and able, suddenly, to communicate much easier with animals other than wolves, Mire feared she might be crazy.

After an altercation with Drik due to such manifestations, Choma suggested perhaps she ought to leave until she was able to sort herself out. With Myrl, one of the pack males, as her companion, she departed Risen Ashes for a short time.

After learning of her potential as a seer following an attack by some human boys, Mire returned to Risen Ashes, now of a mind to attempt to accept what she was becoming. She and Myrl, in the meantime, had grown closer during their brief journey together and became mates.

Though she is still greatly effected by her past, Mire is beginning to believe that even she is entitled to a happy ending.

Personality: Quiet, studious, and a bit of a dreamer. Myrl can often be found at the side of a lake or a river, peering into its depths and thinking deeply. Of the three brothers, he is the gentle philosopher of the group. He often offers his softspoken voice of reason, but is seldomly listened to. Personality: Aggressive, Fiesty, and sarcastic. Kryn is never afraid to say exactly what's on his mind with little thought or care as to who's feelings it may hurt. As such, this has led to several confrontations with Choma despite his brothers' attempts to explain that its simply the way that he is. For all of his shortcomings socially, Kryn is an excellent hunter and tracker, making him a valuable asset to the pack. Though no one has ever TOLD him this, Kryn seems to be well-aware of it on his own and makes sure to remind everyone of it whenever the time comes to hunt.

Information
Name: Tyyl
Meaning: none
Gender: Male
Rank: Gamma
Mate: none
Pups: none

Personality: Tyyl is what some would call a bit 'touched'. He lives his life in a state of fogged awareness in which he often forgets names, places, and what he was doing two minutes ago. While most would find this behavior extremely aggravating, Tyyl compensates by having one of the sweetest dispositions one could hope to have the pleasure of making the acquaintence of. He is gentle, sympathetic, tactile, and is easy to trust with secrets as he forgets them in the span of five minutes anyway.
