Kayne glanced at his watch. 7:58. Sighing, he stretched his legs out and leaned back on the steps to the dojo. Seems that he would be the one being kept waiting. His day rolled around in his head. It had started out so ordinary until he walked through Sensei's door. He hoped that he hadn't caused too many problems between Ra and Chii. He hadn't meant to start an argument between them. Sighing again he threw his head back and stared up at the stars as they appeared one by one.

Jess was out of breath by the time she reached the dojo. After training and a light dinner she had been getting changed when Saki had called round to her room. She'd had some argument with her brother on the phone and had spent at least half an hour ranting about it. She was still raving as Jess forced her out of her apartment and towards her own room.
"Sorry I'm late." She cried between breaths. "I got stuck talking to someone." Rolling her eyes she unlocked the dojo and slid her shoes off. "Were you waiting long?" She asked flipping all the lights on and going about opening the sliding fire doors to let some air in.

Kayne leisurely pulled his eyes away from the stars to watch Jess run up as she cried out.
"Aren't you just the chatty one today," he smirked as he pulled himself up and slipped his shoes off. He hopped up after her and waited in the middle of dojo, watching her as she flitted around. Cocking his head to the side he took in this new appearance for her. Normally she was dressed much more conservative. Probably due to school dress code. But as she moved with ease and grace he knew she was no longer on the campus anymore, but at home and she was dressed to be comfortable. As she walked past him to open another door, he watched the way her muscles moved and the even way she breathed even after running full out across campus. This was going to be an interesting evening he decided.

"Yeah I know." She laughed jogging over to the lock up, her bare feet padding across the sprung wooden floor. "You students, think I have nothing better to do than sit and listen to your crap all day."
Opening the door to the lock up she made her way past the kendo gear to the very back and started to pull out one of the stiff plastic mats. "Can you give me a hand?" She called emerging from the large store cupboard dragging one of the mats behind her. "I think six should do the trick." She said yawning slightly as she dropped it onto the floor. "So did you have a productive afternoon?"

"Hey... that's what they pay you the big bucks for," he grinned and followed her to the store room. As she dragged one mat out he strode easily to the bad and grabbed two mats to drag out onto the floor. He dropped them next the one she had brought out and followed her back into the store room to grab the last ones.
"I wouldn't say productive really. Hopefully not destructive though," he said vaguely, grabbing two more mats and dragging them out.

Pulling the last one out Jess dragged it over and put it next to the ones Kayne had moved. "What did you do now?" She asked placing her hands on her hips and kicking the mats together. "I don't like the sound of that Shaidey I really don't."
She gave him a smirk and flopped down on the mats stretching her legs out in front of her and leaning forwards to touch her toes. "I'm staking my reputation on turning you around." She joked. "You'd better not be letting me down already." Turning her head to face him she frowned a little. "Stretch out how you would for running or soccer. All muscles possible."

Kayne plopped down in front of her so he could face her as he started to mimic her stretches.
"I swear I didn't mean to," he started, just to set the record straight. "I happened to run into Ra and his girlfriend at the festival down on the river. Turns out his girlfriend doesn't like me too much for bruising his face up. Then she got kinda mad when she found out that he and I had put it all behind us. It wasn't pretty. I've lived my whole life with a girl, and I still don't understand them sometimes," he finished with a small shake of his head.

Jess raised an eyebrow as she straightened up and began to stretch her arms and then her waist by turning to face behind her. "See. Always the quiet ones." She said turning to stretch the other way. "Hmm, tough one. Yeah i think I'd get pretty pissed too. It's a girl thing. we don't understand your manly need to assert yourselves through violence."
Jess stood and lunged one leg forwards to finish off the stretches on her legs. "You don't get us, we don't get you. It's best left at that. I'm sure she'll come round."
Finishing totally she stood up and clapped her hands together. "Right Shaidey, are you ready?"

Kayne snorted lightly at her assessment. "And yet, here we are and you're about to kick my a**," he smiled finishing up his own stretches by shaking out his arms a bit.
"I'm ready when you are Sensei. But be gentle. This is my first time," he smirked with a bit of a wink.

Jess gave a snort of laughter and shook her head. "You never stop do you Shaidey." She said walking up to him with a grin pulling at her lips. "I'll be gentle. Wouldn't want to make you cry after all." She said with a mock pout before walking to the other end of the mats.
This was a different kind of joking around, this was her mocking, psyching him up and herslef. At the other end of the mat she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. This was not the academy. Kayne didn't need taunting or provoking, it would only get him hurt. Opening her eyes she grinned and walked back towards him. "O.k Shaidey, I want you to punch me. Well, try and punch me." She smiled and moved to a position with her knees bent, her fists clenched ready near her sides. "Give me your best shot. I promise I'll play nice." She added with a wink.

"Why should I?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. He grinned at her taunt, enjoying the way she pushed her lower lip out when she pretended to pout. He watched her walk away and take a deep breath, her short shirt rising and falling with her shoulders
At her request, his eyebrow rose unbidden. He knew he wouldn't be able to get the punch past her, but he couldn't help but wonder what her next move would be. Dropping his arms, he took a boxing pose and a deep breath. Keeping his silver eyes glued to hers, he swung clean and swift straight towards her left shoulder.

Jess stood, her balance totally centered her weight spread equally between the balls of both feet. His boxing pose amused her, it wa a good tactic but not one that would help him. Boxing was about punches, kung fu was about everything.
To Jess the punch came in slow motion she stepped to the side, pulling him lightly off balance as he moved with the punch and pushing him forwards so she was stood where he had once been.
"Good." She said straightening up. "Now can you tell me where you went wrong?"

Kayne keeled over and caught himself as he fell heavily on the floor. He pushed himself over to face her.
"Asked you teach me how to spar," he grumbled lightly, rising to his feet, dusting off his hands. Taking a deep breath he thought about it for a moment, picturing it in his mind.
"Lost control," he said, thinking of how lightly she had touched him to cause him to fall to the floor. "Instead of holding myself back and keeping myself balanced, I threw my whole self into the one punch."

Jess nodded. "You need to keep all of your balance centred and keep the energy flowing. You remember like I told you when we pracitce tai chi."
O.k, now we're going to go through some basic moves I'm going to show you them in slow motion and then we're going to speed them up. I want you to remember about balance." She gave him a sideways grin. "Maybe if you're a good student I'll let you throw me later."

"Let me?" he repeated with a raised brow. It was on now. Even if today he only managed to throw her to the ground just because she let him, he knew that he would be out here with her everyday until he able to do it with out her charity. It would take time and patience. But thanks to her help, waiting was slowly not becoming such an issue like before.
Banishing those thoughts, he watched her closely as she went through the different movements and copied her as she moved. It wasn't as hard as he had expected it to be once each move was slowed down, and as she sped them up it was only a matter of finding her rhythm in order to move with her. He felt centered and calm as he pictured the moves and how each would be used to attack and defend.
