Chemistry

Welcome students. I am Kenjo Shimamura, your chemistry professor. I'm not one to abuse the power I have over you, but I do not take kindly to slackers. There are daily homework assignments, but don't worry, most of them will be the ten multiple choice questions at the end of each section. I may hand out worksheets from time to time, and the odd short-answer assignment but these are few and far between, because quite frankly, I don't like reading them. There is one quiz every week, during lab period, and a unit test every five weeks. The unit tests will be given instead of the quiz.

Tardiness is not tolerated, nor is abscence without a note from the campus infirmiry, seeing as you aren't allowed to leave campus. Should you need to miss the class for some reason other than sickness, such as a special meeting or something of that nature, you are to notify me at least three days before the class to be missed. If the event is short-notice, you are to let me know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and have a signed note from the event's overseer. We all know the consequences for missing a class, ne?

Kenjo propped his feet on the big desk at the front of the room. Another day. Another hour of trying to get something to sink into these kids' skulls. He sighed. It was a living after all.

As he heard the clock strike one, he picked up the roster for the one o'clock class. His migraine from the day before still hadn't abated, despite the heavy medications he'd taken. He began to wonder if there might be something else going on. Shaking his head, he looked up at the gathering of students.

"Well class, let's see who gets a shocking today..."

Hallway-->

Kenji knew he was late. He heard the one o'clock bell ring when he was just turning the corner of the hallway in which the chemistry room was located, and ran the rest of the way to the door. Here he paused for a second, both to catch his breath and prepare himself for the shock he was probably about to receive for being late to class.

Finally he opened the door and stepped inside, bowing respectfully. "Sorry I'm late." He looked out of the corner of his eye at the rest of the classroom, trying to see if he was the only one not there, but otherwise didn't move.

Kenjo looked up as the boy walked in the door. He rubbed his temples wearily. He didn't really like shocking the students. He really didn't. But there were a few things he just simply didn't allow. He pulled the little remote from his pocket. The setting wasn't very high, he never used more than was necessary.

"Murabayashi-san....I don't have many rules. I don't shock the students for no reason. But tardiness is one of the few things I do not ignore in this classroom."

He put in the code to activate Kenji's collar, but didn't hit the 'activate' button just yet.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't hit this button." he said. It was not a threat, not a scolding. If Kenji had a good reason for being late, he wouldn't get shocked. Simple as that.

"What?" Kenji looked up, rather surprised and a bit confused by this. One good reason not to get zapped? He didn't have one. (Well, actually he could think of several reasons; however, none of them would be considered 'good' by teachers' standards.) He supposed he could make something up, but he had never really liked being dishonest. He always felt people could see right through him-- and it was probably true.

He shook his head, deciding to go with what really happened. "I... just lost track of time. I started going to class later than I should've. It won't happen again."

Kenjo sighed again, and pressed the button. It was a mild jolt, compared to what other teachers might have given, but it was still enough to hurt.

"I'm sorry, Murabayashi-san, but let that be a lesson to you. No one is to be late for my class."

He looked back down to his roster, and then looked out over the class. He counted the students sitting there.

"Seems like we have a few others who thought it was a good idea to cut my class...." he said. He ran a finger down the list, stopping next to the codes for the delinquents. He punched in the codes and turned up the power a bit. Cutting class was a severe offence.

Kenji jumped, one hand going reflexively to his collar at the shock. It wasn't as bad a jolt as he'd been expecting, which he was grateful for. He managed to keep from shouting or crying out, and merely flinched, nodded painfully, and finally went to his desk.

He sat down and put his book in front of him, looking around the room and rubbing a spot above his collar in an attempt to stop its stinging. There were a few other empty desks, he noticed, but he didn't know this class well enough to be able to tell whose they were. Kenji honestly couldn't think of any reason anyone would try to skip classes at Midori, what with the collars and electrocutions and all.

====> Cafeteria

Renji did not stop to talk, nor did he focu on the contact he had with Jezz. Dammit, how could time have gotten away from him so fast? He released his grip on the girl's wrist as they reached the door to the classroom. What to do, what to do? Play it cool or go in all apologetic. Well, apologetic wasn't his style. He pulled open the door and sat down at his seat as if he arrived five minutes early. Folding his hands on the desk he smiled sweetly at Kenjo.

==>Caf

Jezz walked in after Renji and watched him sit down looking like a puppy. Her eyebrow raised slightly then her eyes sized up the teacher.

