This is a thread dedicated to YOU telling us how to run the show. Bothered by something? Do you have any suggestions, complaints, advice? Post here, and we shall take your opinions into account. I want to make this guild fit as best as it can the needs of its members, which means that the way I want to run it might not be the best way there is necessarily.

To increase interaction within the guild, should I make the guild public?

'Public' meaning that non-members can post? That wouldn't make it much different from the S&T forum, then. That would not be a good thing, given how much idiocy is routinely going on there.

poweroutage To increase interaction within the guild, should I make the guild public? I would have to vote on the no side... give it a few days for conversations to get started.

Artikel Turiacus No or Artikel haters may bombard this guild and make it loose credibility; I don't want to have to be a creampuff for being a part of your guild. yah not to worry it's not gonna happen, I've decided against it. My initial idea, was that people who did not with to be part of the guild necessarily could ask someone who perhaps know what they're talking about for help. But this can be done on a personal level anyway.

On a completely different note, would having "an introduction to [physics area]" series of threads be a worthwhile project? I'm willing to do some if there is any interest.
For example, I was quite serious when I said that the basics of special relativity can be done with nothing more than high-school level mathematics. Not just how to calculate problems, but with rigourous derivations on how spacetime works. Personally, I find it a shame that it is not taught at that level--high-school physics classes typically only brush the surface. I know there are several high-schoolers here, although all those not too familiar with relativity would benefit.
So... speak up, denizens of the guild.

hm, that is an interesting idea. I have my introduction to special relativity textbook at hand, perhaps I could help you (under supervision of course). I should like to know what everyone else thinks. I think it's time for a poll.
And also, if you do do an introduction, each topic should be a separate thread. I dislike it when the thread is 50 pages, and you have to look for the topic of interest. Or perhaps you can include a table of contents at the beginning... and even then you have to 'flip' through the pages (since gaia shows only two pages ahead or behind) What do you think? Subforum Time?

Teaching Special Relativity:
I have a bunch of lecture notes and sample problems on (among other things) special relativity, which are aimed more or less at high school students, which I should be able to post up, if they're wanted.
Poweroutage: The table of contents can include direct links to the page/post with the information.
I agree that some guide thingy's, to various topics in physics are probably a good idea.
If nothing else, better educated people can have better discussions.

I say, one thread, table of contents, and take it away VorpalNeko.
