"Interesting," Ruya noted. "I would have thought perhaps the clear physical differences and our lack of procreational gender would have led to some deviations from human behavior. Perhaps it has something to do with our living among them."

She was off in her own little world.

Feien
Geiseric silenced himself from pointing out that plenty of humans never procreated even though they had the capability. (Gunn was a good example.) He was more interested in hearing about Silva's so-called training.

Ice Queen
"Well, Soho's my little girl." Silva said after a brief moment of thought. "She's also a bit of a ditz, more likely to want to cuddle than to fight. Hell, only reason she's learning is because her friends are there. Marne kisses every person she meets on the lips. Too damn bubbly to attack people without cause... Gala wouldn't hurt a fly unless it was threatening someone she cared for, and Bruns..."

He hesitated on that one. "Bruns I'll have to keep an eye on." He admitted. "But I'm hoping he might be good for a spar. If he ever learns how to move faster than a turtle, that is."

Feien
"So you only train feien with little to no predilection for violence? What reason then do these feien have for seeking out combat training?" Geiseric settled back down on Gunn's shoulder as he spoke. Let Silva interpret what he may from the motion; it was merely habit on Geiseric's part.

Ice Queen
Silva almost choked on his toothpick as he went back to the reason for the training. "It's because Marne thinks Soho and she should get married." He said bluntly. "I'm not against girls with girls or anything, but Marne... well, she's a bit of a... moron as far as I can tell. But if she's going to be spending time with Soho, I'd rather have them together where I can keep an eye on them."

The stressed father look that crossed his face would have provided many a feien with blackmail material had they seen it. "Gala wants to impress her bond, who from all I can tell is a bit of a b***h, Bav's there because she can't beat me, and Bruns is there to flirt with Soho and Marne. Make sense?"

Feien
"No," said Geiseric, "it sounds like you're only 'training' them so you can assert your own superiority by monitoring their skills. The only feien on Gaia who seems to pose them any threat is you."

Ice Queen
"Already did that." Silva said with a shrug. "They asked for training themselves. Hell, it's really, Aleric, Nick and Nack that are actually doing the sparring part. Nick and Nack being a few animal boys that I raised."

He looked at du Pont. "Maybe you should come see the training yourself sometime. Make your conclusions then."

Feien
"Yes, I'd like that," said Geiseric, a bit of anger in his voice. He hardly considered that an answer to his accusation. Perhaps if he could talk to Silva again without Gunn he could get a straight answer.

Picking up on Geiseric's annoyance, Gunn warned, "Eric..." It would not be good for the other inquisitor to get distracted or start obsessing over something. "I don't suppose I could come and see, too? When the investigation is over." So much for Geiseric's straight answer.

Ice Queen
"Sure. The boys promised them a soccer game after Friday's training. We'll do it on the back porch." Silva said with a shrug. If du Pont wanted to think he threatened the kids, well, hell, who was Silva to stop him from it? He'd see soon enough at the training.

Neko Girl
Neko quietly opened the door ajar, gold eyes peering curiously inside of the 'new' headquarters. For once reason or another, she'd found it rather difficult to get this far; mostly being unsure of whether or not this was the right place, and partly because of the reason she was coming. Ares had mentioned the place had changed, but the demon hanyou never expected it to have changed this much. The place was more like some sort of office now instead of a shop, and everything seemed very organized. ...Perhaps that was for the better. But what happened to Em in order for all of this to happen in the first place?

Opening the door enough to fit through, she closed it gently behind herself after stepping inside, taking a better look around the room. This was an odd feeling... It just didn't feel right to her at all. So orderly... it was no wonder Tahki had gotten bored when she came here. Neko looked to Raylan for a moment, making sure the small feien hadn't dropped off her shoulder anywhere by accident. He insisted on coming along, even though she'd requested them all to stay behind and keep a close eye on the bloom in an attempt to keep Roswell away from it with the paints. Hopefully Merri's height would be intimidating enough...

Feien
Neko's arrival brought a swift end to the conversation, which was probably for the best since it was doubtful there was any more mileage to be had from the subject. "Can we help you?" Geiseric called to the woman, speaking on behalf of the whole group. (Never mind that Silva probably had no interest in helping.)

Ice Queen
Silva snorted, then glanced over at Ruya one last time, not knowing... or really wanting to say anything. But he grunted to them all. "See ya." And flew past Neko's head and down the stairs.

He figured he'd see them soon enough, and he needed to talk to Aleric about the offer to train Sunil. The sooner the better.

Neko Girl
Neko's ears perked up slightly at the sound of the voice, looking to the feien that spoke up.

