Appearance: The first noticeable thing about Sophie is that she isn’t all that noticeable if she chooses not to be. A bit on the tall side at 5’ 8’’, any womanly curvature she has is hidden under loose clothing, usually two layers of it. Her hair is springy, and curls in ringlets down past her chin but before her shoulders in a short cut, framing a cutesy, dollish face. Soft blue eyes look out at the world underneath barely visible lashes, and although her lips are not voluptuously full, her smile still has a feminine touch to it. Usually, her movements are clumsy and silly, and she often trips on things that most people wouldn’t even notice. She looks as if she could be just about anyone: the girl next door, the bank teller, or even just another passerby. The only thing out of place with her goody-two-shoes look is a small black Aquarius tattoo imprinted on her left shoulder, usually hidden from view.
One notable thing about her clothing style is her love of socks. Sophie collects all kinds of socks: fuzzy ones, padded ones, ones with the toes separated…whether or not you can actually seem them, it’s pretty much guaranteed that she’s wearing a pair of funky socks. She’s also a fan of comfortable clothing: in her opinion, if she can’t sleep in it, then she has no business wearing it. This often is the case, as at times she falls asleep randomly.
Personality: At first glance, Sophie is shy and reclusive, often seen alone reading, writing, or simply staring off into space with a pensive look on her face. She’s not the type to make introductions without reason: usually, you have to bump into her or start up a conversation on your own to get her going. That’s all it takes for her to come out of her shell, though: once a person gets to know her, Sophie is a high energy ball of fun with a bit of a random streak and a witty tongue that slips just enough times to get her in and out of trouble. It’s easy to tell that she’s got some form of a brain, but she hides it under what’s left of her naivety, and people often find her a bit ditzy from first impressions. However, the image of her under the surface is a much darker one, and not often seen except to her closest friends.
At her best, Sophie is a sweet, caring optimist with a fiery passion for just about anything she puts her heart into. At her worst, however, she is cynical, sarcastic, and overly critical of others, and even more so herself. Her sense of perfectionism was beaten into her at a young age, and at times, she hates herself for what she is or isn’t. She also tends to have issues of jealousy, and can’t usually get close to someone because she’s afraid of them learning who ‘she really is’. She’s mostly afraid that her negative aspects make up who she really is, and that she’s just hiding behind who she wants to be.
In regards to her narcolepsy, Sophie tries her best to act like it doesn't effect her, or even exist.
Story: Sophie doesn't remember much of her time in her home country of Australia: she was confiscated by her parents at a very young age for charges of negligence and unsuitable living conditions. As a girl of 4, she was adopted by an upper-middle class family living in the coastal city of Monterey, California.
As the middle-aged couple no longer had any of their children living with them, they'd started a habit of adopting the poor unfortunate souls left behind by their true parents and raising them to be good citizens. It was these two people that Sophie came to know as parents, as well as a varied group of sibling from different nations. From the oldest Korean girl Ju Yeong to the later-added baby brother Corey, Sophie grew up in a hectic household that prided itself on togetherness, kindness, and the corny good-old-fashioned American way.
When Sophie entered kindergarden, she was also enrolled in a child's dance class, and truly started to excel in the art. For a while, it seemed possible for her to have potential in the area, but by her teens, it was apparent that she was growing too big to be a delicate ballerina. So, at the age of thirteen, she gave it up entirely, and instead joined the drama troupe at her middle school. She stayed in drama for the rest of her schooling, and by high school, interacted within her own little thespian clique of students who wanted to make it big in L.A. So, it's no surprise that a year after she graduated, she simply packed up and moved there, driven by dreams of grandeur.
What she hadn't anticipated was all the partying her friends intended to do while in L.A. instead of pursuing the dream, so for about a year and a half, nothing was accomplished. Sophie found herself slipping into a world of late nights and little clothing, but she hadn't had it until one morning she woke up with a hangover and a tattoo.
After that, she got her life in gear: even without a college diploma, she still got a job as a clerk for a local bookstore, and started saving up to pay off her increasing debt and ultimately go to college. When she found that the others in the group were unwilling to pull their weight, Sophie decided that it was time to leave, and packed her bags. However, an invite to a Christmas party delayed her departure, and she decided one last night wouldn't be so bad.
At the party, however, someone thought it would be fun to slip some Feral Labs alertness pills in the punch she was drinking, to offset any alcohol and/or her narcolepsy. However, it didn't exactly cause her to be more aware: it just caused her to start to change...
