Yes, it happened some time ago. But certain remarks from our former House Majority Leader about liberal Jews leave me smarting. My father was there when he said that. He said it in my own hometown of Sarasota, at a benefit for my psychotic witch of a congresswoman, Katherine Harris. Why bring this up now? Well, to be honest, I was walking by her office and debating throwing the remains of my orange juice at it when I remembered this situation. ^^; Anyway. Apparently, he thinks liberal Jews are, well, dumb. We liberal Jews have a "shallow, superficial intellect," in fact. Who knew? I know we have a lot of liberal Jews in this guild. For those of you who are, what would you say about these remarks and the article in general? Are you enraged enough to write an editorial good enough to be reprinted in five other papers, one being The Washington Post, like my dad did? Or, even, do you think he's right in what he said? I, of course, find all his remarks to be ridiculous. It's disgusting to stereotype all liberal Jews, especially with something that's not true. Rrgh.

I've met lots of stupid people. I didn't realize the honor of being limited in intellect was reserved for the Jews.
...We want to be liberals to "feel good"?
Let me direct this to a broader subject, ignore it if it's too off-topic. But why do liberals get counted off as being too "concerned with the heart." Ever hear that quote about a man having no heart if he's a young conservative, but no brain if he's an old liberal? (I paraphrase, because I can't remember the saying.)
Generalizing sucks. Generalizing a bunch of jews because t hey're Jewish and left-leaning sucks even more. I guess that's pretty much the limit of my articulation at this time, as I'm tired and working 14 hour days with very little sleep.
P.S. Jyu, did your dad really get published!?

Yeah, something like, "You're crazy if you're under 40 and conservative, crazy if you're over 40 and liberal." Except I think with an older age. Quote: Generalizing sucks. Every time a Republican does something stupid, or something Jewish happens, the Herald-Tribune practically reserves him an editorial spot. The man's got the maturity of a 12-year-old but the mind of... a really smart guy. xD

This remark also annoyed me - Quote: Matt Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, defended Armey, saying the House leader "has been a longtime friend and supporter of the Jewish community and his understanding and support of issues of concern to the Jewish community are beyond question." Wait, what? I should think his understanding of the Jewish community should definetly be questioned, when the man not only generalized slurringly about a good chunck of the community, but also insults their way of thought? The man is defending him solely on acount of him attacking the opposing political group, and ignores the slurr! People are both way too quick, and way too shy at using the term Anti-Semite. His remarks are racist. And I do not see how can they be seen any differantly.

Wait, what? The Republican Jewish Coalition is confusing support for Israel with support for the entire Jewish community. Yes, d**k Armey is extremely pro-Israel, but he's still got some problems to work out with the Jewish community as a whole- especially the American part of it. Israel is not the only 'issue of concern' to our people, and being called 'stupid liberals' is detrimental to a large part of our faith.

I feel your pain, Jyu. My congressman, Jim Moran? He's made so many anti-semetic and anti-Israel comments over the years that we've lost count. Seriously, that's just sad. And he's planning on running for senator next. God help us all from the anti-Jewish government people. They just don't get it, and then they deny, deny, deny. You know, denial's not just a river in Egypt. When was your dad's editorial published in the Washington Post, by the way? I may have read it. Washpost.com has free online archieves going back two weeks, maybe your local paper has longer. Could you provide us with a link?

And people say there's a ******** Jewish lobby, compare that to the rising anti-Semetic one! I was actually looking for a link, but it happened in 2002 so I couldn't find anything without paying. ^^; Even our local paper wouldn't give it to me without charging. I'll ask him where he still has it when he gets back from getting matzo ball soup for shabbos dinner. <3

Okay, this isn't serious or anything, but I think that if we got all the anti-Semetic people together and fed them like the best Jewish food in the world, they'd totally stop hating us. Who could hate the culture that produced matzo ball soup, brisket, kugel, and challah? Yea for wonderful carbi-licious and delicious Jew food!
