Vampire Pride Idea:
Name: Mwana-a'Lela (Children of Night)
Pridal Nickname: The Coven
Ruling God/ess(s): Kiuaji-A'Uzuri (Deadly thing of Beauty) Godess of Blood
Basic Background/Plot:
Many moon's ago after the 'Greater God's' had been given their names of higher power.
A lesser Godess, the Godess of Blood grew incredibly jealous of the youngest of the 'Greatest' for creating her own pride.
Now this Godess was indeed beautiful, but was deadly, as true as her name.
Her elder brother's, the God of Flesh and the God of Pain, saw their younger sister's anger and offered to appease her.
So the God of Flesh took a lion cub from the land, who was the future King of a neighbouring pride and made him drink a drop blood of his young sister, so that the three God's could both bless and curse this first child of the Blood Godess.
The eldest God, the God of Flesh blessed him first.
"First son of Blood, this blessing I give to you. For your flesh will be the most beautiful in the world, as will your children and your children's children. So that other's will follow and adore you until you pass into the realm of shadows."
The next God, the God of Pain, blessed him next.
"Hear this, First son of Blood, for this shall be your blessing. You shall feel the pain of my realm, but it will burden you less then your feline brethren, for you are the first and your threshold will ensure that once you fight, no pain will be great enough to take hold of you however you shall feel pain in the light of the sun, for we are God's of darkness and you are a child of one, so you will never be able to step into sunlight until you pass into our shadows!"
Finally, the Godess stepped forward on her first follower.
"Take comfort in my voice, First son of Blood, for I am your mother and ruler. You will be blessed with my fangs and my heart, as will the ones you shall turn to the clan likewise. You shall drink of their life fluid, but you cannot live on it...however you cannot live without it. Thus is your blessings, First son of Blood. So go and take your name I bequeathe to you, the name of Drakul."
And so young Drakul grew, nurtured by his mortal mother, taught by his immortal one and once of age, grew a lust for the life's fluid.
In one night he slayed the young children of his mortal father's pride, drinking of their blood and taking a part of their souls into him.
His pride was an ancient one, in modern times now long time dead apart from his reign.
That gave him an ego to boost with his new gift's that the God's had given to him.
He grew handsome and taught, young female's of the pride taking in his flesh and following and adoring him like the Flesh God had said.
He drank of their blood and made them part of his harem.
And only when his father passed to the realm of shadow's did he take control of the pride and cast aside his mortal name.
He called his new pride, The Coven.
The Coven grew in strength and number, living on the blood and flesh of the wildabeast and only 'changing' those they felt worthy of their God's and Godess's gift's.
For that is the way they live and that is the way they always have.

Ceremonies:
Weddings//: It is usualy the young prince's and princesses that ever get married (any other of the pride's children are allowed to be of non-married couples).
They are usualy betrothed at birth to a rogue female or male cub that none of the coven shall bite, for that is an honour only the intended lion/ess's future husband/wife is allowed to give upon them.
And afterwards both shall drink of each others blood, thus binding each other in heart, soul and blood.
Some of the pride member's are allowed to marry aswell, like the Necrostat and the Head Hunter/ess.
The ceremony is held at night and is seen over by the shaman/ancient female of the coven.
Funerals//: These are very sad times, every part of the coven is cherished and praised. So when one dies, the coven will often mourn for several days straight.
The shaman/ancient female will be in charge of the Ceremony, as she asks each member of the coven to place a few drops of blood onto the body and a flower next to it.
This will often be held under a tree or near a river before the body is left and shall not be ever looked upon again.
However, as a symbol of respect, they will smear black mud or even blood on their faces or fur as a mark that one of their family has died.
For that is the way of the pride.
Cub Presentations//: Like in the noble Prideland's, cub presentation's are very important.
Especially if it is for the new heir.
Their forhead is smothered in blood that has been bleeded from the recent King or Queen or the cubs parents, by the Shaman/Ancient Female and is then placed on his/her back before parading the cub infront of the other's so that all the coven may see the newest member of their family.
If any cub is still born funeral rights go the same, for any loss is a loss.
Adulthood Initiation/First Hunt Ceremony:
An important time for blossoming young adolescents that have just become the age where they are both sexually active and able to hunt with the pride.
Young male's and female's are often blessed by the Shaman/Ancient Female right after sunset by placing the blood of a kill made by the young adolescent's mother or father to wish them luck on their first hunt.
If the lion/ess has been succesful on their first hunt, they are said to be allowed a blessing from the Godess herself.
If they fail, they are given one scratch for every failed hunt, as are all of the pride.
But in cases of EXTREME severity, hunter/esses that do not and have not ever caught a kill (which is rare because most of the pride are extremely well trained and efficient hunters), they will sadly be banished and treated like he/she has died or passed away.
The Ceremony of the Blood Sun:
The Ceremony of the Blood Sun is a special one day even that happens every year and very rarely, twice when all the members of the pride are allowed to step into the sunlight without fear of being hurt.
As preperation, the shaman/wise female will gather all the pride together and paint their pelts and faces with white clay, as further protection from the sun.
They will sleep with the clay on their bodies and in the morning they take the pelts of all their victims and prey, that has been smothered in special herbs by the shaman/wise female and place it on their own forms, they believe in doing this they borrow the strength of their prey who could face the sun without fear.
For the rest of the day they will hunt in broad daylight before returning home and feast in the light of the sunset's red glow.
This is where the Ceremony gets it's name.
It is exceptionally good luck for lions to be married/mated on this day or for a female to give birth to a litter of cubs.
As they believe the cub will be resilliant to the sunlight and be an asset to the hunters or warriors when they're older.
FUN FACT: In this Pride, Adolescent pregnancy is not only not looked down upon, it is encouraged by parents for their son's and daughter's to find a mate as soon as they can.
Especially if they are born with 'blessed' pelts or markings to pass on their beauty and increase the pride's numbers.

