I don't like hunters. This one girl in my class was talking about how she hunts and everything and acted like it wasn't a big deal. It was really pissing me off. I know that we have hunters for a reason, but I still think it's wrong to kill an animal. When people do something wrong, have ya ever noticed how they don't kill them? They put them in jail for a while and then a few years later let them out so they can do it again.

It's efed up if you ask me. What do you think about hunting?

Wow, I can already tell that this will be a long reply.

Hunting... let me see... I know hunting is a natural thing, as our ancestors did it for survival, so it's only human nature. However, we don't do it for survival anymore, and unfortunately, too many people do it just for fun, kill the animal, and leave it to rot.

One claim why hunting is OK is so that the deer population can be lowered. But one has to wonder if it weren't for the sport of hunting, would deer really be so overpopulated? When this country was home to the Native Americans, were deer a problem then? There are several natural predators out there, as well, but unfortunately, we're killing them off, too.

It's sad that it's a prideful thing to do such things in this world when it's no longer for survival. Human nature is pitiful sometimes, but I guess it's to be expected when man assumes they are the supreme and dominant beings of the world. But that's another story.

just because someone hunts doesnt make them a bad person... i LOVE animals, if you read under what kind of pets do you have you'll read that i raise animals and use to raise or help injured wildlife.... i also hunt... when we throw food out, its during the off season, its corn, and it is scattered therough the woods... the whole point of throwing the food out is so that you can have a goodenough hun to only kill one deer... (well at least in Fla because the wildlife here is exceptionally small) Most hunters, eat what they kill... i dont agree wil head mounting, or killing for fun, or for antlers.. i am half indian, and my whole family has hunted through the ages, we dont buy a lot of store meat if we can avoid it and we try to store what we have from the hunting season. Hunting is wrong if you do it because you like to kill thing or because you want the antlers as a trophy. Hunting should only be for food... it is almost inpossible to use everything from a kill now.... some families like mine know how to dry the hyde but a lot of people dont and they either throw it way... we donate ours to POW-WOWS. It is illeagle to kill tigers and such, and the bald eagle has been moved from the endangered list to the threatened list.... people in other parts of the country say alligators are endangered, well here if you have a permit, youre allowed to hunt them... but Pandas, tigers, eagles, key deer, if you kill one, your poaching.. and in my opinion should be shot... i believ that if you dont eat what you kill... you should be shot... deer are only a "problem" now becaus ethe population of the world is so many more time greater than it was back in the 1300's and 1400s and before... but as far as hunting... think of where you live... how many animals do you think were run off or maybe killed so that you have a place to sleep at night?

Well said. And I also applaud your conservative use of natural resources. If only more people did so, perhaps factory farming wouldn't be such a big problem. But I'm sure that ties in with the overpopulation, human greed, etc.

In all honesty, sometimes I wish I lived here and was Native American before Western Civilization took over. I'm fascinated by Native American culture, and admire (nearly) everything they've done. They took care of the earth, and let the earth take care of them. Talk about symbiosis.

But perhaps my view of Native Americans are to "Pocahontasized." Whichever the case is, I don't completely oppose hunting, but I don't agree with it either. To conclude, if it were for survival, and all of the animal was used, my vew would be completely different. Ah, the modern world.

Yeah its really sad how much people have changed... i'm not "full blooded" Native American, but i still try as much as possible to live like my family has through the ages... its these greedy redneck morons that give hunting a bad name... i actually lived on a reservation for years and i miss the way we lived, even though it wasnt the same, and native american views are now changing because of modern day society which is extremely sad...i REFUSE to eat anything that was raised to be killed (like viel and pork) i think its completely cruel and recently i have rescued 2 ducks from a "farm"... i felt so sorry for them, one still walks funny bc they were stuck in tiny cages unable of mobility and force fed.. i olny was able to save these 2 though.... You guys should help out with that also! After my airforce bootcamp is over (july 1st) i'm going to start a rescue for animals like that... i cant stand the pound and humane society because the ONly take care of dogs and cats... but thank you again... oh anyone who would like to help me with an animal rescue starting in july PM me and i'll write back thanks!

Fruitcake and earthkai:

Hopefully this generates discussion. ^^ I love a good discussion.

How do you feel about hunting for survival? If a hunter were to use every single part of the animal for their way of life, would you condone it then? Or do you dislike hunting in general and think it should never be allowed?
