I just go to the Barnes and Noble, and if I see a book I wanted, or an interesting book, then I get it.

Here, we have a store called "Chapters." It's part of the Indigo Books conglomerate and it's quite a bit like Barnes & Nobles (even usually has a Starbucks in the building). If I have a choice, there's a really big branch of this store in downtown that I like to go to. So if I have to buy something for school or I am just looking for something specific.
But my dad will sometimes get me amazon.ca certificates. So then I will just use that.
I'm all for small book stores and if I knew where any where, I might favor them. But I don't. Besides, Chapters tends to be so much cheaper with special deals and my rewards card.

Personally, I go and raid library book sales. But, if I have enough money, Barnes & Noble or Borders can be nice.
Peace! ninja

Borders. They are cheap but good quality. However I do prefer to just borrow books from the library now.

I actually enjoy using half.com or alibris.com . Mostly because the majority of my books are textbooks, and I have a thing against the apparent BN monopoly over school bookstores. This way I can normally get my books for much less than the cover price, so I can actually afford to take the class. For example, this semester I had 8 books, and cover price was just under 500. Using half and alibris I managed, with s&h, to get them for less than 300. I know many people claim that the authors don't recieve royalties from it, but three of the books were written by the proff, who clued everyone in the class onto alibris, saying that he doesn't make enough in royalites off of academic books to justify driving us poor grad students into debt. So ::shrug:: I figure that with a salaried position, they have a steady stream of income. While those of us who work odd jobs to keep a place to live really don't need to support them more.
