On a whim, Kite decided that today was the day he would visit Amelie.

In all reality he must have made the decision earlier then that, as he had been heading towards the coast (or at least in that general direction), for at least two days, heading from the heavy forests and the river, through the plain-type areas, and past a large rock that he fancied looked like a fish. However it was just that day he decided he would look for her actively, as he had grown bored with enjoying the scenery alone.

Plus, it was little wonder he had chosen this time to head to the beach. It was proving to be a pleasant spring, warmish, mostly sunny, with refreshing rain often enough to keep the plants happy. He had floated down the river since the weather had brightened up, but had still not had a good swim since he had come to these lands. Also, he missed the smell of the ocean. Maybe it was not so much a whim, but he liked to think that is what it was.

It wouldn't be long till he reached his destination either. The salt was already beginning to assault his nose in the most delicious way, and he could barely sense the past presence of Amelie around the area. So he continued foreword (mostly), a big smile on his face, virtually bouncing along with happiness.

It was going to be a good day, he could feel it!

It was a fantastic day!

He found a rock! It was blue! The young wolf shifted radialy around the small blue (ish) rock excitedly, admiring it from different angles and delighting over the way the rock reflected the sun.

He grinned a little wider and yipped once with excitement before sitting down swiftly and wagging happily, considering whether to take it or not. After only a moment of thought, however, he was distracted again, turned back into the direction of his origonal destination.

Another wolf was coming! Far away now, coming closer though. It wasn't Amelie, but she did have a pack?

Deciding to ask for directions he stood up again, and began trotting in the direction of the other, rock now forgotten in exchange for something more animated.

Kite slowed to a stop as the other wolf aproached, noting the large size and scars that covered the black wolf. He seemed very serious.

Perhaps?

Maybe, not important right now though. For right now he needed to make a new friend, reguardless of who he was.

"Rock?" Kite asked, a quizzical expression on his face, tail slowing down for a moment as he wondered what the other wolf was talking about. A second later he remembered his previous endeavor and grinned again, tail returning to it's usual speed.

"Oh, yes, kind of. I was actualy doing something else before that though. I'm Kite, who're you?"

He took another step towards the big wolf, wondering who he was, and finaly finding something more engaging then scenery to attend to.

Not to say that the rock was not still very interesting, but it couldn't talk back.

If Kite noticed that Phib was being gruff he didn't show it. Chances were he couldn't tell. Phib would have to probably attempt to kill the small bright wolf before Kite noticed he was angry. Lucky for Kite Phib wasn't crazy.

"Phib? Alpha Phib..." Kite silenced for a moment, looking thoughtful, and thing smilled again, tail wagging quickly, "You are Amelie's mate? I was looking for her, that's what I was doing before looking at the rock. I said I'd visit her at the ocean where she lives."

Kite grinned at the serious Phib, who was just as serious as Amelie had said. It suited him though, he couldn't imagine the hulking wolf being silly. It would be strange, right? Kite continued to wag his tail slowly, pleased that he had succeeded in his mission. Afterall, Phib would know where his friend was, as long as she hadn't wandered off, and then she would return to her home eventualy anyway.

His adventure appeared to be proceeding nicely.

"Oh?" he paused for a moment and glanced in the direction that Phib had looked, wondering what was over there.

"The ocean? Is it so near?"

He turned to the east, wagging his tail a bit quicker, and turned back around quickly to turn to Phib again.

"Thank you, that's very nice. Amelie was very much right," he said with a happy smile that reflected on every aspect of his body. When Kite smiled, it wasn't just his maw or tail, it was ears and eyes and shoulders, and every other part of him that there was.

"Ah, but I should go say hello then, right? Afterall, she asked me to visit awhile ago," he said, slightly more solemn, feeling like he might have visited earlier and been a better friend. He soon smilled again though, and glanced off to the east.

Kite just smilled. He knew she wouldn't be mad. And if she was he would just make up for it somehow, by doing something funny or pretending to be incredibly wounded. It had always worked on his sisters, they were never able to stay angry at him, even when he was being 'stupid'.

