Well, when you say 'the best' it's all about opinion really. All in what you think in the ability, appearance, personality, and connotation of the character that it impacts you. Personally, and not just because he's the main, I really like Kenshin, just because of the weight of his character and just the fact that in a sense it's kind of an alternate person-thing going on. It's hard to decide, Hiko is also a very well-thought out character, just not my favorite XD

I find Soujiro fairly thought out as well. I mean, his past may be somewhat cliched (up to a point), but really, how it served later on is very interesting. I wonder how it would be like if he had more of a Saitou or Sanosuke personality.

And Kenshin's all badass in his own right. Just because he's Kenshin.
But Sano could totally take him. Totally. Yeah. No, I know Kenshin kicked his a**. Twice. Sano was just holding back. Yeah. 'Cuz he didn't wanna hurt him. Really. Yeah. No, I'm serious. Really.

Even tho I'm a HUGE Sansuke fan I have to say that Kenshin could kick Sanosuke's butt.

Agreed. Though Sano is an awesome character, Kenshin does outdo him greatly in fighting skill. ^^;;

I would have to say Han'nya, of the Oniwabanshu. He's such a wonderful character, but very underappreciated... his life story is unique and thoroughly interesting, he's loyal to his friends, willing to die not only for their cause, but for they themselves, their lives - unlike some of the other antagonist groups, who would betray even their own for their cause. Han'nya is complex and noble... I really love his character.
