Selona "... I assure you it's not poisoned." she grinned. She recalled the first time she'd seen it happen herself.
She'd stared at her mother like she had two heads and had asked You expect me to eat this?. Of course. It had been an unabridged 'Yes', in response. "...All right...." Carefully - if not a bit disdainfully - he took a bite, chewing it slowly. Well, it tasted normal...even if his stomach was already protesting the idea of food. But...his eyes remained on her grin. He didn't see her smile often. Was that just him? Seemed to be the effect he had on everyone. ...Well, except Kadaj, but that was sort of a different story.

"See? It's not so bad." she caught his gaze and smirked lightly.
"It's called smiling, you should try it once in awhile. You may begin to feel better." With that, she took a seat in on of the nearby chairs. The kitchen had obviously been redesigned to afford company and casual conversation.
She patted down at the skirt of her dress, knocking a bit of dust off that she'd most likely picked up through the halls. The glow around her body faded as she afforded herself with a more casual stance.
You couldn't be a stiff upper lip all the time.

With a little sigh, he took another bite, then set the rest of the slice back down.
"...Perhaps. Usually it follows that when I'm smiling, I'm up to no good. Do I want you to think I'm up to no good? Not particularly."
Despite this, however, the corners of his mouth twitched. An awkward look.

"I would only think you were up to no good if you really were. Somehow I doubt eatting would consumate the idea within my brain, somehow, that you are going to be up to no good. " She paused.
"You worry too much." she leaned back in her chair, idley taking in the scents of the kitchen.
"You know. People won't judge you on the past forever..." her voice softened as she spoke. Quiet, but not weak.

"...I worry enough."
But at the second comment, he drew a deep breath, licking his lips. That habit he had before speaking.
"...It isn't the past...it's the present I'm concerned about. My present, what I'm doing...Jackson's present...what...what happened...."
He looked down at his plate, stomach churning.

"What happened... yes... the past." she sighed as she leaned forward in the chair again, resting her eblows on the table and her chin in her hands.
"Jackson's doing quite fine from what I'm gathering. Certainly, yes, there were complications from it... but he's still out enjoying life..." she eyed the young man before her carefully, eyes almost seeming to look right into the pit of his being.
"You've punished yourself enough, I believe. Behaving in such a self destructive manner does nothing for anyone..."

"Can I help that?" He spat the words, suddenly angry. Bringing his eyes up to look into Nimue's, the cerulean fire burning within them hinted at latent madness.
"It isn't even punishment anymore. It's...it's something more than that. Something deeper, something...more...."
Scowling, he stood up, turning away and taking a couple of steps. There it was again...that strange off-kilter feeling this young man often gave out.

Her eyes read no more than the simple complacency that she often showed. A hint of something else drew within them. It was not, however, fear or anger.
Her fingers nettled together over the table and she watched him get up and turn away. To her way of living, getting up and turning your back was a sign of weakness and digrace. To her sister it was a sign of dishonour.
Right now it was neither.
"Yes, I believe you can help it." her words came out slow and soft. Deliberate.
"You, of all people, know the weights and worries of the minds. You once said you wanted to be a psychiatrist. You were small then." she raised a hand, waving it in a circle at the memory. "As such, you should be the first to understand that the mind is a conquerable thing... and yes. It's often a struggle." she paused, watching for his body language, what was going through his mind.
"But you can take back what was once yours and you can lead a normal life." was she still talking about the same thing now, or had she moved onto something... different.
"Whether or not it's a punishment anymore... you need to take into consideration your options." her voice took a firmer tone.
"They say, in this world, that it is do or die. Now you must do in order to save yourself." she sighed, leaning back in her chair.
"But you already know all that." she eyed his back warily; a tugged frown pulling at her thin lips.

As she was speaking, Jonathan said nothing - but his shoulders did tense, shoulderblades straining in horrible, stark relief against his jacket. At her final statement, he heaved a sigh, speaking in a strained, hoarse tone of voice.
"...Of course I already know...."
He raised a spidery hand in an impatient gesture. He didn't turn around.
"Of course I know all that. But it's far from easy, as you said...a struggle. And I'm not going to lie to you...."
He turned on his heel, looking straight at her; an off-kilter smile twisting his face. Echoes of Scarecrow.
"I've never been good at fighting. But tell me this, Nimue...you say to weigh my options. What if I choose the path I'm on? What if...I tell you that I find satisfaction in what I'm doing?"
His voice was changing, as was his manner. He wasn't Scarecrow - not yet - but it was obvious he was being manipulated. Perhaps even being talked to, by the way he was pausing as if to listen to words of encouragement.
"...Would you turn me in?"

"Turn you in? Turn you in to what?" she raised a curious brow to his odd question. Ever calm, and ever relaxed however, Nimue stood from her seat, moving towards him. Her movements were steady and her body did not move up nor down, simply forwards.
Her eyes dug to his, keeping them aloft, keeping them up. No turning away now, this was to be dealt with. She raised a hand. Stop.
"If you found this... satisfaction... in the path you are currently on, Jonathan. You would not be here right now, having this conversation with me." she drew in a long, trying breath.
"However..." her gaze narrowed slightly, "if you do choose this path that you are met with now, I will do what I have to." not a threat, not a promise.
A simple truth.

Wild blue eyes peered back at Nimue, burning and shining with barely restrained madness.
"...I wouldn't have expected anything less...."
Reaching up with one hand, he removed his glasses, clicking them shut and putting them in his pocket.
"...Although...don't you see a problem with that?" He grinned, a few strands of hair falling out of place as his head tilted forward.
Scarecrow.

Her eyes never left his, even as the glasses were removed. Her gaze was steady, resolute. Much like her decision.
"Good evening." she spoke, "And no. I do not."

"And here I was thinking you were SO attentive."
He undid the top buttons on his jacket, then a few on his shirt - making himself more casual.
"...THINK. Would you punish one if it was the other's fault? Is that fair?"

"In the history of many worlds, sad sacrifices must be made to benefit the greater purpose." her arms crossed across her chest, closing herself off from his open stance.
"You have a lovely flair for sarcasm."

"Why, thank you. I think I'm good at it, too. Although...I'm shocked. You would sacrifice a friend for the greater good?"
He leaned forward, getting closer to her. Shocking, really, the difference between one and the other....
"...Is that noble...or is that backstabbing?"
