Business was slow lately Maryke thought as she took another sip of her drink. She was still jet lagged from the direct flight from LA to New York City she had just taken, but weary bones and one hell of a headache wasn't going to stop her from working. What could she say? She loved her job and money wasn't exactly something she was willing to part with. There was only one problem.

The little debutantes back home weren't bringing in the bacon as much as she would have liked them too. From a economical stand point Maryke's panderings fell short this quarter and she was for damn sure not going to let that happen again. She knew was she needed. She needed fresh blood, some new life for those pathetic johns to get their ya yas off on. It was all part of the bigger scheme of things. Find a new product to push out there and you were gold. But she wasn't here for that. She was here to personally deliever a girl to one of her clients. And hey, if she found someone to add to her collection of fine and ready to be had women, then so be it.

Her brown eyes moved towards the stage once more as she took another sip of her drink. Occasionally looking around for her client to meet up and only watching the 'show' with vague interest.

Another day gone by at school, another night spent at the club. Why did Alexa get the feeling this monotonous life was soon going to wear itself out on her. Yes, she loved what she did, but it was always the same club; she was always the main attraction. There was a thing to be said for being a 'free agent' in the field, seeing as it was pure profit going into that tiny lace strap. However, she needed something new... fresh. Maybe college would offer her another chance. But, as for now, she had to don her stage name and get out there as usual. And once she was out there, she was completely changed. It was all a game to her; an act and she was the one controlling the strings. She knew once she was there on stage, pulling whatever erotic move and losing a slip of clothing, all eyes were on her. That's what she wanted, right? All eyes on her? To be the star? Well, it felt damn good, that was for sure. Her eyes scanned the crowd as she performed the same old, same old. Soon she'd add more spice, but now she just was in a creative slump. Hmmmm, new girl out there, she thought to herself.

Could mean good luck tonight.

Maryke leaned back in her seat as the lights dimmed even more behind her and an even louder song began to play. When the strobes began to come in at full force she knew exactly what this meant. The main attraction was coming up. She felt a tinge of something near her heart when she reflected on this, thinking back to her older sister. Her now dead sister. The gunshots to the back of the head.....yet, she had been stupid enough to think she could play this kind of game. Maryke sneered at the thought of it all. No one was ever going to win at this one, no chance in all. Deep down inside she could even sense her own foreboding, but quickly passed it off.

Instead she looked up towards the stage with an analytical eye. Barely noticing as her long awaited client sat down next to her and also watching the girl. It was just business, the madam reminded herself as she had trouble looking away from the stage.

Once her little 'show' was over, she stepped back into the darkness, taking a moment to catch her breath. Generally, she wasn't so worn out but something about tonight had made it all the more thrilling. Strange. She went back to her bag of things, stuffing the money away. She didn't really feel like being social, and so she changed back into street clothes, preparing to brave the crowd. She wondered about that new girl she'd seen. She wondered if she had noticed her on stage or not. Even though the blaring announcements of the main attraction were impossible to miss, some people sometimes did. However, she was still curious about her.

She actually decided to make her way through the outskirts of the crowd toward the exit, watching her as she navigated through the crowd of men and women alike, all hungry for a little something and reeking of beer. She gave this mysterious woman a wide berth, then slipped out the door, taking a seat on the steps and sighing. She often sat here, just off to one side and in the shadows, reflecting on her life in general. She was always alone here... no one recognized her in the dark and in her clothes. She liked being a nobody after a performance. It refreshed her.

Maryke nodded her head to the large bellied man as he talked in a long new york accent. What he wanted, she most definitely could provide and that's what she came up to the this godforsaken cess pool for. To provide. She sighed boredly as the girl on stage finished her dancing and then shifted in her seat a little, withdrawing her briefcase. All business, no matter what the product was.

"Kara Lee, will be at your hotel room at 11 o' clock sharp. She will leave at 4 in the morning. Is that understood?" She asked, using the sharpest tones to make it none she was no fool. That the strings were held by her. When he nodded, she grinned and nodded back. "Good, I'll be seeing you again soon Mayor."

With that she bristled and stood up, her brown eyes the girl moving through the crowd and watching her a few beats before leaving. Wondering if it meant something Maryke quickly followed her out the door.

Maryke grinned as she continued to step out of the door and down the steps, "You tell me..." She took the remaining steps and then sat down next to the girl, still wearing a casual yet sickeningly sweet smile. "I watched you dancing back there, quite the performer. Have you been doing this long?"

Her questions were direct and to the point. There was no need to play it simple. This girl was no threat to the older madam, and by the wad of cash rattling in her briefcase that doubled as her purse, she also knew she could level with the girl.

She could see by the sickeningly sweet, faked smile she was dealing with someone important. She thought for a moment or two, then answered the question. "I started halfway through my sophomore year... so I guess about two years." An honest, cut to the chase answer for her. She turned slightly, giving the older woman the once-over. Gorgeous, older than her by several years. Must be someone in the business. But what would she want from Alexa? She really wasn't anything special... per say....

Or... was she?

Maryke nodded, taking in all the information. Two years? This girl reminded her so much of her sister. Two years wasn't enough to claw your way up to the main stage. Three maybe, but even that was cutting it quickly. Out here everything was done in seconds. If the girl didn't have what it took then she was out. Survival of the fitness was more then a cheesy catch phrase. It was truth. if a girl could withstand the abuse and dehumanization, and make it past that three mark then maybe just maybe she could be rolling in the bigger dough.

"How much do you make here?" she asked, quickly, already knowing that it was no where near how much she could offer.