Land Description:
The Mwana-a'Lela live in the deepest part of the Jungle, where the sunlight never reaches and is abundant in small animals and water.
It is a place where they hide easily with their dark pelt's.
They have dubbed their land's 'The Death's Cradle', for it a wonderful place to rear their cub's and is keeping with their Mother Godesses warning's to stay away from light.
However when the the sun rises or sets, it always gives an eery blood red glow to the surrounding plants.
The pride believes it is the mother Godess shielding them from the rays of the setting and rising sun and in doing so making the jungle shine the same colour as her coat.

The Lions:
The body of a Coven member is the same as a normal lion, but their is something so strange and beautiful about them.
If any, the only edit to a rogue would be a pair of prominant canine fangs and a suggestive twinkle in their eye.
If you catch my drift. wink
The Males:
Protectors, leaders, fathers and lovers.
The males are the more dominant of the pride, much more strong and charming in a gentlemanly way.
Their aura spurts charm and dignity wherever they may wander.
And they are great lovers.
However, beneathe their handsome exterior, is a wild, passionate night time killer.
Not afraid to hunt his own meal and not afraid to kill anyone that goes against him.
They are VERY protective fathers and mates and will defend their family to the death if need be, however that usualy isn't the case for nobody dares to challenge them and the males are much stronger then your average lion.
The Females:
Temptresses, hunters, passion seekers, loving mothers.
As in the film Dracula, these females are the temptresses of the night and use that often in scouting for more males for the group if they should ever be dwindling in number's.
They use their seductive ways on cubs aswell, like a mothering way, but they shall NEVER harm any cub.
Despite their lustful and flirtatious manners, they are passionate hunters and take great joy in making their families happy.
They adore their children and are thrilled when one is chosen as heir (if the King has none) or a Necroling.
But like the males, are equally as dangerous if not more so.

Beliefs:
~ The lions believe in their three God's, but favour the blood godess highest of all.
And anyone that say's anything against her is on their immediate death list.
Cub's are taught at a young age by the Shaman/Ancient Female about the Godess and the belief's of their tribe.
~ Any cub born with black or red fur, or has the sign of blood droplets under their eye's or the sign of 'The Claw of Death' (Scythe).
Is a sign that he/she has been blessed by the God's of the coven and is instantly given to inspection from the shaman/ancient female for it's health before being trained to be a future Necros or Necras.
~ Lions of other colours (gold, blue-gray etc) are allowed into the pride, however their pelt colours are often frowned upon because they do not represent the Godess.
So mostly, rogues of grays, blacks, reds and whites are let in more often.

Jewelry:
You've heard the phrase, 'skin and bone's' well, to the Coven, it is not a cry of hunger, it is a cry of fashion.
The pride take no greater pride then wearing the skin or bones of their first kills and flaunting them like this years trend.
Even cubs are sometimes given to wear skulls of animals as protection or to show their mother's pride in their strength.
And yes, the royal family have been seen wearing their kills, however, they are a tad more showy then the other's.
However the Shaman/Ancient Female has the most sacred of all jewelry.
A skull from that of the Godess herself after she died and reincarnated, only to bestow it onto the first Shaman/Ancient Female of the pride.
It is adorned with other bones and feathers and fur, as is custom to keep the look of the wisest of the pride also look the fiercest to the cub's.
Because the pride believes it will make the younger generation listen more carefully.

Allowing Other Species Into the Pride:
This is very rare for most lion prides.
However, the Coven decided long ago, that everyone should know the power and curse they held was not limited to their species.
So other creatures of other species where allowed to enter, as long as they knew the rules of the pride and obeyed them.
And as long as they did as they where told.
They where not treated as slaves, but they where treated a little lower down on the social structure.
However, if ever one is sick or hurt or unable to defend themselves, they are still treated as one of the pride and looks after.
