Name Origin: Because Kate was the first child, her father got so excited that he approached a fortune teller. The Chinese characters were chosen to match her birth date, with the number of strokes they have according to her birth date on the lunar calender.

Character:
Kate is a girl who hardly discloses her feelings, especially negative ones. She would only tell them to close friends, and she keep only a few. Therefore, most of her feelings are bottled up in her. She has a weak spot for people who beg on the streets, and old people, especially if they are selling things by the street. It makes her feel sad to see them working instead of enjoying retirement at home.
She is shy and awkward around strangers and people whom she is not familiar with, and find it hard to make friends. However, she likes to make jokes, normally cold ones. This will usually break the ice, and she will be easy to chat with as it becomes less awkward.
She has weird mood-swings, usually occurring at home. They don't happen often, occurring usually when she's really stressed. She can be crying about something random for one minute, before laughing it off a while later. She parents were quite worried, and had almost sent her to see a doctor, afraid that she might be suffering from depression.
Physical Descriptions
Figure: A little on the obese side, she is also short. A mere 153cm, thus almost all her friends tower over her. One of her favourite phrase is "Stinks to be short".
Hair: Black, and looks brown in sunlight. Quite messy, especially in the morning. Normally kept tied up in a ponytail in school because of school rules... At least it look a little neater that way. Her fringe is long, but she refuses to cut it. It covers her eyes, and is normally swept to the sides but of cause, it will fall back over her eyes most of the time.
Face: Black eyes, and a little almond shaped... Like cat's eyes only not so slitted. His nose's bridge is flat and most of the time, her spectacles will slid down her nose. Her face is rather round, not as if in very fat-round, but more of in youth, a little-plump round.

Because Border Collies have historically been selected for working ability, and not looks, they vary widely in appearance. In general, they are medium-sized dogs without extreme physical characteristics and a moderate amount of coat. Their double coats can be anywhere from slick to lush, and can come in many colors, although black and white is by far the most often seen at conformation shows and herding trials and therefore the most common in public perception. Tricolor (black/tan/white) and red and white also occurs regularly, with other colors such as, blue and white, red merle, blue merle, or sable seen less frequently. Eye color varies from deep brown to amber or blue with occasionally one eye of each color. The ears of the Border Collie are also highly variable -- some have fully erect ears, some fully dropped and other are semi-erect. Temperament:
Border Collies are extremely energetic and require a lot of attention. They are better off in a household that can provide them with plenty of exercise and a job to do. Like most herding breeds, they will attempt to herd family members, cats, squirrels, bicycles, cars, or anything else that moves in the absence of other charges. Border Collies make bad pets for people who cannot provide a considerable amount of daily exercise, both physical and mental. Participating in dog sports such as dog agility, flyball, sheepdog trials, dog sledding races and obedience are also popular with Border Collie owners. It may also help to have more than one dog. 5 / 15 ~ The History Kate was born into a traditional Chinese family on the sunny island of Singapore. Her parents doted on her, and so does her grandparents. Following the death of her beloved grandfather, when she was just 5, Kate fell into depression for a while. It scarred her for life, in the sense that her grandfather died of asthma from smoking, and contracting lung disease. From that day onwards, she hated the smell of cigarette smoke, and just wish that everyone would stop smoking.
However, life has to go on and after hitting the age of 7, was sent to a nearby neighbourhood Primary School. She stayed in that school all her life, and met some great friends who were to stay with her during her 6 years in Primary School. Her positive attitude helped her to make friends and avoid enemies. However, she prefers to have only a small group of close friends rather then have a large group of friends. She did good for her studies as well as in her activities - Brownies, or Girl Guides, and Ceramic Club.
