I know that the safest thing to do when you have sex is use a condom, but, from learning about the menstral cycle I guess a woman can't get pregnant unless she's ovulating.
So is it safe not to use a condom (if my partner "pulls out") when im not ovulating??
How long after a woman gets her period does she ovulate??

I wouldn't recommend the "pull out" method. Even if you aren't ovulating, your partner may not pull out in time. Theres also STDs to take into consideration as well.
As to your question about when you ovulate: "Your ovulation days in a perfect world are 12 to 16 days after the first day of your menstral cycle begins (first day of bleeding) But we are not in a perfect world, and you can ovulate pretty much whenever." wink So its best to use a condom, just incase.

The best way to control when you're not ovulating is to take hormonal birth control. I am currently in a monogamous relationship with my fiance, and we usually do not use condoms because I take oral birth control pills every day at the exact time.

So far (for three years) it's worked fine. But I would not reccommend using the pull out method if you're not on birth control pills, because your body can always hormonally change, cyclewise, and you may be ovulating when you don't think you are, especially in the teen years because your hormones are in upheaval.

Use a condom every single time, or another form of birth control. Otherwise you risk getting pregnant. Be responsible and mature about it, like Oni-Angel's example, or don't have sex at all.

Yes a woman can only get pregnant when she's ovulating. However many teenagers aren't regular. And sperm can live in the body for up to 5 days. Not to mention that there's other variables that can cause a teenage girl's menstrual cycle to be thrown off. And of course, some girls menstruate (ovulate) twice a month, or release 2 eggs at one time sometimes.

So go talk to your doctor, and use a condom. To be more protected, talk to your parents and your doctor about going on birth control. It's not cool to take risks and screw around with both your health and your future.

Not all women release just one egg right at the right time. There are plenty of women who will release more than one egg over the course of a month, and this happens most frequently to teens and young women.

And, of course, as Niko said, sperm can live a long time in your body.

Use condoms. They are good for you. If your boyfriend gives you whiney speeches about it "not feeling as good," you can always ask him how good he thinks it will feel with a baby crying in the other room.

If you are willing to talk to your parents and go see a doctor (and have the money to pay for it), you can also get on the Pill. However, I would still recommend you continue to use condoms as well until you either completly trust your boyfriend (careful, a lot of girls give their trust too easily) or he gets tested for STDs.

And, of course, you should be going to see a gynocologist at least once a year after you become sexually active.
