Top wo Nerae 2!

I'm off work today so I just watched the first episode of Top wo Nerae 2! or Gunbuster 2 as most people call it. All I can say is: Hey! You got FLCL in my Gunbuster! Er, wait. You got Gunbuster in my FLCL! Or something like that. confused

It's really weird. It isn't like the first Gunbuster at all. I'm not sure I like it, but I suppose I could just dissregard the fact that it's supposed to be a sequel to the original Gunbuster and I may enjoy it. It's just that the end of the first episode is kind of a "huh? wtf?" moment and doesn't seem to make sense. rolleyes

I had problems getting into the first Gunbuster, and I have more problems getting into this one - no matter how many boobs they throw at me. XP Granted the premise is decent, but I had problems with the execution. *shrug* But hey, if you dig it that's cool. At least somebody does. :3

A good mecha in my eyes is Giant Robo by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. Very underappreciated yet very kickass.

At least the first Gunbuster had an Elvis clone for a trainer. And something about the character and costume design of the new series just doesn't make it for me.

All I remember of the first Gunbuster is watching it at the local comics shop, where everyone watching simply went 'WHAT THE FUUUUUCK' and/or 'LOOK BOOBIES LOL'.

That's so true. The main character, Noriko, is always crying because everyone else is accusing her of being selected through nepotism because of her father, but then as far as I could tell she didn't have the aptitude to be a pilot anyways. So the morol of the story is that favoritism is okay even if you are selecting a pilot to save humanity.
