A lot of people, including Buddhist monks, believe Jesus to be a Bodhisattva. Particularly, when looking at it from the Mahayana point of view.... since the general goal there is to save all sentient beings from suffering (or sin in this case?).
I'm not really big on the metaphysical, so dun take my word on it... but my understanding is that the Bodhisattvas aren't worshipped so much as seen as guides. More comparable to Western angels and saints. I suppose, from that angle, Jesus isn't so much one you bow down to in worship.. rather He's someone you respect and want to be friends with. But of course, how one wishes to approach the matter is really up to them. blaugh

Akanishi Makoto WiseFire777 Hi everyone. I was just wondering if Jesus was a Bodhisttvha Yes. Quote: and can a Buddhist worship him. No. You're welcome. Agreed.
Bodhisattvas should not be worshipped. It's not because they're unworthy, but it's because that would take our attention away from them serving as an example for us to live up to, and diverting it to the bodhisattva themselves.
Generally, it creates a distinction between who is worshipped and who is worshipping, when one should strive to eliminated that distinction altogether. Don't worship the morality of Jesus, live it. Don't worship the divinity of Jesus, see it as an example of how one should live themselves.
Jesus was a wonderful example of how people can live, practicing giving, joyous effort, ethics, patience, concentration, and wisdom. I feel that when you choose, instead, to focus on Jesus as being the Son of God, you deminish his potential as a real saviour. He's effectively turned into something outside of you, to be looked at and to be coveted.
But that's my opinion, and opinions are like assholes. wink

So the thing with Bodhisatvas is to like follow the path of one? For example Guan-yin, he/she shouldnt be wroshipped but respected for what he/she represents so that one can take in what Guan-yin represents? Am I right? (please correct me if im wrong >_<)

We possess the same potential to become a bodhisattva ourselves, and that should be honored and cultivated.

Those interested in Jesus should find a bible that shows the words of Jesus in red. Focusing on that is for the best, I think. You want to learn from a teacher or a student?

ღஐღ A friend of mine was reciting passages of Gnostic Scripture attributed to Jesus, and as he was doing this I was filled with the urge to call Jesus and say, enthusiastically, "you go, girl!"
I would seriously love for Jesus to come back as a sassy black girl from New York. I don't mean to be offensive, but just some of the things he says are just so right on the money that the sort of attitude those sassy New Yorkers have would be the perfect accompaniment for those teachings.
... I mean, I've explained some things regarding Buddhism as though the Buddha was such a person. "And then Buddha saw the monk lying alone in his own filth and he was all, "girl please! You tellin' me you just left him in there all sick an alone?! Why y'all gotta trip like that?" And so the Buddha washed the monk, cleaned his room, and took care of him until he was cured of his sickness ... then they ate Ben and Jerry's, and it was good. But they weren't attached to it. No."
