Mal sat in her chair next to her bed. She was deep in thought. It had been a long time since she had seen her kids. She wondered what they were doing. Were they ok? They had grown up so fast and she missed them alot. She also wondered how Ryker felt aobut it.

~BAM~
A rush of pain and ringing ears assualted the Pae as his head hit the table. Ryker had put the bacon on the stove and sat down for a moment; resting his head on his hand he waited to hear the sizzle of the pork. Instead he had drifted off and now the room was filled with smoke. "DAMN IT," he yelled and hopped up to turn off the flaming breakfast. He hoped that Mal could smell the smoke; she didn't need to be worried over this.

Mal's quiet thoughts were interrupted by a loud bang. "What was that?" She asked herself as she jumped up from her chair.
She ran to the sound and found Ryker in the kitchen with smoke. "What happened? Are you ok?" She ran to his side and looked at him.

Ryker paused mid-flail as his mate ran to him. "Nothing, just some burned breakfast. I'll make more." Stepping away from Mal, the catprinted Pae sped off out of the tent; the smoke being caught in the vacuum behind him followed the demon out of the tent. Stopping, he watched the smoke slowly waft away, thinning into a mere shadow against the white fluffy clouds. With a sigh, he reentered his home slowly.

Mal smiled as she watched her hubby fly out of the room and take the smoke with him. She sat down and watched as he re-entered. "Oh, well, you don't have to make more if you don't want to." It was sweet that he was making breakfast for the two of them.

"Sure I do. It's breakfast time." He forced a smile he didn't feel and started to fry more bacon. The demon hadn't slept decently in a few nights, and it was all he could do to keep his strained nerves from showing. Worrying Mal was out of the question, so he did what he thought was best and shoved it down. "Would you like some toast?"

Mal shook her head, "Sure, it smells really good." She didn't know why, but Rhyker felt off, like maybe he was upset about something. She didn't want to pry, but she didn't want him upset. "Are you feeling ok?"

"Yeah of course," he replied with forced enthusiasm. Luckily, his back was toward his mate so he didn't have to fake a happy face to go with it. He reached for the bread to butter up for toasting and tried to throw himself wholeheartedly into the food preparation. Like it or not, a roaring silence settled that made him even more uncomfortable.

"Oh, ok, you seem kida quiet today." Although he was usually quiet compared to her. She was the louder one and always had been. She took a bite of her toast and smiled, "This is very good, thanks." She watched him and wondered why he wouldn't tell her what was wrong. "Are you sure you are ok?"

"Do you think I'm a bad father?" He blurted out. Fine, he had said it and there was no taking it back. A small weight lifted off of his shoulders, but the problem at hand still had him brooding. Sitting at the table, he rested his head in his hands.

Mal reached her hand over the table and took one of Ryker's hands. "Oh, course you aren't! Why would you say such a thing?" She stroked his hand and watched him. "You are a wonderful father, just ask one of the kids."

"How can I? I don't know where any of them are anymore. I can't even keep track of my children." He sighed and squeezed her hand; there were other things on his mind as well, but they could be dealt with later. Reaching up with his free hand he pushed his hair behind his elongated ear and shook his head.

Mal sighed, "I'm not sure where they are either. I know Tawny was hanging around a fae named Karma alot." She squeezed his hand back. "They are growing up and not really needing us anymore." Mal didn't want to admit this, but it was true.