"That's good. She is happier when she has friends I think," Kite said musingly as he followed the other wolf, tail still swaying slightly as he looked at his suroundings, memorizing the area carefully.

He would never be able to get lost that way. It was a shame.

"The shore? Hmm, I am wondering, do you have otters? Amelie couldn't see them, but she said they would sing. I could not tell if we were talking about the same thing. Cassidy had seen a river otter though," he added distractedly, considering the possibilities of perhaps a turtle or even just a strand of amusing seaweed in his future. He realized that he was getting distracted again, and turned his attention foreword again, watching Phib carefuly.

He was like Kite's father, very serious. Surprisingly enough, more talkative though. And more foreceful. Kite's dad only ever led himself, he didn't mind if his family chose to do something else. That was probably the difference between pack wolves and lone wolves. He didn't know though, he had never been in a pack before.

"I see," Kite said, distracted again by his surroundings. He really didn't, Kite was rarely lonely, his own company usualy entertained him well enough. But he did enjoy others a little better most of the time. That was probably why he bothered them when he could find them.

"Ah, Seals! There weren't many as far south as I was before, but they are funny creatures. You gotta watch out for the real big ones though."

He continued on, glancing about at a few telltale signs of the upcoming see. Rough grass, windblown surfaces. The smell could be deceivingly strong when the sea was larger, and sometimes you could be hours away when you sensed it, but these signs were unmisteakable to a wolf who had spent the majority of his life on the sand.

He smilled wider, wondering if perhaps Amelie would go in the water with him. Maybe Cass would swim too? The sea was too nice.

Phib chuckled somewhat idly, envisioning the shape of a large fur seal. Ah yes, there was something to be looked out for in the bigger ones. They could make for some nasty bad company, but luckily, they kept themselves off the shores for the most part. Thanks to him, probably, but it was only a temporary victory, for there was always some fat seal who felt the urge to crawl back on shore.

As the neared the water, the grass did turn sharp and wheat in color. All year it kept it's brown color, until it was killed off by the winter frost. But just as soon as the snow melted it rose again in wild brilliance. It was a sturdy, hardy plant but it liked to bite at the toes of passing wolves. Not particularly sharp- but it was somewhat peculiarly sticky, and some small seed shells clung to the insides of the black wolf's toes.

Another sloping incline, and the land suddenly stopped rolling. At the top, the sea could now be viewed, and from this point the land slumped forwards and continued on to the sea. A slight breeze was blowing and lightly it buffeted the old king's face, and he found himself frowning. Guilt. But why? Why did he have to be the one that felt guilty?

"The sea is just down there." He remarked, although that was quite obvious. They could see even the western shore from this point, out across the bay. But it was hard to tell yet if there were any beach going occupants. "She'll be down by the northern side, where the river is." He explained without even knowing, and began to walk down the hillside.

"You came from the south?" Phib idly questioned.

Kite swerved a bit to sniff at a clump of grass as they continued on, momentarily forgetting that he was following someone before speeding up a bit to catch up to Phib again. He was already having to walk quicker due to the difference in size, however the speed probably suited him better anyway.

Soon the sea came into veiw and Kite grinned, trotting foreword to get a good look at it, nose working quickly and ears flicking in all directions, trying to process it all. It was a nice beach, not tropical like many he had been to, but pleasant and nice none the less. He could tell that in the winter it would not be as kind, but the warm spring day held much promise for a pleasant stay.

"Ah, good," he half-barked and followed after Phib again, half sliding down the hill for lack of attention to where he stepped, "Yeah, in a roundabout way. I was east, then south, then north again. A much warmer place is where I came from origonaly, although my family hails from a more wooded area."

He padded along, not really watching who he was talking to or where he was going, mostly watching the waves of the sea, happy to see it again, though he had not even really noticed missing it. It did have a certain draw that the woods lacked, and he realized it now.
