Our story thus far: Naia finds out that she was the cause of a hurricane, a lapse in control she had since forgotten due to a potion.

Repost from HQ rp:

Naia flinched away from the friendly hand. "No... I..." She moved away from them quickly. "I..." The mermaid's chest started heaving as thunder sounded again. She couldn't curb her breathing and was starting to get dizzy. "I have to get out of here!" She fled the room, Cthulhu barely able to hang on as she moved out the door, leaving it to slam behind her.

Naia stumbled down the path away from the HQ, eyes darting wildly about her. Her mind was frozen in place, unable to move on, to deal.

The clouds were dark above her head, and she was at least conscious of the sounds of thunder. It was actually the only reason she wasn't freaking out more. She was afraid she'd do something again... something worse than the last time.

Cthulhu was knocked off his master's tail as she struggled through some bushes off the beaten path. Tumbling end over end, he picked himself up and tried to skitter after her.

((Is this RP backdated, Brina? Or does it happen 'today' Fa'e-time?))

Walking outside was peaceful, soothing, and overall a calming experience when you were confused. Riven had learned that from Ghlyssa, and although he suspected such walks did significantly more for her than for him due to her affinity with the earth, he did enjoy them. The world down here really was wonderful. Sometime when he had no need to worry about Chaos, if that day ever came, he'd like to travel around more and see what there was to see in all the many worlds under his Realm.

A faint rumble of thunder interrupted his thoughts, and he looked up, startled. That sounded a bit more intense than the usual spring storm. His forehead wrinkled in thought as he looked up at the too-dark clouds. Strange.

A flash of blue caught his eye, and he blinked as he focused on it. Was that... "Naia? Hey, Naia!" He waved energetically at her and called out. "Come under the trees, it looks like rain!"

((Obviously Riven doesn't know not ot stand under trees in a lightning storm XP))

((it's backdated... which is actually sort of postdated (compared to where i am in her journal)... erm... it was the rp on the same day that glee grew up on... ))

"Ri-ven?" She faltered. And as the mermaid paused, confronted by the unexpected Fa'e, the storm also paused. The clouds seemed to hesitate in their rush across the darkening sky. Even the wind held its breath.

Perhaps you should talk with him... I think he might be able to help... I'll be waiting for you at home. Cthulhu didn't want to leave her in this situation, but glancing at Riven, something odd told him that this might be best. The Fandangle slipped amidst the bushes, disappearing from sight, but lingering for a moment or two before returning home.

Naia took a deep wavery breath, only now noticing the tight fists her hands were balled into. She stretched her fingers, inspecting her palms to see the deep nail ridges. Cautiously, she moved towards him, offering the most miserable fake smile in history. "Hi... Riven."

((Hrm, okay. XD; Can we say that some time passed between when Naia left and their conversation now? Because Riven was in Fa'e HQ that night for a while after Naia left, and I don't want him to be in two places at once. wink ))

"I think it might rain... and it's getting dark, so you'll get cold if you get wet," Riven said, reasonably. "I thought you went home..." He vaguely remembered Naia leaving HQ earlier, but his attention had mostly been on Ghlyssa. Wow, she was so beautiful now that she'd grown. All that green hair...

Erm. Riven forced his brain back to Naia, and smiled back, though his was genuine and touched with slight concern.

((sure! ^.^ when i move it to the diary, i'll be sure and write that up))

Naia shook her head. "I... couldn't go back home. Not yet." She swallowed a little. Why was it so hard to go back to ignoring something... She shook her head. No, that was crazy.

A tiny bitter laugh slipped out. It seemed so out of character that the mermaid was surprised at herself. "Apparently I'm the most myself when I'm caught in a rainstorm." Looking at his face, she was instantly sorry. "No, I didn't mean that. Ignore me, Riven. I'm not... too terribly stable right now."

Riven wrinkled his nose. "You just told me why I can't ignore you." He gently put one hand on her shoulder. "You're out of balance, and I can't ignore that." The spirit Fa'e grinned wryly and tried to guide Naia under the shelter of the canopy. "It's part of being what I am."

She stared at his hand, as if she were expecting him to burst into flames the moment he made contact. Involuntarily, Naia shivered, but followed him. The clouds followed too, pregnant with rain and anticipation. She wondered a little at the last comment, having not known much about Riven's nature.

For a long long moment the mermaid was silent. She wanted her mother, she thought crazily. She wanted Anen. But she wasn't sure they could help when she felt so lost in her own body.

"Jekyll had Hyde and I have myself," she said wryly, looking up into his ethereal eyes and knowing full well how little sense she made.

Riven wrinkled his nose. "I don't know what you mean, but hiding doesn't fix anything," he said. "Um... I know you don't know me really well, but if I can help..." He shrugged. "I've been kind of 'at loose ends' lately, as my Guardian would say. And I can't resist wanting to balance something that got off a bit," he added, wry grin reappearing.

"You make it sound... so easy," she said softly, sadly. Tiredly, she sank to the ground, never-minding the damp soil. It was as if someone had poked her with a pin and she was slowly collapsing inward on herself. It felt so tiring, so empty.

"You know who you used to be, don't you?" she asked.

"I do," he said, simply. "I'm still who I used to be... in general," he added, with a faint sense of unease. "But it wasn't easy. I always knew I was the Spiritkeeper, but I didn't realize exactly what it meant, or remember everything, until just before I became a youth. I still know there's bits and pieces I can't remember, hiding in my mind."

"I don't know myself anymore."

She looked up at Riven, on the brink of tears. "I did something... I don't know why. But people were there, and I saw one of them tonight. She looked so scared. I don't remember anything... everyone's keeping secrets! I..." She sagged, looking down at her hands, her hair falling forward to obscure her face.

Riven slid down to sit on the leaves next to her. "What did you do? I found out about a lot of things I did, once. They were kind of scary."

A pause. "I'll tell you if you tell me."

"I don't remember! I can't remember... All I have to go on is what she said, and I can feel that it's true. There was a hurricane... they went looking for me... all I can recall is being cold."

Incrementally she began to rock back and forth, drawing her tail up to her chin and wrapping her arms around it. "I don't know why I'd do it. I don't know how I could do it... I... I'd sooner hurt myself than anyone else, you know?" A few stray salty tears fell and beaded on some grass blades.

"There was a hurricane? That's nature, not you, right?" Riven sounded a bit uncertain, though; he looked up to the dark clouds above. Was he hearing raindrops on the leaves now, or was that just Naia crying? "And I know," he said, awkwardly patting her shoulder. "But if... I guess if you have some kind of power that might hurt people, you should learn about it as soon as you can so you can balance it. Then it won't, right?"