However, all good things must come to an end. After the major examination - PSLE - most pupils in Primary 6 will most probably end up in different Secondary Schools. Kate received a score of 240 out of 300, and selected a school in another part of the city. Although not exactly far from her house, it requires 2 buses to reach. None of her close friends managed to get into that school except for her.
All this time, she had been living in a 4-room flat together with her family. Their location makes it easy for Kate and her brothers to attend school, and there is a market nearby to buy groceries from. Most of her friends live near that area as well, and it makes it easier to visit each other. With her change of schools, Kate's mother begun looking for a new apartment.
In Secondary School, Kate entered a class she can't get along with. Regardless of topics, character and interest, she felt very left out. Luckily, there were some pupils changing classes and after a little bit of persuasion from an old friend, Kate was transferred to another class. There, she became the class Secretary and enjoyed some fun and unforgettable times.
It was also during this time, when she was 13, that her mother found a new apartment. It was located very near her Secondary School, and her brothers transferred to a school near her new house. She held a Housewarming party and invited over a few friends, including the boy she had a crush on.
During her second year, she got into a class that she grew to like as well. Some of the friends who she had made in her first year happened to be in the same class, and she enjoyed herself. Of course, she made some new friends as well.
However, she contracted phenomia, a lung infection just before her Final Exams. She ended up missing 3 weeks of school and landed herself in hospital. On the first day of returning to school, it was her English Papers. Her results came out above average despite Kate's condition at that time.
It was during her third year in the school when she first faced immerse stress from her studies. With a new found addiction to her computer and games, her grades begun to drop and her parents started to worry. Kate had always been stable in her studies, and for the grades to drop so drastically was a shocking news to them.
With 9 subjects to handle, and an activity that is taking up most of her time, Kate became withdrawn into her computer and a sketchbook. She still lead a social life outside, but most of her time is now spent facing her computer and doodles.
How she got on the Island
Kate had always wanted to visit Japan. She found the culture fascinating, and besides, it was where anime had came from. She also wanted to see the sakura flowers with her own eyes. That was why when a contest held by some organisation with a grand prize of 'A one week trip to Japan as a school representative for an exchange program', attracted her to apply. The contest was held on the Internet, and Kate decided that the Internet should be reliable.
She knew the chances of her winning were slim, but she tried anyway. The contest was a short survey on the participant's health and status, followed by a weird essay on 'Your thoughts on Evolution and Science' and finally, five multiple choice questions loosely revolving around the topic of Animals.
It was 10 days later when the results came out. Kate's slim chance got her a trip to Japan. She was told via mail that she would arrive to Japan on a Monday and be placed in a Hotel near the school she would be doing an exchange program with. It also states that it would be best to bring along some clothing, including her school uniform, and some valuables such as money and travelling equipment. Things such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs and other little necessities will be provided for.
On the day of departure, Kate waved goodbye to her family and boarded a helicopter. Who knows that this would be a one-way trip.
Her family received a letter the same time Kate arrived on the Island. The letter stated that the helicopter had crashed into the ocean and both the pilot and Kate died in the accident. No bodies could be found, and the remains of the helicopter had sank to the bottom of the sea.
They were terribly sorry for the loss.

