Hi my name is lila.
in band this morning our director gave us the news that fine arts credits in florida are not being required!! >.<
this would mean that people in middle school can take band for a quarter of the year, then go to high school ad to know anything, drop band in highschool and then band band gets no financial support which results in band just *poof* disappears. we need HELP!!!!

If they're going to drop fine arts they may as well drop sports too, anything like that.
That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard... *points up* YES, PETITION, WRITE LETTERS, BREAK THINGS, REBELLLLL!

Nice there Vaginal Yeast. All I can say is that you're gonna need to start going around to the people in your community and talking to them about donations, fundraising etc. Then you need to make a petition and have people sign like crazy and then send it to the school board. In there needs to include that band students are smarter than any of the students in the school. If they want their general funding in general to go down due to stupid people and their low test scores, then take band away. People don't realize that music isn't JUST noise. rolleyes

Society usually cares about us poor music kids when we feel unappreciated. Collect donations and start up a petition! That's absolutely unacceptable!
But it will also repel those who are just doing band for the credit because then you'll have hardcore players who are there to play their instrument, not because of the credit.
There's more downside than upside, though. :

how is there more downside than upside to that? You're getting rid of the people in the band who don't care which makes the band a bajillion times better.

no no no I live in florida and I'm part of the interlachen high school band. our band is the only thing that gives our town any sense of pride and all the nearby high schools fear us. why do they do this when there is more research proving that music education is better for education than sports education. ****** politicians send me the petition and I'll get people up in putnam county going on it.

how dare people try to ruin other people's happiness, try even writing to the mayor or something, telling them how much they will be ruining lives!!!!!

i hate that schools don't care as much about the arts as they used to. emo band is so much fun and i can't imagine life without it. i'd have like 50 less friends and i'd be bored all the time. we all know there's enough money to pay for the arts, so why don't they actually help us?
i dunno if you all are from florida, but we have the FCAT here and it's like THE most pointless thing ever. scream plus, it's expensive! just think how much money we could use on band and visual arts instead. it's so frustrating!

Thats why we support our selves.
We do fund raisers and pay millions of dollars for "band fees"
to earn money.
Also, ZERO PERIOD BAND is a result of gay florida.

THEY WILL NOT DESTROY MY BAND!!!
im in aband in lake county, and we get no funding. we get everything we have through hard work and my uniform is older than i am...literally! our school instruments are crap and we have to watch the football team get new expensive equipment every year for free...
ur right, florida is destroying band...but we will preservere! we are band nerds! were hardly human (i kid i kid lol)

I don't live in florida so I can't really know how you feel right now but that is just wrong. Taking fine arts out of the cirriculum is just mad. I say if they take fine arts out then should take sports out to. Just because it may (hopefully not) happen in florida doesn't mean that they'll stop there because once they get going they won't stop soon they would put that law to all the states. So let's potition and don't let the do this

. . Erm, at our school, you can take a year of fine arts or a year of foreign language. It's not required. Yet, our four bands combined have 200 people in it.
And as for financial support, a lot comes from our own pockets or from the band directors, because they have connections. =O
And why should that be a worry? Band should be for people who want to be in it, not for people who grumble about credits. Dx s n o w