"So what you the hotshot who thought it'd be fun to get a kick outta shocking the new kid?"

She pursed her lips together as her hands sat on her hips and her body weight slightly more on her left foot.

"Or do you just think kids are perfect conducters for science experiments?"

Kenjo nodded as Kenji sat down.

A moment later, Renji walked in the door, as serene as if nothing had happened. He couldn't help but smirk at the boy. Renji was irrepressable.

"Well now, Motoki-san, were you trying to--"

He was cut short as a second student came storming up to his desk in a fine fit of rage. He raised a brow at her, and leaned back in his chair, propping his feet up on the desk.

"Well now, what have we here?" he said, tossing the remote lightly in his hand.

Jezz glared at the teacher as he sat back putting his boots on the desk like he was the almighty chicken. She got even more perturbed when he tossed the remote in the air as a cocky threat. Narrowing her eyes more she shot her hand out and grabbed the remote in mid air and planted both hands on the desk glaring at him.

"You may think your the best thing since sliced bread, I don't care, but get this straight Mr. Highandmighty, next time you go around with your jumpy trigger finger know who your shocking first. The names Jezz, you will learn it not by choice, probably because of the stuff I do, you have no reason to find that as a threat, you probably get the ten times a day, But listen up bub, I don't care if you shock me a thousand times or if you even cut off my foot, before you want to teach us, try not to shock the newbies and make yourself look like a complete jackass infront of the student body"

Jezz heard a few snickers behind her and ignored them "Now what are we up to teach?" she asked tossing the remote back to him "Reaction Kinetics, Solubility Equilibria, or Oxidation - Reduction?" she asked naming off a few senior level sciences. No one knew but she was actually at college level in her chem knowledge. "And try not to shock me again and we will get along just fine" she winked and turned around heading to an open seat and sat down

Kenji just stared at the girl who had just walked in and started ranting at the teacher, watching her almost in awe. Who did she think she was? And-- more importantly-- just what did she think she was going to accomplish? The guy with her didn't seem as bad. At least he hadn't accused the teacher of anything.

Some ego, Kenji thought, shaking his head and opening his textbook to a random page (mostly just to look like he was doing something). Again, he didn't see the point in defying Midori's rules or teachers. There was just no way out of the punishment. This girl-- Jezz or whatever she said her name was-- must have some nerve to think she could get away with it.

Renji held his breath as he awaited the teachers reaction. Another shock was not outside the realm of possibilty, but damned if he'd look scared about it.

His head whipped over at Jezz as she started here bellowing, and he cringed. Oi, Jezzabella, shut up! he thought, closing his eyes. Did she have to challenge everyone and everything. Why was she always fighting.? He started as he realized that sounded like a lot of things Cyndir had said about Renji in the past. He frowned, looking at Jezz in a new light.

As the girl took her seat, Kenjo tucked the remote back in his pocket, and chuckled. He got up, and walked around the front of his desk.

"Well, seems we have us a regular school-girl, ladies and gents." he said, leaning against the edge of the desk. "Glad to see you studied well before you came to us, Miss Juanaros. Must have been quite the student. That must how such an upstanding citizen such as yourself come to be a member of a prestigious school like our dear Midori Kaizen."

There was another round of snickers as Kenjo stood up and bowed with a flourish to the seated Jezz. "I apologize for making a 'jackass' of myself. It shan't happen again, your majesty." he said, a broad grin on his face as he straightened up and looked out over the class.

"Tell me, can any of you recall your first day of classes at Midori? How many of you made it through the day without getting shocked? None? Didn't think so." He turned back to Jezz. "Midori makes no exceptions, Jaunaros-san. New or not, you are treated exactly like any other student. I am not a difficult man to get along with. There are only a few things I do not tolerate. Tardiness and absence happen to be two of them. Now, everyone please take out the multiple choice questions from last class."

Jezz rolled her eyes at him
"Well then this school needs a good kick in the a**" she grumbled at him.
She glanced next to her and saw Renji, he was probably yelling at her in his mind, and what luck the desk she sat in was right next to his...or maybe she had subconciously chose it? Naw it was just coincidence.

"Well seeing as I wasn't here last class I am sure that you have the papers for me? And maybe instead of making me late all the time the school could issue some watches with alarms on them. It would really come in handy to let your students know the time when they try to figure stuff out from broken and vandalized clocks" she smiled sweetly at him batting her eyelashes knowing it was a condescending move but she didn't care