"Oh, excuse me... I didn't mean to interrupt," she appologized, flicking her tail a little bit. "I haven't been here in a really long time, so I don't know if there's been a change of management or anything. Who would I talk to about my feien?"

Raylan, who was laying down on his stomach drapped over the demon's shoulder, finally picked himself up to sit upright, his wings drapped over his own shoulders similar to the fashion in which Ares normally carried hers. He'd never seen this feien before... Was that the one Ares spoke with the last time she was here?

Feien
"That depends on what the issue is," said Geiseric. "Medical? Criminal? Or social?" A strange choice of options.

Neko Girl
Neko raised a brow. Technically, it didn't fall under any of those choices.

"Bonds," she said simply, taking on a bit more serious tone. "I want to know if there's some way to rebond a feien."

Feien
Geiseric appraised Raylan. "Of course. Juveniles are surprisingly resilient. You would simply have to go live with a different bond."

Gunn took as much of a look at Neko as he dared, took in her twitching tail, and decided that he probably was best off sticking to the window. Or maybe even the wall. He looked over in that direction now.

Neko Girl
Neko pursed her lips for a moment, her ears drawing back against her red hair.

"It would be nice if it were that simple," she responded quietly, "but if they were juveniles, I wouldn't be so worried. I have three adults bonded to me... I need to bond them to others."

Feien
Geiseric gasped in astonishment. Three adults on one bond! It was mind-boggling. And if the juvenile with this woman were hers as well, that would mean she had a total of four bonded feien. To anyone from the Fleet it seemed an unbelievable number.

Gunn, too, was surprised, though not merely at the number. "Adult feien?"

"Adult feien bonds are permanent," said Geiseric, more than a little defensively. He could scarcely imagine his own bond, Adomital, wanting to get rid of him after so much time.

Neko Girl
"I know that," she said a bit sadly. It hurt to even think about the thought. Her feien meant everything to her, and she considered them to be of her own blood. "Don't get me wrong... I love all of my children dearly. However, their lives depend upon my own, correct? Without me, they will die... and Death has been knocking on my door recently. Eventually, I'll have no choice but to open it."

It had taken Raylan a moment to register what Neko was saying. That's why she wanted the others to bond to someone else? Because she was dying...?

"Please understand this isn't an easy request for me. I don't want them to die just because I have to... I want them to die because it's their time to go. So, if there is ANY way to allow them to live..."

Feien
Geiseric and Gunn would have exchanged glances had Gunn been capable of the simple task of looking someone else in the eyes. Since he was not, they settled for an exchange of shudders.

"I am sorry, I know of no such thing," said Geiseric, looking down at Gunn's shoulder.

This broke Ruya out of her self-imposed reverie. She was picturing herself in a little lab coat, holding a clipboard, and interviewing feien to find out how they thought. But then she realized that there were new people and she was being quite rude (not to mention odd) ignoring them.

"My understanding is," she said, the words percolating up in her brain, "that feien can be reverse aged and then re-bonded as blooms or juveniles. I was. Sunil was. Of course, I lost all my memories and I believe Sunil has some things in the distant past she either chooses or cannot remember. She isn't very honest about her weaknesses."

Neko was quiet for a moment, feeling a little embarressed that she didn't notice the little feien before. She listened, however, and furrowed her brow as she thought.

"Reverse... their age? So in a sense, I can turn back their physical states, but in exchange they'll lose their memories?" she asked, not sure if that was better or worse.

Raylan had been quiet up until now.

"You can't be serious..." he said, almost laughing. "You can't seriously be thinking about that!"

"But... if it's the only way..."

"You're willing to mess with their lives just so they can live a little longer?" This was... this wasn't right. "What about their friends...? Everything they cherish?"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 24, 2006 5:10 pm

"Well," Ruya said slowly, for this was something she had had a problem with, "It isn't like you know what you've lost. And Sunil remembers some stuff - so it must not be necessary to be amnesiac."

"Don't do it," said Geiseric sharply. "What you're talking about is time dilation and the only person who does that on living creatures is Dr. M, and he can't be trusted to return your feien alive." Geiseric's words were scathing, fueled by some acidic hatred.

"Eric!" said Gunn, twisting his head. As much as he understood where Geiseric was coming from -- Geiseric had been a juvenile at the time of the disaster -- Dr. M was still, despite everything, Gunn's friend. "The investigation--"

"Don't defend him to me," grumbled Geiseric, turning his head to the side so Gunn disappeared from his view.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 24, 2006 5:28 pm

"I can't claim to know much about this Dr. M, as I was a bloom when I was re-bonded - but certainly Sunil and I were both returned in working order. As far as I know, we were the only two feien submitted - thus giving this man a 100% success rate in this case." She shrugged. She didn't want to fight with Geiseric, who she respected to some extent, but those were the only facts she had.