She had on her full school uniform, and her favourite sling bag. Her school uniform was tucked in, and she had pinned on her name-tag as well... It was because her principal was there. A Billabong cloth bag that was bought for her by her mother for Chinese New Year was slung over her shoulder. Her hair was tied up into a ponytail. She had her spectacles on.

Her school uniform had been pulled out, and was no longer tucked in. She had let down her hair, and it was not as messy as usual, perhaps because of the hair conditional that she used last night. Her name-tag is now in her Billabong bag, and so is her hairband. She is wearing her contact lens and her spectacles are in the spectacle box in her bag.

Billabong is Kate's favourite brand, and this was a gift from her mum during chinese New year. It is a light dirty grey in color, while the '73' is seagreen. The 'Billabong' in cursive writing on the '73' is white in color. The buckles are silver in color, and are shiny.

0% - Arrival On The Island
As she had just left Singapore for Japan in her school uniform, she'll most likely still have it on when she'd reached the island.
Thus, she'll have her school uniform tucked out totally, and her hair a little messy but untied. She will be wearing her contact lenses, and have her Billabong bag slung over her shoulder. Brownish Converse sneakers on her feet with ankle-length socks. She'll look happy to be in 'Japan'.
25% - First Changes
She will be wearing a girl-cut black t-shirt, and her favourite pair of puffy skirt. Her pair of silver spectacles on the bridge of her nose. Brownish Converse sneakers on her feet with ankle-length socks.
Her ears will turn pointed, and black fur will grow out in small patches on her lower body and on her thighs. Some white fur will grow from her neck and upper chest.
50% - Halfway There
Her dressing will be the same, but her spectacles will drop to the floor.
Her ears will resemble fully erect dog ears. Her face will extend out and become more of a 'snout' with a black nose at the tip. More white fur will grow on her chest area and on the back of her hands and on her feet. A short black tail will grow out of where her tail bone is.
75% - Almost Over
Her shirt is torn at the rim and the sleeves have been ripped off. Skirt is undamaged. She can see clearly without the aid of her spectacles now, and finds no need to wear any form of eye care.
More fur growing, and thickening, with a trend. White fur growing on her upper body, hands and feet while black fur is concentrated more on her ears and lower half of the body. The tail is longer and covered with thick black fur. The middle part of her face, which is the middle of the forehead and the whole snout, is covered in short white fur. The rest of her face is covered with white fur.
100% - Final Looks
As for clothes, I don't mind anymore so long as it looks a little ripped up.
She has to walk on her toes now that her feet resemble that of a canine. Instead of a face, she has a fur-covered snout and a maw instead of a mouth. Her snout and middle of her forehead will be covered in short white fur while the rest of her face is covered in short black fur. Semi-erect black Border Collie ears will grow above where her human ears used to be. Upper body will be covered with thick white fur while lower half is covered with black fur except for the feet which is covered in white fur.
Her tail is long enough to reach her knees, and is covered in long black fur with a white tip.

That's a mean thing to say! But it's true. I led an uneventful life, as Singapore is a fast paced world with no joy. Okay, there is joy, but studying is everything here. Without a diploma, you are nothing. You can't get a good job to support yourself, and the government will not help in any way. Why? Because who told you not to study?
Q: Fine, fine... But why would someone like Dr. Moreau want to go through the trouble to fake the death of an innocent, normal 15-year old? Just to get her on the island? I mean, that's not very convincing!
I know... ^^;;
Would it make sense if I said that Kate had lung infection during the end of her Secondary 2 year? Just before her end of the year Finals? She had complained of breathing difficulties when running her 2.4km run, and the many re-runs after that, but her parents didn't believe her. (They thought of it as a reason for Kate to get off PE.... Which is sort of true.) It contributed to why she said that it's impossible for her to pass. Maybe he wants to see if become a dog (Normally hyper and full of energy) would have any effect on a nearly asthmatic teenager.
Q: Okay... So summarize her character?
As a girl brough up in a almost traditional Chinese family, she's a little on the narrow minded street, and maybe a little old fashioned in her thinking. However, she seldom shows her kinder, happier side because she has a bad habit of looking solemn whenever she's alone. Whenever she's with friends, she would become a bright and cheerful girl.
She can be just a little psychotic. However, she's also... Crappy. Her jokes are normally lame and very cold, but if you get it, you'll laugh. She have some phrases among her closest friends that never fails to make them laugh, one of which being, "How's your llama today?"
In summary, she can be a nice and fun person to know, but a bad enemy to have. She hates childish behavior of extreme kinds, such as throwing paper balls, and can't tolerate it at all. However, she can be quite childish at times... Although she hates to admit it.
It depend on who she sees you as, and who you see her as.
Q: Say, if your character gets on the island, what's the first thing you would do with her?
One thing I've noticed about the island is the number of people who is one of the following. A smoker, drug-abuser, alcoholic, have had pre-material sex, anger management problems or/are not straight in their other half's gender preference.
Kate, being educated in a traditional Chinese family but born into a modern Western-Eastern country, is against everything on that list. She would start to 'educate' people on why smoking kills at least one person every day, how drugs will shorten your lifespan and kill you slowly, how drinking will weaken you and how pre-material sex will likely bring about AIDs and other STDs (Sexually-transmitted diseases) which will kill you eventually.
Not to mention how her parents told her being a gay, lesbian or both is morally wrong. She has nothing against them, but her up-bringing will cause some uproar to actually meet one.
Q: Does you have any talent?
The talent to sleep, if you count it.
No, she's just ordinary. However, she's a great observer and had acted as a PI to a few good friends, when dealing with other pupils in school. She's also good at interpreting people's feelings through their actions, tone of voice and expressions.
Some people might even be surprised at the way she consoles people. She uses a lot of reverse psychology, and it might even hurt the other party, especially if they're emotional or just weak.
Q: Why do you want an IoDM? Everyone seems to be questing for one.
Firstly, I love the roleplay that goes on. It's so different from the 'Baby to Adult' RPs that I've been doing all along. The different characters are so interesting and unique in their own way as well.
Secondly, the art is awesome!
