Alrighty.

Since what I believe to be the vast majority of you make a lot of your own stuff, if not everything, I figured this'd be a fair question to ask.

What kind of sewing machines do you have?

If you like yours, what about it do you like?

If you dislike yours, what's wrong with it, or what machine would you rather have?

Any suggestions for sewing machines?

I have a pretty old kenmore model.
i inherited it from my grandmothers, but i've yet to make anything with it
(but i plan to very soon! i just learned how to use it today.)
i found it after i begged my mother for a new sewing machine, so she got impatient with me and dug it out from storage.
xD

uhm. I like mine because it has a lot of stitching options. I don't know the names of them, i forgot. xDDDD

A PFAFF sewing machine. It's my mothers, but she lets me use it. It's a computerized sewing/embroidery machine and works SO well. 3nodding

I do not know how to use a sewing machine...
I handsew everything, which takes twice as long, but still works. And yes, for the most part, I make my own clothes.
Honestly, I am afraid of sewing machines, but I have worked up the courage to take a class next year (at the library of all places) on how to use a sewing machine :3
I am afraid its going to eat my hand D':
I know; I am pathetic. xD

well it may be grusome but nice to know something like that happened to my cousin.
he was in a sewing class and he put his hand under and the needle went right threw his finger. there was a nice puddle of blood left but like an idiot insted of raising the needle he just yanked his finger out. tore it in half.

THE GOOD NEWS.
the needle going threw didnt hurt at all, its a thin fast moving peice of machiene and hands are tough stuff!
it heeled within a month and his finger was tender for a week, like real tender, but rember he tore it in half.
he has gained back full dexterity and has no problem what so ever. hes a good gutiarist.

THE BAD NEWS
it really grossed out his class. and he ruined his project.

all in all any kind of way you could get hurt from the sewing machine is minor. the incident above happened like eight or ten years ago and they have much improved on sewing classes and machienes so you have extreme minimal worries ahead.

GOOD LUCK.
i sigend up to take a half year sewing class in next year in school. yay senior blow off classes. i hope i actually get it though because i heard the teacher may leave.

That is good to know.. but also makes me wonder why he did just yank it.... probably panic xD
But thank you ^^
It has just always been a random fear of mine.. I am not sure why xP
It is also good to know that this happened to him, and was nothing permanant :3
So thanks very much ^^
Ah, senior blow off classes >.<
My school only offered a sewing class, that was titled 'clothing' and had more to do with washing clothes than making them.. So I never took it >.<

I don't know what mine is... It's old, and I have a love-hate relationship with it.

It helps me a lot, but threading it is confusing. It gets the job done, but I have to hand-stitch all stretchy materials. Is it possible for a machine to do more than one kind of stitch? That'd be cool... @_@

turn the knobs. standard there should be a nob for kind of stich and then a knob for with or how far apart every stich is. take some scrap fabric and experiment.
also you can adjust how tight the foot presses down so you can sew strechy stuff.
i dont know how exactly to adust it though....

first post

Haven't made a dress yet, but I've made a cosplay outfit and sew my many Card Captor Sakura dolls clothes.

I use my Mommy's sewing machine, it's a Singer and works like a charm (so much faster than hand stitching too! What took me 2 hours to do handstitching took me about 10 minutes on the machine)

I like it because of the fact that I can use it, the various stitching types (I remember after my mommy got it getting material and spending 15 minutes trying out all of the different stitches... sweatdrop )