Neko sighed lightly, understanding Raylan's frustration and noticing Geiseric's anger. Losing one's memories wasn't an easy thing to cope with; Neko knew this better than most, considering she lived a good 50,000 years before anything started coming back to her.

"Sir, it seems to me that you feel some form of hatred toward this... Dr. M," she said, turning her eyes toward the ground. "And Raylan, I understand why you'd be upset. Those three are literally the only friends you have, and that's my fault."

She clenched a fist tightly by her side.

"Well, then don't consi--"

"However, think about what they're all going through right now. Ares is the oldest among you. NONE of the people she knew are here any longer, save for Ruya, but her memories were lost. Everyone she grew up with is now gone, and no one has been able to find them so far. Tahki is okay meeting new feien, but Merri... the only other person he so much as respected and loved is supposedly dead. Everything they loved and cared for is gone and it's MY fault."

Raylan hadn't thought about it like that before. It was true... Ares' family was gone, as were her closest friends. Merri was extremely depressed about Globin, and there have been several occassions in which they all thought he might just kill himself. He and Tahki were the only two that had been okay through everything...

"I've already ******** up their lives beyond belief, so PLEASE!" Neko bowed down low, almost ready to get on her knees and beg. "Don't let me be the cause of their deaths, too. I will do anything to let them live... Any chance at all is greater than nothing."

"Then don't hand them over to Dr. M!" shouted Geiseric, so loudly that Gunn jumped, shaking the feien off.

With a look of utter shock, Gunn pointed towards the hallway. In a raised voice (not a shout, more of a low boom) Gunn said, "Lieutenant du Pont! Excuse yourself." Though his tone was merely commanding, the fact that Gunn used Geiseric's rank and not his title indicated some anger on Gunn's part.

Geiseric could not object to the order, both because it was from a superior officer and because he would never, ever counter Gunn. Without another word he flew off scowling.

Gunn's voice returned to a quiet level. His eyes sought the floor. "My apologies. You would really have to ask M about it, but from my understanding it's more than just having your memory changed. If you'll excuse me." Nervously, the towering man shuffled off after Geiseric, presumably to have some sort of a talk.

"I wouldn't mine accompanying you to speak to Dr. M," Ruya said. "No one I know is able to explain to me exactly what happened."

Neko took a deep breath, recollecting herself as she felt Raylan leave her shoulder. This really would be for the best, right?

Standing back upright, she looked to Ruya and smiled weakly.

"I would like that, thank you. Do you know where we can find him?"

Raylan, while still not liking the idea, felt he had no choice but to just go with it. Neko knew what was best for them, after all. Flitting over to the other small feien, he gave her a small smile.

"I'm sorry that we didn't introduce ourselves earlier," he said politely. "This is Neko, and my name is Raylan."

"Oh yes, sorry. I'm Ruya." Ruya sort of bobbed her head in greeting. "And I'm not certain how to find Dr. M. Perhaps we should pursue and ask Inspector Gunn?" She looked down the hall after the human.

Neko glanced in the direction the previous two had gone.

"I have a feeling we shouldn't disrupt them right now, actually," she said, knowing the situation all too well when she had to chase after one of the kids for a 'talk'. "Maybe there's... something around here we'll be able to find out for now."

"I suppose you're right," Ruya said. "We could see if any of the doors have name plates. Or knock and see if anyone answers. If they do, they might be the apparently infamous Dr. M." She smiled, trying to appear helpful, although today had been another day of realizing just how much easier it would be if everyone else's memories of her had been erased when hers of them were.

"Perhaps that's not a bad idea," Neko agreed, her tail curling up a little bit. "I find it a little odd, though... The desk here seems to be for a secretary, but there doesn't appear to be one."

"That would certainly make things easier," Raylan laughed a little bit. He thought about that for a moment, and then got a weird look on his face. "Well... maybe a little easier..."

Neko peered around the room for a moment, her eyes stopping upon the second door that she saw. 'Admiral Pavel Antipov, Director of Intelligence' was written in white letters on the glass.

"Admiral... I take it everyone must be some sort of military personel, then. Do you think someone might be in there?"

"Oh yes," Ruya nodded, lifting herself up in the air. "The Fleet appears to be a military organization. And the Director of Intelligence is probably an excellent person to ask about the whereabouts of other members of the Fleet. Assuming he is currently present."

She paused, thinking something over.

"Since it is a military organization, perhaps we could submit some sort of request to speak with Dr. M at a later date. Then we could be assured of his location at a given time. I don't know where one finds out whether that sort of request can be submitted or how, however."

Ruya flew over to the door which marked the office as belonging to Admiral Antipov and knocked twice, as sharply as someone so small could.
